I think Martin originally intended to take Tyrion a different direction, considering in every subsequent moment Tyrion limps, aches, and waddles everywhere he goes. :)

@SuperUltraFunDude Technically, Syrio was bald, Arya is suppose to have a Horse face, Renly was omitted from the show completely (And his lines are done by Robert), the Armorer gave Jon the speech about how he treats his new brothers (In the show Tyrion gives it to him), Arya never shot an Arrow to show off at the begining, and so on. :) There are a lot of minor differences I notice between the books and the show, but overall this is possibly the best book to screen adaptation I have ever seen.

That's problematic. You see, if it would end in the 6th, it would be a perfect close-up to both the TV show AND the book together. The 5th book was recently released. The show is about to start it's 2nd season soon. It takes Martin about 4-5 years to make a book. Exactly the amount needed for the series to finish season 5, and the day the 6th book is released, the 6th season can start it's filming.

@badkiller2 dont worry about it, he will write 6th and 7th much faster, mostly because so far, characters have gone their own way and he had to make many different storylines, but he stated that they will start to meet each other (he found the inspiration for this from fellowship of the ring, as they split in the begining and find each other later on).
