Maximum federal tax credit for an electric vehicle in 2002 = $4,000. Maximum federal tax deduction for 6,000 LBS. + vehicle in 2003 = 100,000. GM recalls the EV1 for electrical problems (there were no problems reported by the consumers). GM sale's the battery technology for the EV1 to Oil companies. Closes down EV1 plants, then invests heavily in the Hummer. All this prior to there bail out.
@Psychlonic definitely in the same position as you. this is also an american product. foriengers who hate on american cars can suck it. The 426 hemi challenger is faster than a Lamborghini. now we have have the Model S that has 3 times the range of a Nissan leaf with 4 times better performance, and twice as much room. Its so great that Toyota is copying the laptop battery idea. but on top of it all its fucking gorgeous. one of the best looking cars ive ever seen.
GM should have been in the front line of EV's. If only they didnt sell out their idea, they should still be the leader in car production. EV1 was really ahead of the competition, imagine what could have been the technological breakthrough if they continue to develop their product. Should be able to charge those batteries at least 5-15min in a commercial charging stations. We should have been free of oil addiction a long time ago.
Although the charging time is yet to improve it’s unbelievable that this model, given a larger battery pack, can actually travel almost 90km more than the previous roadster despite being half a tone heavier. The achievement is simply astounding. It would be impossible for a fuel injected vehicle to make such performance. Imagine that if a car has a larger fuel tank but 500kg heavier than its competitor it’s still not possible to gain such farer distance.
If it has A/C for the summer, a heater and all wheel drive for the winter, and if it works half decent in 40 below weather, then I'm in for a husband and wife set of two, one red, and one in white. Ha...ha....ha...ha...haaaaaa.
@FreeMTrider: Northern Minnesota. Back in the mid 90's we had a few days in a row that were more than -50 F without any wind chill factor. We won the "ICE Box Capita"l" of the USA award.
@johnspartan98 We were on our street bikes today and complaining about it being 30 F here in Northern California. haha. I've only been through Minneapolis. Beautiful state, but I' sure battery issues are a problem during those times.
@dieselcowboy777 $49,000 but remember to fill a normal car with gass costs you $40- 60 to fill this will cost you $3-4 so its actually very cheep in the long run.
@jaminunit it probably wont be quite that cheap but yeah, it really adds up. Electricity is largely obtained from coal so that still is an issue. Right now, no insurance estimates are out.
Electric cars or Electric transport would be feasible only if Wardenclyffe Towers are allowed to be erected around the world or some similar technology where natures electricity can be harnessed for ALL mankind, not just those with deep pockets. DEMAN FREE ENERGY, BECAUSE ITS FREE.
Daimler bought 10% of Tesla Motors....and Fund Aabar Investments PJSC from Abu Dhabi have 9,1 % from Daimler.....i think they want to destroy the electric car...
Of course there's always the alternative of using a few of those kilowats for the engine for a speaker system that makes it easier to hear the car... by simulating the sound of an engine.
Added bonus: just like ring tunes for your phone, you could have a different engine sound whenever you want. ;-D
It's not that expensive considering it is the companies second model. How much do you think it will cost when they are building thousands of them in coming years? In just five years they will be cheaper, and have better range. And LCD's last around 14 years if you use them 12 hours a day.
The arguement people sometimes have against electric cars is that they dont make much of a sound. They say that could become a safty issue. You could be run over because you didnt hear the car coming.
Well lets give it a sound. Be inspired by Starwars. Make a sound like that and it will both be cool and make people hear it.
it nice but who can afford a 1400 a month carpayment .your not saving anything its actaully cheaper to buy a good gas millage car. you save good 70k over the tesla
Man why are you all over the Tesla cars videos trying to diss the future of America? i hope you burn in hell with your GM and other oil gulping fags that try to put this type of technology down
burn hell those pretty tuff words for some one you dont even no bitch!! there was no reason to reply like that i have nothing against electric cars. it just very expensive to own. if you want to give a 100k to me i will be happy to buy one. just make your nasty ass happy.dont lose sleep over your dream machine because you are wired as the day is long !! peace out
Just youtube "who killed the electric car" and you will know what i am talking about, electric does not mean more money, its available, the tesla might b expensive but its not the only electric that was made out there.
Electric should get cheaper than conventional cars, and fast! -- The parts count is so dramatically reduced, it should be relatively easy, for those that wish to remain in such a large developing market.
IT NEEDS TO COME DOWN TO SUB 30k in price. They can start by removing the (power consuming) garbage they are installing such as the disappearing handle and the large, extra bright and power reliant central display, which, when it goes bad (as LCD's do) will in fact make the car undriveable. - This is a sneaky one that many car makers are pushing onto consumers. Not nice at all!!!!
yes, but then you'd be driving an electric Prius. And this is so much nicer... :)
So cheaper yes, but don't remove the coolness. And it's not even that expensive if you see how much a BMW, Mercedes or Audi costs here in Belgium, and there are a lot of them here...
But it is not a (grossly overpriced) BMW, Merc or similar; all of which have this stupid LCD in the centre, as does Prius, and LCD have a life expectancy of 5 years, so they are building in obsolecence. -- We don't need this crap in any car, costly or cheap.
They're working on a sub 30k car due for a showcase in 2012 and release shortly after. They're developing from the top up, each generation will benefit the sub 30k car, I.e the car that could be a game changer. Tesla should be applauded.
We shall wait & watch & see; & hope for the best. At present I think potential customers are being primed for a big rip off;;new technologies etc etc. - This of course is garbage. There is nothing new about the technology; indeed, the parts count of the average car should plunge, making them a lot cheaper to produce. --Worth watching & stay with your old technology car for the moment.
Well I wish them every luck, they could emerge as the new heavy weights of U.S car producers, the number 1 of EV. I think the 50k model s and the sub 30k car would do well in europe, providing it looks great.
Good timing, given the trouble the other makers are in. --They may need more than the $32 million Google chipped in, but the timing is right, especially if they go sub $30k in a medium to good size car. The next 9 to 12 months should tell all.
The millions being pumped in is often criticised by critics, they say that they've swallowed up hundreds of millions but 32 million for one of the big four would barely scratch the surface for a normal ICE cars development.
Amazing car. I know a lot of people say they will, but I might actually buy one. The only negatives I notice about the car is the glass roof (but there will be different roofs available) and the fact that it doesn't make the car-sound we've all gotten used to and fallen in love with. But as long as it doesn't make a too electric shrieking sound (i.e. if it's beautifully quiet), I might buy one. I'll do a testdrive in one of these for sure, in 2011.
they are already producing their pure electric roadster.. for a new small company 2 years is not a big deal because they need to acquire manufacturing plants right now everything is single made
Na; the roadster is largely made by Lotus in U.K., who then ship it to California. I understand this new model is being made in USA which is a good thing, especially if they pick up a car plant that was a casualty of the financial crash & get it running again. - Good timing, & I would think all future models should be USA built. Apparently their is now a lot of Google moey in the company; yet another good thing, so they should survive & grow.
they are going to be the next great american car company. it is going to start with the young people, we will begin to buy and love their cars, making the company shoot through the roof.
If they make zero point generators available to the public where these cars could charge, then EV's would be TRULY 100% green. An inventor in Australia is currently on the works I believe. It's time to clean up our mess!!!
I think you will get a special Charge Station/pad for it or something, To attach to the accu. But i dont like the fact its that quiet. I want to hear a engine :(
