If it were the case, why won't this Andy whom go to the Olympic and life 600 pounds over his head with his arms and knees straight upwards? The only reason I can speculate was this Andy whom can't do it. To life something over your head with the rest of your body straight up is something massively different than to life something over your knee.
@Doooku olympic lifting isnt very practical. powerlifters and strongmen have a shitload more raw strength than an olympic lifter. all it is is technique, the clean and jerk is pretty much a squat
@1bigmig1 Not by much cause bolton uses powerlifting gear when he does his lifts, Poundstone isn't very far behind him in strength and poundstone would fking hammer him in any strongman event!
@SlammedBeretta in deadlift, both of them would be blown away by magnusson and his raw lower back power.if even bolton is far away in raw power from magnusson, then poundstone doesnt have a chance.
@steriods4champions Last time I checked, you aren't allowed to use lifting straps in powerlifting; you aren't allowed to hitch either, without getting red lighted.
That could have been VERY dangerous with the plates slipping off the end. Glad Andy put it down just in time. The whipping motion could have seriously injured the guy. Who didn't secure the damn weight?!
@TheTrueFortress ive read on his site he doesnt blame anyone for the weight coming off he says its just something that happens sometimes with that amount of weight
@Nikkogran What sucks is that Scott Mendelson claims to be the worlds strongest man. Bench is one area of strength. Saw a guy one year win a huge meet by just benching. I did a full meet, so did most of the others but he was judged best.
Straps can in fact add more to your dead lift than a suit would....anyone one youtube here that actually can lift some decent weight and has used a suit before knows that you really don't get much more of an increase in weight because of the suit, i mean just look at the top deadlifters and what they do raw, i think Konstantinov pulled only 10 pounds more with a suit. It can also ruin your lift at times. So thats that with the suit, now for straps?....well you can argue that your still
can any 1 tell me where u position ur belt wen ur doing deadlifts. cuz wen i do deadlifts the belt pinches wen i go down.. its fucking annoying!! it seems likes this guys has it low.. but i was told i shud pull the belt up higher??? your thoughts please!!!
@kingi6030 try having the belt a bit tighter, lower and try having some of it on the skin even if its only half on your skin and half on your bottoms. this might not be the proper way i dont know but it works for me
No, nowhere close, he's just another deadlift specialist, like Mendy and Hoornstra are for bench. There's a reason you don't see them dominating any full powerlifting tournaments. Still, huge respect to all of these athletes.
He has a 2,806lb total (2007), which at the time was the world record total, including the world record squat of 1,213 and a 1,008 deadlift, leaving a 585 bench, which is kind of low for someone of his caliber, but nonetheless badass.
@Pentagonshark666 Maybe at the deadlift. Then again, you don't see the World Heavy weight Oly champion contesting deadlifts, same goes with men like Poundstone and Savickas.
A well-known powerlifter, a man I trust, told me he saw Andy Bolton deadlift 860 lbs (390 kilos) for 5 good competition-style reps, strapless. Then he did a second set of 5 with straps on. They were hard sets, but not limit efforts. This was in the summer of 2009. Does the word "brute" ring a bell?
People only believe things if they see it but Poundstone did say he's done 830 x 5 strapless. He says his grips gives up beforehand so he does use straps. Yeah he did 800 x 9 with straps but i bet he coulda got atleast 5 if he claims he can do 830 x 5. It's on muscular development somewhere...look it up.
Explode the bar off the ground? You are aware that Andy Bolton has RAW deadlifted 948 RAW in a competition from 2005 or sometime around then, right? Also, if you watch Poundstone's 800 X 9 video, he IS wearing a suit.
Bolton is wearing a suit in this video. I don't count any lifts with suits. Only belts. Powerlifting has become a circus act with all these squat suits and bench shirts.
It's true that Bolton is wearing a suit during this lift, but he has done some HUGE RAW deadlifts in competition as well. I believe a dozen 900+ RAW deadlifts in just a belt, so although he's wearing a suit, the deadlift suit, as I'm sure you know, isn't anything close to the bench shirt or squat suit.

Powerlifting has become a freak show with all this stupid gear.
@Andrew32488 bench and squat suits add hundreds of pounds deadlift suits do not. Andy deadlifted over 950 Raw, so regardless he is still the strongest deadlifter in the world.
@Andrew32488 No, belts and wrist wraps offer structural support only, they do not offer any counter resistance like knee wraps do. Some organizations consider knee wrap use raw, others do not. 100% Raw federation doesn't even allow wrist wraps.
I can see your point, but wrist wrist wraps allow you to hit those heavy benches by keep your wrist straight. Hence, you only have to focus on the push. IT HELPS ALOT. Same with the belt because it helps you keep that big air in. They all assist. Including knee wraps.
@Andrew32488 Oh no question that they all help, my max bench is about 10 pounds better with my Inzer Iron wraps on; but wrist wraps and belt do not lessen the amount of force necessary to perform the lift, like knee wraps do.
Possibly, but once your grip starts going the entire lift does become a lot harder because it becomes the limiting factor in the lift. @ExhumedANDConsumed True, but derek is stronger all around. Arm strength pressing strength, and he is much better conditioned. He can probably jump higher also.
@ExhumedANDConsumed Dont get me wrong, andy is the best dead lifter in the world, and in the top 3 best squatters, but that is as far as he goes. He is strong in a very very narrow field, where as Derek is strong in a much much wider range.
@mahopacbboy you could not be more wrong.when you actually have to rely on gripping power, its makes lifts alot more taxing , mentally and physically. straps make lifts easier because your mind is focused only on the posterior chain.
@JadeSimonetto Yeah, but straps are not ACTUALLY lifting the weight as you would with your own natural strength, natural grip and hands themselves, steriod-free as well.
wow that guy in the backround with his hand on the bench just watching, looks like freakin the bigger and alittle bit bulky fat verison of jeff monson like the powerlifter verison of monson lol..

The reason hes not going to the olympics is simple. His sport isnt in the olympics!!!
Your question is like asking why wont a UFC/MMA champion go to the olympics as a wrestler!
Or why a worlkdclass kickboxer wont go to the olympics as a boxer.
He cant do what an olympic lifter can do,and an olympic lifter cant do what he can do.
Its that simple.

@ExhumedANDConsumed Dont get me wrong, andy is the best dead lifter in the world, and in the top 3 best squatters, but that is as far as he goes. He is strong in a very very narrow field, where as Derek is strong in a much much wider range.

@ExhumedANDConsumed who gives a shit?? 800 pounds is still 800 pounds, straps or not.
mahopacbboy 1 year ago
@mahopacbboy you could not be more wrong.when you actually have to rely on gripping power, its makes lifts alot more taxing , mentally and physically. straps make lifts easier because your mind is focused only on the posterior chain.
JadeSimonetto 1 year ago
@JadeSimonetto Yeah, but straps are not ACTUALLY lifting the weight as you would with your own natural strength, natural grip and hands themselves, steriod-free as well.

@ExhumedANDConsumed yeah and i love how people forget he's the strongest deadlifter in the world and in history......

@ExhumedANDConsumed
Strongman is a more grip intensive sport, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter.
