As a native Houstonian I really enjoyed this, but a correction is in order: Yes, Channel 39 was the first successful UHF station in Houston, because by the late 1960's most TV's had UHF tuners. The first UHF station in Houston (Channel 29) came and went back in the 1950's because few people spent the money to buy a UHF converter; the second area UHF station was Channel 16 in Galveston, and their signal barely reached most of Houston. Channel 39 did it right, at the right time - kudos to them.
