  • I really am amazed 44 years playing guitar.. wow really brings me up to keep on playing haha i've barely taken 2 years or so of guitar classes.. hope to play like you someday :D

  • @evonai You may be a better player than me a lot faster than I have been. I am not extremely talented like some are. Talent determines the amount of work it takes to get to a certian level. Highly Talented people can get to where I am in just a few years and not 40 or 44 years like me. It has taken a lot of long hard work for me but it has really been fun also. Maybe you will be one who passes me next year. Keep up the good work.

  • I love the designs of the Ovations and the body seems just perfect but I gotta ask... How does it sound unplugged? I don't have an Acoustic Amp and was wondering if I could play it without the Amp (And have it sound good)?

    Thank you, :)

  • Amazingly enough they sound great. The best sounding guitar I ever heard, including Martin, Taylor, Collings and all, was a guitar made by Ovation. Ovations can have a huge acoustic sound. I am a Martin Freak. I love them, and they sound awesome, but just because Ovation is different doesn't mean they can't be great also. Solid Top Well made Ovations have a great acoustic Sound.

  • im buying an ovation applause series AE148 super shallow cutaway acoustic electric and looks just like yours but it is black, i like both(yours and the black) in your opinion which is best?

    thanks

  • The Applause guitars are great guitars for the money and lots of people love them. I sell a lot of them. However, in my opinion a solid top guitar, not laminated, (plywood) always ages better and sounds better when it comes to wood top guitars and the appluase guitars to my knowledge do not have solid tops. That doesn't make them bad guitars and lots of people earn a living with an applause, but my preference is a solid top Ovation.

  • I think Ovation needs to make a 12 string guitar. just a thought, considering 12 strings sounds twice as good and and combining that with the ovation would be magic.

  • Ovation has made 12 string guitars for over 40 years now. They are great 12 string guitars. They made one of the first 12 string guitars that was relatively easy to play and has a great sound. We have the Ovation 12 strings today at OklahomaVintageGuitarcom at several price ranges.

  • honestly im not one for country at all, but i like how you played that country riff.

  • Thank you! I have been playing for 44 years. Started off with Zeplin, and Grand Funk, James Gang etc. Learned to play classical, jazz and more because someone once told me, the best professional musician is one who plays whatever the many with the checkbook needs. Funny, I go through moods of ...Classic Rock, Chet Atkins, Gospel, Blues, Jazz. Ain't life good.....

Thank again for your kind comment.

  • Let us know when you are ready. They are well within reach.

  • Hi Bobby, do you still have the mahogany top version of this guitar in stock? Those are really nice.

  • No, we no longer have the Mahogany top 1578. I do have one last 1578 Bear Claw top guitar that was found at the factory a few weeks ago. Toll Free 888 422 0788 $699 plus shipping.

  • I bought a 1578 Ultra Deluxe from you ---looks like one in video---spruce top---What was the differance between 1578 and 1578-4 BC

  • HI,

The 1578 is the model, the 4 after the dash, is for natural on all Ovation model numbers and BC just stands for Bear Claw Spruce. So the 4BC just gives a bit more detail to the model and says Natural Bear Claw Spruce which is what your guitar is also.

  • Hi Bobby are ultrasonic humidifiers ok to use or is it better with the type that uses heat. thanks

  • We don't use heated Humidifiers because we don't find them Necessary in Oklahoma. I discovered today that our Walmart stores here in OKC have the Sunbeam Coolmist 24 hour run time Humidifiers that will do a room easily but and whole house is also possible with these and it is on clearance here for only $59.

  • hmm.. what is your favorite guitar ? :)

  • My first two serious guitars as a teenager were a Martin and an Ovation. My old 1967 Brazilian D35 Martin has to be way up there. The Adamas old #47 is the best sounding guitar I have ever heard. I have a new Taylor Cocobolo Build to Order Jumbo guitar that is awesome. I should have it on the website before two long. Anyway, it is hard to nail it down to just one.

  • You're a legend, if I didn't live the other side of the atlantic I'd totally come to your shop

  • Thank you very much. Hope you can come and see our store one day. It is really a great place. It is cold winter time now and snowing and the fireplace in the store is so warm and cozy and playing great guitars gets to be even more fun.

  • You are right! I do have one of the greatest jobs in the whole world. I talk to people about wonderful guitars all day long and I get to play some of the finest instruments in the world. It makes me so thankful that I worked very hard for 40 years to learn to play the guitar. It is really fun now.

    Thanks again,

    Bro Bobby

  • @BroBobbyB is this still available please provide detail

  • We have only one left, New in the Box with the Ovation Gig Bag Case and it is $599. It would have been gone but someone put it on layaway and never paid it out and after a year we sell them. It is the last one and now everybody's going to know about it. Call us at 888 422 0788 if you want it. 10 AM to 6 PM central Time.

  • What's bear claw top?

  • Bear Claw is a higher grade of Tone Wood in the Sitka Spruce wood that has a nice figuring on the grain that makes it look like the tree was clawed by a bear as it was growing and thus it is called "Bear Claw."

  • What Happened To The Sound Tack On This Video...It's Missing...

  • I can still hear it just fine. But then again, maybe it is just that great Ovation sound echoing in my head.

  • is a very good guitar :D

very very good, nice video :d

    thanks

  • And Thank You, it was fun to make and still fun see what has happened with this first one.

  • Bobby, thank you so much for posting these demonstrations. It makes online ordering SO much easier!

  • You are very welcome. It is a blast. This was the first video I ever posted and I'm still shocked that it has had tens of thousands of views. I guess you never know until you step out there.

  • Hey im looking for an ovation guitar, and am wanting to spend about 500, or less. Which one should i get. Im not sure what all the "deluxe"s and all that other stuff means. Im really looking for something comfortable and stylish. I have a fender strat and a les paul. Whats something that i might be interested in? Btw, this would be used as my acoustic guitar, so it has so to be somewhat loud when its not plugged in so people can hear it.

  • Our best selling guitar in the $500 range has been the Ovation 1578-4BC which I am playing in this video. The only thing that comes close to it in value may be some of our Seagull guitars. They are also great sounding acoustics for not a lot of money. Fell free to call us at 888 422 0788 toll free and we can talk with you about ordering any of our 3000 guitars at Oklahoma Vintage Guitar.

  • i got a applause guitar over 17 years, and it sounds great and it plays great, plus I never put the guitar in a case, but still my baby (guitar) got no problem with that

anyway its a great guitar (for so little money)

  • This is a great comment about a quality of an Applause guitar. The applause guitars have laminated tops, and while some people are not high on laminated top guitars, they are tough and very rarely warp or crack. 17 years later it is still sounding playing and looking as good as new, and this is one of the things a laminted top can give you when stored out of the case, that a solid top guitar most likely will not. A solid top guitar out of the case will need more care to hold up as well.

  • How would you care for an expensive solid top guitar that is kept out of the case?

  • Humidity is the most important thing for a solid wood guitar. I keep a Martin hose humidfier inside the body of my guitars and in the winter time when the heater is running I use a Sears whole house humidifer which costs about $150 and keeps a house at 50% up to 3,000 sq ft. You just buy it and take it home and fill it with water and plug it in and it does the job. When heaters run in winter it dries and shrinks the neck and the frets will get rough edges if you only use a body humidifier.

  • So the body humidifier works even when it is out of the case?

  • Yes, but the openings, or sound holes of the guitar need to be sealed. I use a CD with the Humidifier in the center hold of the CD and it traps the moisture inside the guitar.

  • (sorry about all these questions, but you seem very knowledgeable and helpful!)

My air conditioner (reverse cycle) is heating in winter and cooling in summer, so running nearly all year round. Is this going to destroy the guitars I have hanging on the wall in the same room? Will a house humidifier help this?

  • A piece of wood seeks the humidity level of 47.3% for optimum health. This is perfect for a guitar. All you have to do is go to Wal-mart and get a hygrometer, usually a thermometer with Hygrometer together for about $15-20, Acurite is the brand we use. Place it on the wall in the room where your guitar is and when it drop below 45% run the room humidifier until it gets up to 50% and if it goes up to 55 or 60% it is not a real problem unless it is above 60% with full sting pressure for weeks.

  • The Hygrometer will tell you what your guitar already knows and it will tell you if your room is good for your guitar or if it is damaging the guitar, simply by showing you how far off you are from 47.3%. I keep the store at 50% because the guitar can never quite come up to the level of the room, nor can it totally dry out if the room is totally dry, but it can dry out enough to crack and cause damage. Hope this helps.

  • OMG i wish I played like u...I'm learning though!

  • Just remember, keep practicing and practise correctly, in other words, take the mistake out of the lick before you repeat the lick in your practice, otherwise you will be practicing your mistake and it will become even more engrained in your lick. We have lots of young people who are taking lessons at our store and I find there are two types of kids, those whom you have to make them practice and those whom you have to make stop. The second kids is the one who is going to be the player.

  • Applause guitars are really great guitars for the money. There are some pros that use them to make tons of money. We have AE148's that play and sound good.

  • See what I mean, Tone is in the Ear of the Listener. Some like one thing, other like another, That is what makes the world of music so great. This also tells you that, just because you don't sound like someone else doesn't mean some will not like your voice. I have been amazed at the people who I though could not sing at all, and they had a great following and sold millions of recordings. Just make the music, make it loud, make it known, some will love it, and some will love you for it.

  • Gibsons are nice guitars too. We have many of them in the store. I think it is great that there are so many different guitars and styles out there today. "As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, tone is in the ear of the listener." I grew up with a Gibson Hummingbird and a J45 and I remember being amazed at the great sound of a Glen Campbell Ovation in the late 60's. It takes all the instruments to make a world full of music.

  • This guitar is all made in the USA except the top purfling of abalone. The abalone was done in Korea to keep the cost down or else it would be $2859 like a custom elite. This one is only $499, and is all assembled in Connecticut, even has the US OP Pro Electronics.

  • just a question..doesnt the the guitar crack over time because of the plastic back?

  • I have owned Ovation guitars since the early 1970's and only saw 2 out of about 2000 that have come through my hands that had any problem with cracking. It is really a myth that the top cracks because the Lyracord back is a different material and doesn't move the same. If this were the case all guitars with laminated back and sides and solid tops would crack dramatically but they do not. There was a problem in the 70's but it was more of a glue problem than material differences. No problem now

  • i love my ovation

i bought this taylor a while back

and i still think my ovation celeb has a much better sound

  • well im a teenager so i'm thinking about buying the Ovation Applause Series AE148 Super Shallow Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar because it is not that expensive at guitar center i think only 248 dollars is it any good?

  • the back is made out of plastic! thats just low!

  • Actually the material on the back of Ovation guitars is Lyracord. I read many years ago, it is a space age material developed by Kaman Aviation for the nosecone of the Boeing Jets. The black nosecone on a Boeing Jumbo Jet is the same material as the back of an Ovation. This material developed by Charlie Kaman for aviation was discovered to have remarkable acoustic qualities and is almost indestructible. Charlie Kaman was also the man who started Ovation guitars in the Mid 60's.

  • I'm really happy to hear people actually know these things rather than speaking outa' there asses.

When you spend easily $600 on a guitar, it's not gonna be simple plastic.. xD

  • I am not currently a treacher, though I have done some teaching. I'm just a guy who has played for 42 years and have been guitar crazy for about that long too. I started collecting guitars in 1971 and I had about 200 pieces before I opened Oklahoma Vintage Guitar 10 years ago in 1998.

  • Are you a teacher because you play the best! (wish i lived in oklahoma city)

  • i swear to you ovation guitars if made in the USA are the best acoustic guitar to spend youre money on. they were designed so that sound would not get trapped in the corners of the guitar, and i assure you there is not a better guitar to buy! i have a washburn d10sce made in china. had it for about 6 months and i like it lots, but the next guitar i get is an USA Ovation.

  • How much is that model cost currently

  • the 1578 4BC and the 1578FMH (Figured Mahogany) sells for $499, with a gig bag they cost $599 plus $39 for shipping in the continental United States either way.

  • im actually thinking about buying me an ovation, but i dont know if ill like the sound. How does it compare to the woods? Specifically im considering a taylor 214ce or an lx contour bowl. Whats the difference in sound between an ovation with a center soundhole and a 5 Piece Epaulets ovation?

  • We sell Martin, Taylor and Gibson all solid guitars & the Ovations hold their own well with them. The 200 Taylor has plywood back & sides. The Elite Style or "Epaulet" Ovation guitars as opposed to the 1 Soundholes are different animals. The Epaulets make it possible to do fan bracing & many people like the sound better. If you are a player like most players & you play more for pleasure than for performance, you will like the epaulet models, they give the player much more sound.

    Bobby

  • good guitar playing

  • Nice! Where is your store?

  • Hi! Our store is currently moving from Oklahoma City to El Reno, Oklahoma, which is about 12 miles west of OKC on I-40. We bought a "Vintage" 100 year old building (built to be a J.C. Penny's in 1908) in downtown Historic El Reno. We are planning to put a vintage guitar museum in the third floor. We are so excited and hope you can come out when we get open sometime in October.

  • this is cool
