I think that Adam Mynott has made a mistake here. But let us remember that Mrs Gibbons is a political pawn for the Sudanese government (who are Islamists and responsible for the genocide of their fellow countrymen and coreligionists in Darfur). The right response is not to concede any moral authority to the Islamists, both at home and in Sudan, but for the British government to make it clear that her arrest, conviction and detention have damaged relations betwen our countries.
