  • RECLUSION

  • The rule here is total silence!

We make no pretence at rehabilitation here, we are not priests, we are processors.

A meat packer processes live animals into edible ones, we process dangerous men into harmless ones.

This we accomplish by breaking you!

Breaking you physically, spiritually and here (points to head), strange things happens to the head here.

Put all hope out of your mind... and masturbate as little as possible, it drains the strength.

    Thats all, take him away.

  • ...or maybe... those are the Russian Americans... who want to harvest me... or something... hmmm... because I do NOT enjoy being sniffed... hmmm... and it's as if these weird guys enjoy smelling and sniffing me... and they get some kind of satisfaction and enjoyment out of having me smell bad... hmmm... and this is no bullshit... and I know my boundaries... simple!

  • ...and what is truly disturbing... I keep having weird Yankee men... sniff me... hmmm... and this is no bullshit... hmmm... again... there are these weird "white" guys who keep trying to get through... or to squeeze by... or they find some kind of an excuse to smell me... HA?! ...100% true... and I lived in Los Angeles... where people kept their distance... and their space... hmmm... and if someone smelled bad... then it was understood the he is experiencing financial problems... hmmm... simple!

  • ...and English insects need to be caught and imprisoned... hehehe... or better yet... just simply exterminated... HA?! ...hmmm... flies... and beatles... and butterflies... and ladybugs... and bees... and ants... and rollypollys... hmmm... those are all ENGLISH weapons of mass propaganda... HA?! ...hmmm... because real mules don't like flies... or insects... hmmm... we prefer to jump in the river... or in to a lake... and to take a shower... simple... so the English flies will leave me alone!

  • ...and I was just confronting the fears of men... since even I... for a long time... when I was younger... hmmm... I though that Papillon was French... yet NO... it's actually ENGLISH... and that is the mind rape... so people will get confused... hmmm... and the English Communists have lumped Papillon with Devils Island... HA?! ...yet in reality... Papillon and butterflies is English... HA?! ...since England loves butterflies and the Beatles... and insects... HA?! ...and beetles are insects!

  • ...and now... for the desert... hmmm... and this is in regards to giving wanted men... some sanity... and peace of mind... because taxes... and gamboling... and treasure seekers... and fortune finders... and those who had more valuables and treasure than the Queen of England... hmmm... those men needed sanctuary... so this way... the Queen will NEVER get what she thinks is entitled to her... no way... and even the English men of business chose to betray the Queen... hehehe...

  • ...so ...lets read my comments again... and in order(1234)... so this way... we will understand that there is no need to man handle... or rough/ruff handle an inmate... or a visitor... or a guest... hmmm... because applying the golden rule is what being a FRENCH MAN is all about... hmmm... because your business is non of our business...and some men... willingly chose to visit our facility... and that was so they will live longer... hmmm... and some lived out their retirement with us... hmmm...

  • ...hmmm... and since uniforms were expensive... and when the uniform felt threatened... (this is deep) ...then the uniform came off... and or was carefully removed and folded and placed on a chair... or back on the hanger... and hung up in the dresser... because the uniform was so important... simple... and if a guard was to be embarrassed... and forced to perform his duties "naked" ...and forced to slip in to something more blood absorbent... and protective for the guard... then... "THE END"

  • ...also... to modify the uniforms... so we stay cool and calm... hmmm... and that's until Papillon re-opens it's doors... to our guests... hehehe... we would need proper vent "flaps" ...or "ventilation vents" on the upper back of our uniforms... hmmm... and to be air-cooled... hmmm... the same way that a Porsche engine maintained it's dignity... and military bearing... hmmm... or we can take it one step further... and wear a modified towel... underneath the uniform to soak up moisture... hmmm...

  • ...hmmm... and this is on the sweat marks on those uniforms... hmmm... the guards probably and intentionally wore thick and worm uniform... because the uniform served as padding against hostile and violent inmates... plus... when you serve France... you want to SMELL your best... hehehe... and there is nothing more irritating... then getting all sweaty and smelly and stinky... hmmm... so this way... the guards were always pist-off... and short tempered... and quick with the stick(baton) ...bang!

  • The warden is william smithers ,(an excellent actor).........not dalton trumbo.......sorry ,but thanks for playing...........

  • Such a dead looking place......

  • The warden is Dalton Trumbo, the writer of PAPILLON'S script.

  • I think Devils Island should be purchased by the US and send prisoners there. I bet 56,000 Americans if they returned would never do a crime again.

  • If you ever have a chance to visit Tasmania you must tour the Port Arthur prison. You would believe you were in this movie. No fences, no barbed wire. They also give you a night-time "ghost tour".

  • this is my old boss speaking in this clip

  • RECLUSION---a terrifying sign

  • Imagine if they had this type of punishment for the wakos today.

  • @acquiesce100 That be justice.

  • szar hely az biztos

  • Classic - Steve McQueen is great in this one.

  • I think masturbation would be the only thing keeping me alive

  • epic movie

  • Based on a true story but totally altererd for a film.

In the book It struck me how many of his friends got killed.

He was maybe an unlucky influence on them.

Lordzack he was washed up on French Guiana and still had to escape from there.

  • no it;s fiction it's based on the life of henry charriere french fellon but the author was known for being story teller his friends did time in french guianna but he made up stories that it was him he told the truth a year before he died,it's fiction i;m afraid but beatifull anyway ,the will to never give up hope for freedom.nice how he never gave up.

  • Kiddyblender, is it fiction - maybe!? but at the end of the day you know nothing about its veracity. Really nothing. So tell us what bits he made up and what he didn't. You know nothing of the truth of it in reality yet you want to give an account oif it from that perspective. How silly.

  • wow this is based on a true story whare Papillon actualy Lived through all that escapes on a raft made from coconuts and washed up on the shores of florida whare its seid that he lived out the remaining 47 years of his life a free man!!

Amazeing how a man spends 15 years in that hellhole prison on a french islandprison and actualy endure the hell they put him through!

  • @LordZacknafien yeah, i mean 15 years is bad enough but the french on top of that omg

  • The book was amazing.

  • Yeah the book was pretty good but I love the Movie better because I love to see it,its better than reading it.

note im not saying the book is bad Im just saying its better to watch it on screen so again the book was pretty good =)

  • @EuroS50

Absolutely loved it. One of the best book I have ever read.

  • great film this was one of steve mcqueens best films

  • Papillon is a great 'fiction' story. It is fairly well known now that Henri Charrière made most of it up. The french released records from Devil's Island proving he was never even there - most of the accounts in the book were made up and the few that were true were from other prisoners.

  • spot on

  • this is my fav book and film of all time. i hope hollywood never goes near it for a remake. there aint no-one who could top this. they wouldn't even get close..

  • My father was once mistaken for Papillon

  • Sta covjek covjeku radi...Ova planeta je definitivno svemirska kanta za smece...

  • Gemma it was shot in Spain and Hawaii..

  • Iv read the book to this movie & its a great read, one of the best books iv ever read! I reconmended to anyone!

  • ,,did you read the Thorn Birds yet ?, everyone says it's the best book.

  • i read the book 3 times.....

  • You can't remake this movie. Most modern directors would just mess it up and their is just no need for a remake. The movie is already perfect.

  • You should be right...but that hasn't stopped them for:

    The Wicker Man

    Get Carter

The Italian Job (for fuck's sake!!!)

    Dr Zhivago

    The Three Musketeers

    etc et fackin cetera.

Think of any brilliant unique film (Cinema Paradiso?)...some day some dumb as shit American producer will remake it. It will be predictably appalling. And it will make huge sums of money all over the world - morons everywhere renting it on DVD "cos I've heard of this one". Sad sad sad sad.

  • Yeah the original Wicker Man was much better. The problem in Hollywood goes beyond just remakes. Over the last decade modern directors have ruined many great comic books in their movie translations The Hulk directed by Ang Lee being one of the worst. It just seems like about 2 years ago Hollywood just stopped making movies that were any good. Or maybe I am just getting older.

  • Talking about shitty remakes? You didn't recall the worst - totally absurd remake of "Day of Jackal". Awful, nonsence, childish, stupid, grotesque... FUNNY!

  • please make a remake or rerealease it , i hope some big producers would read this

  • no actors cant redo McQ and HOffs performance doesnt come close, go suck on your bib

  • i agree with your view

  • Hey its just like school without the cheer leaders!

  • You here that boys? Masturbate as little as possible if you wanna grow up big & strong.

  • gee, sounds fun...

  • I agree, US prisons are hell and they is zero reoffending rates !

  • this is how all prisons should be. re-offending would be zero.

  • means you're never too old to start a new life

  • Was not even shot there moron!

Do your homework, meet the stars,or shut the fuck up, and do not mislead fans of these incredible actors.

    Jenna

  • it was not devils island,it was on st iles joseph.

  • Shot in PSpain and in Hawaii, this is one of my personal top 10,saw it in 1973 when i was a young lad,we could get in back then, always loved Steve and Dustin together....

The shots at the end when the credits roll are the actual horrific shots of the real Devil's Island....horrific to this very day....gripping.

  • The dream "You're Dead" is the freakiest thing ever.

  • is that clip anywhere to be found ?

  • It's on youtube, just type in Papillon dream. It's called "Papillon - Dream#2 - Hero to old Friends."

  • Got it! Thanks man! Yeah it's pretty freaky

It gets scarier and scarier the more you think of it

  • this is a classic, i read in conde n'ast that in real live today devils island is a resort,

  • A Classic!

  • The movie sucks compared to the Book. So much is left out.

Sadly Papillon is not a true story. It is a work of fiction. The book idea was stolen from another book by Rene Belbenoit called Hell On Trial. If you read Hell On Trial, it is virtually the same story but written about 30 years earlier. Belbenoit was not as good a story teller as Charriere however.

  • Originally this was going to be a French movie staring Jean-Paul Belmondo...

  • the book is even better - i recommend the british english version

  • MegadetH \,,/

  • read banco the second book also its v good

  • hi from turkiye best movie ı seen this is extra ordionary story and... perfect cast...iİSTANBUL /// TÜRKİYE

  • I would say the best movie ever .

  • Best movie!

  • One of the best ever!

  • Awesome movie & at times 'VERY' sad. At the end though, Papillon 'MADE IT' & showed those bastards!!!

  • Henrie cherris Book ; I have read in Indian English Versions.

The most deadly thing was death of a person Stucking in MUDWater after crossing a sea in a gunnybag sack....

  • Thanks for posting. Great Film. Better book. The British translation is better [and longer] than the US translation. Reclusion was on Isle St Joseph rather than Isle Du Diable.

  • Thanks Jon.

  • ooo masterbate as little as possible that is going to be tough.

  • This is one of those movies that as soon as I flip and see it on TV, even if it's midnight - I have to watch the whole thing.

  • Oh my god, thank you ! I am the same way, I thought I was the only person who adored papillon and steve mcqueen but here all of you are!

  • THE greatest movie ever made [IMO]. One of MY favorite movies.

  • seek out the european translation into english - it's fantastic

  • I'm related to the guy that escaped from devils island in real life

  • are you really? the real papillon henri ?

  • yes I am I did a school report on him when I was a kid I got an A+ he's one of my distant cousins from my dads side of the family

  • Wow !!! Do you have any photo's letters etc... ? I would love to hear any stories you have to share about him!!

  • I have a few letters and 1 photo most of the letters are to my great great grand father when he was on Devils island but thats pretty much it

  • i read the whole book in french write by himself, its a extraordinary story that i will have loved to tell you but my english is not very good hahaha

  • He fabricated most of it.

  • true- but still a great story

  • Alun, I totally agree. I've seen the movie too at least 3 times. Awesome.

  • I wonder how true to life this is.

  • Thank You For Posting One Of The Greatest Mo vies Ever Made!
