I know somebody who is Northern (not the same person as mentioned in previous comments) and very well-spoken with a soft, deep and peaceful voice like Wendolene's, but then I also think Geordie Georgie's accent is very pretty. Unfortunately my age group, whether Southern or Northern, usually have either a clumsy, challenging sort of voice or else a high, mouse-like mumble, and copy modern American dialect - 'awesome', or 'like' as a filler in most sentences.
Besides, the lady who teaches me about equality and diversity (who looks and sounds a lot like our beautiful Jill Halfpenny) has a Geordie accent herself (though she is Brighton-born like me) because her family are from Newcastle.
I've just researched Geordie stereotypes, and my guess is that perhaps this snooty family are time travellers from an era that wasn't very well educated about equality and diversity, and so they're scared of Jill because they think she might be carrying bricks in her handbag, spend her weekends ladling brown ale down her throat and gambling, and that she's had 15 children before she reached the age of 25.
@Ilovecats112233 It's more a parody of the North-South divide in England, whereby the Southerners are seen as posh and stuck up while the northerners are seen as angry and stabby.
@Ixistant That view seems to vary. I'd always thought we were known for speaking more posh down here (Harry Potter and Queen's English), but then my sister thought Northerners were the more posh ones. Personally I think many Northerners (though not all) have some beautiful accents and dialect, particularly in Wallace and Gromit: 'fab', 'grand' and 'cracking' have become some of my favourite words for anything good)!
@Ixistant Sorry, just realised I'd muddled this with another video with Catherine as Geordie Georgie! I remember now this one included Jill Halfpenny.
it makes me chuckle how its "us" its like there two of you, and "mam" im so used to "mum" i have nothing against the accent, i like it, this sketch makes me laugh cos of it though =P
I'm from South Shields, just up the road from gateshead where Jill is from. Listen when she interviewed - hse says 'darlin' alot - so do I as do lots of us!
my ex-girlfriend goes to the same school where Jill went(St Edmunds in Wrekenton) and her friend Nickys aunt is a close friend of Jill's. Oh and I live in South Shields to, on Mackem Road.
its funny but wrong lol tate says jills from newcastle but could be as far as scumberland even tho newcastle is frther north lol a kno its a piss take but still they can try and make it accurate
Lol omg thats funny, although when we first moved to London and I started school we had to do work placement and when I did mine at a playgroup. Some of the bairns cried whenever i talked lol
Lol aww thats a shame!! I can't say I've had the same experience but I suppose that's cause I still live in the north! Although me and my cousins have arguments about which of us talk wierd!!!
