I'm on my fifth CBG and still learning from my mistakes. Refreshing to see you working in the same way. Trial and error, problem solving and creativity are what makes it fun to built these instruments.
THANX.. I'VE WATCHED EVERYTHING ON YOU ON YOUTUBE. LOVE IT ALL. YOU'D BE A REAL CHARACTER, YOU MAY NOT THINK YOU'VE GOT MUCH TO OFFER, MY FRIEND YOU HAVE IT ALL. I HAVE LEARNT SO MUCH. I'M THINK'IN OF MAKEN ME ONE OF THOSE HOME MADERS. AUSTRALIANS LOVE MAKING THINGS UP OUT OF JUNK AS WELL... BIG THANX. MOLLIE. & KEEP IT COMING..
Looks like fun! Maybe you could get the label off a Bolivar cigar and glue it to the head, in the center of the tuning gears, just to tie the whole instrument together. Just a thought.
Also, if you want any more cigar boxes let me know. Theres a huge cigar outlet just down the road from me and they sell all their boxes (wood and cardboard) for $2 each.
Yeah, my friend is a guitar luthier. He makes these formica guitars, with a solid mahogany neck. They're pretty nice, wants me to make a banjo with you.
after seeing your vids, i am interested in makeing a guitar version. i have an old gibson neck off an sg that would work fine...im thinking a gas can type...
That was most interesting to watch, thanks.

LOVE THIS !!!! HOW IS THE 5th STRING CONNECTED??
mrsdopydick 4 months ago
@mrsdopydick You must mean on the tail piece end. I hang it on the same spline as the 4th string. 4th string is heaviest, it never breaks..

Fill the hole with a filigree design, something like a Lute sound hole.
I have a length of Purple-Heart and a bag of tuners, Hmmmmm.

How about putting a billet A/C vent in the hole from a 1967 to 1972 Chevy P/U. Shiny always makes for a smile.

@originalsidedump nooooooooooooooooooo no billet ever!!!!! long live blacksmith/toch fabricated parts

try a sound post in the hole under the bridge. that will help resonate the sound in the box and bring out some nice sound.
onyxreddragon 2 years ago
How do you make a "sound post"?
rpeek 2 years ago
maybe put one of those small metal resonator cones in that hole?
