@kakzuawa If you plugged it back in...then it isn't loose anymore, now is it? So of course it works just fine then again. If you left it loose, then it wouldn't work anymore...That is what I said there...

I opened it up without a problem, but when it comes to removing the part that covers the lens, I can't open it. IT's got only two screws that I can see, and that only makes it possible to sort of bend it, and insert the swab at a certain angle which I'm not sure even manages to reach the lens.

Awesome. My brother showed me how to take it apart and clean it but I forget where the screws were. Thank you! This helped a ton. Now I think I can do it on my own from now on and not forget what to do.

There were some dust puffs stuck in the machine but I got them out. Never gonna let that happen again...I'm going to check and clean it more often if it needs cleaning. How often do you clean your PS2?

@yongslicer Lol its not harder than u think but im telling you in the end its all worth it :D Clean the lens with Alcohol on a cu-tip and if your ps2 looks like its dusty Clean it out a little. I did that and Im playing Budokai right now :D, trust me this works :D

Quick question man. I have a fat PS2 like yours. It happens that I put a disc, but the PS never reads it. I don't have the red clouds screen of error, but I got the "Browser & System Config" every time. After reseting the game like 10 times, finally the PS is able to start the game. Is this something that can be fixed just by cleaning the lens as you did, or is this something worse ? Please advise !

@orestesdd Never vacuum inside your PS2...you might accidentally suck something up that is needed in it. If you want it cleaned, use a dust blower. These can be gotten for cheap at a camera store or something similar to it.

@orestesdd Vacuums create ESD. Electro Static Discharge destroys chips and circuitry. Never use a vacuum on any computer parts. The only thing you should use is a safe compressed air machine for dusting. Some places supply compressed air in a can.

How do I do this if my PS2 has a hard drive and a network connector in the back?  I didn't see that your PS2 had anything like mine. Should I remove the HDD and Network connection before I do this? I will try to do this if none of my old DVD-9 games work. I tried one this morning, and it could not read it, but it could well be the particular game. I will try other before I go to this extreme. Only one thing: In the video you can release the top part of the ps2 taking out only 8 screws, but in my console you need to take out two more screws placed under the front part. Also the cover of the dvd drive had only two screws, and not four. Maybe it's because mine is pal first version.

Wow, thanks a lot! For a while now, some of my PS1 and even newly bought PS2 games have been getting disc read error, and while I was scared to try this way after reading up on it, your video helped me through it a lot!

Although that second set of screws is a lot tinier than I thought they were. I had to use a knife to get those out. Maybe people need to be aware of exactly how small those are? Once again though, thank you so much! I'm excited to play the game I just got and my PS1 games!

That your remote doesn't work, has nothing to do with this video. During the cleaning of your lens nothing is harmed that would in any way infect your remote control. Not if you followed all the steps like they are that is.

Besides, all do it yourself things are at your own risk, no matter what.

I have some games (Copied) or (Burned) works with no problems, but if i bought a game like God of war, which i bought it twice won't run, instead it takes me to Browser Screen (Memory Card Selection)... anybody had a solution..

Just swipe it for a bit, doesn't matter how much just do not press too hard on it. Also, it is obviously stated (several times) that nothing is put onto the swipe. If there was, I would have put it in with the ingredients or added it as step.

i tried this fix... the cord that you mentioned didn't come loose, but became slightly bent during the fix. Using the power button still turns on the system, but the open button no longer opens the drive. Any suggestions?

My cousin decided to do some "renovation work" on our PS2 while doing so he pulled the wires that go to the reset/eject buttons out and I'm wondering if you can put those wires back in and where that would be if you can.

@boosunJ Yes you can reattach the wire, but its a pain in the ass to do. Try searching for how to reattach the white wire to your ps2 here on youtube. There are a lot of tutorials.
