@3215murph ... institutionalized slavery is a system where one human is subjected to work due to necessity. I do not care about another country I care about this one that is failing. Freedom cannot exist if opportunity and resources are NOT equal.
@mba2ceo 'sell out' 'uncle tom'? Just out of curiosity; is there any successful, conservative black person that is not an 'uncle tom' in your opinion? My god! Everything he stands for, everything he lectured on, everything he believes all these years is now meaningless for you right? How dare you make such a racist comment you ignorant ass hole?
@3215murph ... then we disagree. I do not support exploitation ... U do. We have an impasse. No man should be subservient to another. All man are created equal ... U should study that concept before discussing wealth.
@3215murph ... that is NOT true. GOVT should level the playing field and allow opportunity. If anything GOVT does too little to ensure "all men are created equal". Why should a man slave just because he is unlucky in the birth lotto ? USA should tax the RICH at 50% and distribute to the poor.
I don't agree with Sowell's suggestion of using force (law) to break up unions. In a true free market. give the employer the right to hire and fire who they want and only force union workers not to hinder employers in doing so (blokking entrances in demonstrations etc) Problem solved
@mba2ceo Welfare is enough to survive on and for some people, that's all they want. People work because they want to do more than survive or they have a conscience and don't want to go through life living as leeches.
@mba2ceo You give people handouts and they are never motivated to get out of poverty. Is it better to give a bit of relief now & trap people in that situation or let them be uncomfortable enough to be productive and climb out of poverty? What about their children? Is it better for them to teach their children to suck off the gov or is it better for them to teach their children to go to school, learn, and stay out of poverty? We have seen multiple generations with their hands out. How much more?
@mba2ceo It is a trap and it is cruel. Gov officials use a permanent underclass to keep getting elected while telling the uneducated, underclass people they are going to help them. Then they use the passionate people that really do want to help & believe the handouts will help to spread their BS policies. The people running for election know better. They are using the poor & uneducated to get votes based on empty promises You, my friend, are the passionate one being used to spread BS promises.
I have liberal friends who hate this man just for appearing on this network (everybody has flaws). What's sad is that then they'll say this network is closeminded. Say what?
Conservatives don't necessarily want big government. Most of them think the government's already too big. But I would guess that if Dr. Sowell were forced to declare a political affiliation, I suspect it would be libertarian. But he analyzes social phenomena as an objective economist, not as a politician.
Rush promoting Sowell is a good thing. Sowell is not NEARLY as well-known as he should be, and Limbaugh reaches millions of people. So however Sowell gets exposure is ok by me.
Sowell is brilliant but he is an individualist with not much use for politicians. So he's not remotely interested in making the compromises politics entails. Good for him. When he says something, I can trust it.
i don't understand how Sowell himself and others call Sowel a conservative- he's a liberal in the classical sense, a libertarian, if you will, a disciple of Milton Friedman
@goPistons06 Mises another great man called the labels people use "stupid"and Sowell agrees with him,and you should be able to see this by now? After all if you're not on the right, well then you're wrong!
@Ipetratz I know he's a conservative which is why I disagree with a good deal of what he says, but his views on race and social ills are fascinating. He's one of the few people to tackle the concept with sanity..
Sowell, being a conservative, prefers a decentralized model of government whereas Limbaugh simply does not. Limbaugh also only pays lip service to free markets. Sowell is a conservative. Limbaugh is a Republican-style "conservative, and I personally think Limbaugh has issues with race.
@AshillaBeige I think you are confusing conservatives with libertarians, conservatives tend to be for big government, like Bill O'Reilly and Shawn Hannity. Libertarians are the ones that want little or no government, Sowell really falls more into that category.
@AshillaBeige When you say he is a conservative, you are wrong by todays standards. He is a libertarian. In favor of both social and economic liberties. Government hurts more than helps. You are just lumping him into a category with all the other republicans who start unjust wars, increase spending, print money, and are not much different from the democrats. He is not a George Bush, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh republican. Sowell is a true example of what the republicans should be.
@AroundSun He's not a libertarian. He's close, but his views on foreign policy are conservative in the more "Republican" sense although no where near as bad as a typical Republican.
He certainly is not a typical conservative. I mean conservative like Goldwater-conservative.
And Thomas Sowell opposes equal marriage rights AND believes in marriage as a state institution. Maybe you should learn a person's views before you comment on them ;)
@AroundSun I see someone can't stand being corrected. and who would prefer to spew out whatever "facts" he or she pleases regardless of their accuracy.
I suppose you don't know what an economic collectivist is either, since I've never given any evidence pointing to your conclusion that I am one.
As a lesson, if you want to go off on someone without knowing what you're talking about, don't expect that person to correct you as your mommy or 3rd grade teacher would.
@AshillaBeige You never corrected me first of all. You just said a bunch of random crap that had nothing to do with what I told you. You decided to agree that he is not a conservative by todays standards. Then you felt the need to tell me about his views on marriage and gay rights. I said, yea, you're right. What's your point? I can tell you are a socialist because you bashed Rush for being a spokesman for the free market, hence you don't like free markets. Where did you correct me woman?
@AshillaBeige neocon? Please tell us all you have pulled you're head out of the pitch black darkness between you're legs..........you've had 2 weeks and tell everybody the difference between these two men.
@rudarisfinaris Wow. SOMEONE thinks youtube is serious business.
Sowell is for decentralized government whereas Limbaugh (like Glenn Beck) pays some lip service to the concepts of small government, but would still have protectionism, a large military industrial complex and ESPECIALLY social constraints.
@AshillaBeige Isnt it good for him to read one of Sowells books might open his mind isnt that something youd like? Change anothers perspective on thought and ideas? Or do you just want him and others like him dead? They are both 2 ways of thinking but ones closer to what a nazi might think and the others what an open minded free thinker would think.
@ssjwes Rush Limbaugh is too dogmatic. He reads Ayn Rand, spouts some objectivist concepts, ignores the inherent atheism and denial of faith, then goes back to supporting protectionist policies.
Don't put words into my mouth. I criticized his politics and his integrity. That is civilized. I did not wish death upon him nor did I wish harm. Oh, and I call Godwin's Law, turd burglar.
I don't wish death on anyone save folks who are violent, and I'd still prefer to keep them alive in prison.
Dr. Sowell could do without a jackass like Limbaugh's endorsement.
