I hear Cissy over everybody else.....her voice was very outstanding....it stood out in her background vocals. This is indeed a treat...this is what i grew up on this type of gospel.
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
UMM I GUESS HI IM NOT SURE IF WE ARE RELATED BUT I CAN SING AND MY LAST NAME IS DRINKARD REALLY OCKWARD BECUASE YOU DONT REALLY FIND TO MANY DRINKARDS IM FROM BLAKELY GA AND MY GRANDMA NAME IS GLADYS BATTEY SO IDK
Never ceases to amaze me how a song can make you cry at first,,,,then it can make you feel happier than ever. I mean that sincerely. Just amazing. I heard this group for the first time this morning. Wish I couldve heard this sooner in my life.
Great post.... one of my favorites... would you happen to have "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" by the Drinkards... It is a solo on one of their albums? GOD BLESS
If they were a rock group, they'd be called a tribute band. This is Newark's local version of Dorothy Love and The Original Gospel Harmonettes. Everything about them -- harmonies, syncopations, diction -- is out of the Harmonettes' rule-book. Their greatest lead Judy Guions sang, strutted, and even quickened like Dot Love.
I don't think that Cissy would call what they did a tribute to anyone other than God. The Drinkards started as children singers, and were singing straight ahead hymns, later evolved into a full gospel group.
Thanks, of course I know Cissy's voice very well, and have heard Annie sing live, not as familiar with Marie or Lee's singing voices. Marie can be heard singing in documentary made about Cissy some years ago.
You are correct! It is Marie leading this song. The reason why I couldn't tell is b/c I have a live song that she led, and she sounds TOTALLY different.

Marie sounds remarkably like her niece Dionne Warwick.
