  • Dining room table and chairs are wonderful! Love the way you lined the wall with them.

  • This is stunning! Love it! :)

  • Beautiful!! I am soo inspired by this!!!

  • You did absolute wonders to this small space. So beautifully designed. It's super elegant. Bravo to you! :)

  • omg man throw some color in there I feel depressed looking at the set up.

Don't get me wrong, you have a lot of nice things, but throw some happy colors in there asap.

  • NICHOLAS CAGE!!

  • @JDM4LlFE I get that a lot - lol

  • I love what you have done with your living space....cool beans!

  • @el4Hunnybird Many thanks! Hope you're having a great summer....

  • Toll Brothers Luxury Housing...........Go to Youtube...........Looking for Schmucks

  • The studded chair is really cool.

  • At least you have curtains on the windows. I find most nyc residents have curtain phobia. Every time I have slept over a friends house in the city I am woken up as soon as the sun comes out. I suggest them putting some god damned curtains on the windows and they look at me like i'm a fuckin weirdo.

  • i bought the same table. Pottery Barn....21st century

  • @ALICEPIN Cool! Glad you like them; they're recovered from one of the old department stores here in Manhattan (I think B. Altman). Have a great day....

  • i love it...thank you for sharing.

  • @serenamorena73 Thanks so much for watching and your much-appreciated kind words!

  • I would befriend anyone who had an apartment living room like that! Very cozy yet unique from the camera's perspective!

  • @conoley92 Thanks so much for watching - and we're going to bask in the glow of your compliments all week. - blush - Have a great day!

  • I guess when you put it like that it shows how narrow minded I've been. Please accept my apologise

  • @GarethEDavison No worries. Have a great day - the UK is a favorite of ours, by the way, and here's hoping you have an excellent new year (and let's get some spring weather, okay!) lol

  • Seriously, how up your own arse do you have to be to record and describe your living room to put on You Tube!? Get a life!

  • @GarethEDavison Well, if interior design is your living, I suppose it makes perfect sense. If you're into rugby or football and put up vids on YouTube about something you're into, then that makes sense for you.

  • omg u sound like a nerd

  • @ItsYuboyz so what the point is he HAS a nice apartment, were do you live, a cardboard box?

  • Really like the art the panels.

  • @renaissancea Thanks! The British artist Terry Shave had a fire at his studio a few years ago and lost all the other pieces in this series of work. He was delighted to have found these surviving pieces while watching vids on YouTube! He wrote to us and thanked us for letting him know his work is appreciated and has a good home. (Cool story, huh?)

  • Can one have conversations in this place? God knows you cant have that around where i live.

  • Who describes conversations as "beautiful"?!

  • @Truemoderate Well, when the camera's rolling and you're talking without a script, sometimes goofy stuff comes pouring out. Guilty! lol

  • @Truemoderate You can't? If someone states something poetic and dignified and the response is equally well composed, is the conversation not beautiful?

  • @Truemoderate Why can't a discussion be beautiful? Take two debaters lock in a battle each striving to outwit the other while using perfectly selected words and well crafted metaphors. It has a special kind of beauty.

  • So tiny but functional and beautifly done. I appreciate my space in the country, I will have to look into making my space more functional.

  • Depressing... if a funeral home had a living room, it would look something like this.

  • @edyman87 lol If what you say is true, then we've had some pretty lively parties in this funeral home!

  • I love it all but in particular what is the art made of, behind the fold out lounge?

  • @spongiebungie Those rows of overlapping plates were designed by NYC interior designer Irwin Weiner and made by Polish artist, now living in Mexico City, Xawery Wolski. He specializes in materials made from glazed ceramic, and that's what these plates are made from. Thanks so much for watching, and seasons greetings!

  • I was wondering if you were/are in any type of educational field

  • @ednuk Yes. I worked a lot of K-12 and now work in adult education (distance learning). Thanks for watching!

  • That living is so small it's almost a closet. But your decorating was beautiful for the space you were allotted.

  • this guy sounds like nicholas cage!....btw the apartment is G!

  • @nitro2050 Thanks so much for watching! It's amazing how viewers think my voice is either Nicholas Cage-y or Elmo from Sesame Street or just "annoying." (I think my voice is just me. lol) Seasons greetings to you.

  • The guy's voice was annoying, but I like the ceiling and the lighting in the room. Besides the voice, I didn't like the dining "area." Did dining rooms go the way of the dodo? I think it's evil of builders to expect people to eat in their living rooms...or god forbid, the kitchen. But I guess if space is limited...

  • Great living room!

  • @sarokas12 Thanks so much!

  • This is beautiful. I love those chairs!

You have a nice speaking voice too, videos are hard to watch if the narrator's voice isn't appealing.

  • @ShaynaSmee Thanks so much! Some folks think my voice is "annoying," but it's the one I was born with, so not much I can do about it. I've also been told I sound like Nicholas Cage and Elmo. Go figure. lol

  • This shows you dont have to have a lot of space to have a classy and stylish place. This place looks like a million bucks! Good Job!

  • @cameronstl You made our day! What a kind and generous thing to say.... Thank you so much.

  • Greetings,

Well I think I found my perfect sofa so won't be hijacking yours now, aren't you relieved! LOL It is a med grey w/ herringbone pattern. However gave the chair with the nailhead trim another look and think that is the item to "borrow" now. Hope you are having a fag weekend...Hope

  • @KissHope lol Had a groovy groovy weekend, and so glad you found a great sofa (sounds amazing!). Decorating is fun, right?! xxoo Jay

  • @westend104

Yes Jay it is fun and addicting...my lamp trap persona is lusting over lamps again. Have a couple new ones ordered and they were half off so why not right. Seems I can not get enough of mirrored furniture and bright shiny silvery chrome lamps. Linda Dano has a couple that look more like mercury than chrome and are sooooo fabulous.(sorry about the type o above) If you get a chance and haven't already take a peek at Ron Marvin's Smallest Coolest Apt. Another tramp lol

  • the chairs are AMAZING!!!!!

  • @XxpinkdymondsxX Hey, thanks much! (They're very comfy, too.)

  • vist austinwarrendesign for rooms like this!

  • That dark wood and leather chair with the metal buttons looks like a medieval torture instrument....

  • @zensorship LOL Now you know where we seat guests who misbehave.

  • @westend104

as long as you provide free WiFi Internet, you can't scare me;-)

  • beutiful conversation... lol

  • ok just did'nt look big enough for two ppl let alone 30 but its cool i like alot of sun light and lots of light the darkness makes it smaller than it proberly really is. and thanks for the reply back peice

  • so this apartment don;t have bedroom or a bathroom? because i did'nt see it i just saw tiny livingroom and tiny dining room

  • @Lavern003 Lavern, thanks for watching. Of course this apartment has a bedroom and bathroom. A kitchen, closets, and front hallway, too. This was just a shot of the combo living room and dining room - which deceptively seats 30 dinner guests in a buffet quite comfortably. The apartment owners have a large house in rural Pennsylvania on the weekends, so in the big city, this is a perfect size for two people.

  • Lovely living room!!:)

  • Where did u get ur couch from? Ive been looking for a couch like that with the masculine feel and tailored look, not necessarily a pull out bed though, if u come to nyc then u need to make hotel arrangements. lol

  • That is really gorgeous, elegant and with a warm, comfy feel at the same time. Just beautiful!

  • @Marta7350 You just made my day! Thanks so much for watching.

  • I like your art selection for this project. Nice!

  • @iDivideWalls THANK YOU!

  • ::::sigh:::: That might be just a little out of my way but thanks for the info. Btw may I ask a decorating question of you? I'm getting a bit confused on what kind of curtain/drape to use in my bedroom. As mentioned redorating and went with a comforter/pillow sham that has white background and the outline of birds in a very large print of which the birds are pear green. The comforter/shams has a small black trim. My bed skirt is a deep eggplant purple and extra solid color shams to match

  • Hi Jay,

Glad my comments gave you a chuckle, my BFF and I discuss David frequently since they both play on the same team. :-( lol Did admit recently when it comes to the Bromstud I would not be above begging! tsk tsk Anyway how splendid your perfect sofa is being showcased! What wonderful taste you have. So Jay what route will the driver be traveling...may have to plan a hijack! lol

  • @KissHope A hijack? Hmmmm. Well, the truck will be heading towards Mexico, then across the Pacific to Africa.... If you're able to follow it, you're welcome to it. lol

  • Greetings,

I swear I would have to sneek that sofa out of your apt if I lived near you..lol Indeed Craigslist can be a gold mine. Managed to find an entertainment armoire' 6.5 ft tall(comes apart in 2 pieces)that is covered in beveled mirror was l00.00 btw I said David Bromsfeld and I meant Bromstad or stud however you like to think of him. He is sooo very cute, too bad he plays on the other team! lol

  • @KissHope Thanks, Hope! Laughing so hard about your comments (playing for the other team BIG LOL on that one!!!). The sofa is going to Sag Harbor, NY this week and will be featured in one of the Hampton Designer Showhouse rooms! Have a wonderful summer day. All the best, Jay

  • one hipo? i like soo much the chair! and the color in the wall...nice..the table wood......oo second hipo...whay ivoire?

  • great job I like the lighting because seems very romantic, I like also the arm chair, the white chairs, the skyboards, Ilove the combination of dark wood and rich fabrics

  • @chlanga12345 Thanks so much for the compliments and watching! All the best, Jay

  • That is a fab sofa and has wonderful clean lines, I am not a fan of all the rolled rolls and backs you see today. You have wonderful taste. Just had my own David Bromsfeld help decorate my bedroom last night. Dark wood nightstands with chrome hardware, pear green/white comforter/shams with a smokey eggplant purple euro shams and tailored bed skirt. Small art deco mirrored covered dresser my best Craigslist find ever. Half the fun of decorating is doing with a bargain. Happy decorating.

  • @KissHope Congrats on scoring some treasures from Craigslist! There are some great finds there, right? Have a wonderful weekend.

  • Get yourself a small box turtle to get rid of the waterbugs. Btw I really think your is fabulous.

  • @KissHope Thanks! And love the idea of the box turtle. I think they're pretty cute.

  • You're welcome anytime in my NYC apt. I have all in one bedroom/kitchen/bathroom/closet, pet roaches and mice. We can even relax and smoke crack with my neighbors.

  • @KungFuChess lol Sounds like the best invitation I've had all year! (And I haven't learned the art of domesticating roaches yet.) The cool thing about NYC apartments is that they can be as fancy or as downlow as anything, but they all share the same huge waterbugs lurking around the bathtub. Those big guys are everywhere!

  • Jacobean Period is not 1700s.

  • @StreamConsciousness Quite true, and thanks for pointing this out. The late Jacobean Period was 1620-1660, and this early 1700s piece was influenced by late Jacobean furnituremaking. It would have been more correct to have said "late Jacobean style furniture from the early 1700s."

  • I like the dinning room chairs. Is it pricey to get a chair refurbished?

  • @kumitetoday The chairs are fun and were originally from B. Altman's department store (their in-store restaurant here in NYC). Recovering chairs cost-wise depends on the fabric you're using, the experience of the upholstery shop you're going with, and the number of tufts or buttons or trims you're working with. It can get pricey, but if you get the chairs for a song, then you can afford to recover/recondition them and still come out with less $ than new chairs.

  • very elegant!!!!! Bravo!!!

  • @xanna62 --blush-- Thanks!!!!

  • Nice

  • @Spaniard781 Thanks so much for watching!

  • whts thr on the wall abov bed-cum-sofa ??? by th wy GREAT JOB!!!!!

  • @zara1saif Thanks for watching and your kind words! What's above the sofa sleeper is a commissioned art piece consisting of six rows each consisting of six white glazed terracotta plates that slightly overlap one another. A Polish artist now living in Mexico City, Xawery Wolski, specializes in crafting amazing materials from glazed terracotta.

  • waw that's really nice living ,, Do you have any sources or sites to reffer to ?? thank you

  • @whafah Thanks for watching! We go to Design2Share a lot for decorating inspiration. They've got a great Links2Share page with tons of other websites on decorating and home decor, too. Good luck and have a fantastic day -- Best, Jay

  • What a beautiful place. I just love the molding in that space. Lovely.

  • @mariko1957 Thanks! The molding does help out a lot (before, it was a plain box).

  • relaxing place

  • Thanks for watching and your kind words! (I think the secret is the felt rug in the room; it deadens sound and makes the acoustics less harsh.)

  • Lovely space. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks so much for watching . . . and your kind words!

  • Nice overall but bad location because ther is no light.

I live in a house in brooklyn, ny and im taking out my desktop computer , tv and bed and painting the room a nice chromish coler and then putting a lighter bed with a new matress and buying a laptop to replace my desktop and my room will only be 1 bed and a closet and it will feel very fresh

  • Thanks for watching! Your decorating plans sound great; it's a great resolution to make your space fresh and lively for the new year. Best of luck. (One note about the lighting -- we shot this at night with the curtains closed and lights on, but during the day we get lots of great light; we're on a courtyard and it's very open. Thanks heavens! I agree with you that natural light is a huge part of any living space, the rule being, the more the better.)

  • Love the detailed chair, very nice.

  • The design is very nice. For Feng Shui, the living area should be brighter and having more Yang Qi.

  • Thank you for watching! Others have also commented on the lack of brightness, but during the day we open up all drapes and let the light stream in, which makes everything feel wonderful.

  • Yes. It would be nice to allow lights streaming in the room and generating some Yang Qi. Nevertheless, in the room, the lighting is so good.

  • Gorgeous living room...

  • this is VERY nice!

  • THANKS so much for watching and the kind words. Have a fantastic holiday.....!

  • great if you have lots of ffriends! see im a loner lol i love yo place though

  • Thanks for watching! The felt rug on the floor deadens the sound and makes for a coziness that's wonderful if you're all alone, like sitting down in a chair of laying out on the sofa to read a book or the newspaper. Very comfortable for hanging out.

  • nice place....i like it.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzvery boring live a little buddy........

  • ♥♥♥♥♥

  • wow very lucky! nicely decorated!

  • Thanks for watching and your kind words. We just looked at your My Studio vid, and what a great studio you've got! You must love that gorgeous glassed-in bump-out, adding great views and lots of sun into your space. Wow.

  • why do people do this? then you want to cry when they rob your house!!

  • It s a nice place, only the ceiling a bit kitch

  • Great place. I love how you have not sacrificed style for space. It makes the place look a lot bigger and great use of space. Space is a premium here in the UK too so love the fact that you have made such a beautiful room. Thanks for posting - steve.

  • Many thanks for the kind words, Steve!

  • Beautiful.

  • wow.

  • very nice Apartment man, classy decore,

    peace Bro

    Drew

  • Drew, many thanks for the kind words!!! Have a great weekend, and we're glad you love visiting NYC from beautiful CT (my sis lives in Westport and they have a blast there). All the Best, Jay

  • Yo!

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Thanks so much for watching and complimenting!

  • Your home is incredibly gorgeous and stylistic! I have dreampt of movie to NY for 9 yrs now (since I was 16) and I'm finally making it happen..I'd be so grateful to have a $900 dollar raunchy studio but THIS (your home) would be heaven! Hope you feel as blessed as I think you are! :D

  • You're so kind! Many thanks, and we really do feel blessed. The apartment has been a hobby and a pet project for over 16 years now, gradually coming together over time (definitely not overnight). The living room walls were pistachio green once, then they were ice blue once, and now they seem more settled being gray. The furniture changes around a lot, too. All fun! Have a great time in NYC. You will love every minute of it.

  • Lovely and elegant design, a calming and handsome space! Would you have any suggestions for using a right facing chaise sectional in a small apartment? The peices are independant of eachother so it could be separated. Please help!

  • You have a beatiful apartment

  • Thank you! And many thanks for watching.

  • That's really beautiful. The furnishing, flooring and everthing in your apartment is almost near to perfect. Can u provide me the actual size of living room, cause you arrange all luxury in compact space and makes it look like "royal" and I would be glad if you give me amount you spent in it.....regards, Tarun, New Delhi

  • Many thanks for watching, and for your kind words, too, Tarun! This living room is 13 feet by 22 feet, so it's really not too big, although it has the illusion of being larger. It would be difficult to estimate costs for decorating as the decorating process has gone on over the years....

  • it doesnt look lively and modern

  • What a great piece of art! I love how the furniture pieces from different time and culture all dance together in this small little apartment makes it truly a jewel box!

  • Thank you so much for watching, and your lovely compliments. I hope you have a wonderful day in beautiful Russia (we would love to visit your country some day!).

  • Amazing apartment! I wish I could live in NYC.

  • this sucks yall need to move to houston where youll get a nice big house for cheaper than your paying

  • Thanks for watching, and no offense to Houston (we love your city!), but New York is New York. You live here for the mix of excitement, non-stop entertainment, great lifestyle and cultural features, and a mix of people from all over the world. This apartment is actually rent controlled, so it costs only about $1,000/month, and the renters bought a house in rural Pennsylvania in a village of 400 people. A big house, lots of land, and only an hour's drive from NYC. So this doesn't suck at all!

  • I dream of living in New York City or Downtown Jersey City just to get that view of Manhattan. New York is a place where you run into some of the most strange, artistic, powerful, and beautiful people of all colors. I love it with a passion. New York is the air of art to me. I can appreciate its freedom of creativity.

  • Thanks for watching, Chevaan! You're right about NYC. It was great energy and spirit, and it's amazing the diversity of people and artistic pursuits here. I hope one day you will live and create beautiful accomplishments here, too!

  • Lovely apartment. Also you have so much class in your demeanor.

  • Many thanks for both compliments! Have a great day -- Best, Jay

  • That would be a great idea if it wasn't for all the Texans.

  • texasbeu2y u r a loser.houston has nothing to offer trust me I have lived there for a year and it is sssssssoooooooo bboriiiiinnnnggg like yall r the most boringest dullest people in the nation there is seriosly nothing to do over there maybe that is why yall are so dull and plain and have no personalities.NYC is the best city to live in.I rather live in a smaller apartment in a world renown world class city than a house in a terrible, suburban mess, flat, and extremely dull city like Houston

  • Very nice..eclectic mix of styles. I love NY,I visit at least twice a year.

  • David, thanks so much for watching and your kind comments. Where do you live in the States? (and thank you for visiting NYC so often; we love visitors!) Best, Jay

  • I live in DC,and am an aspiring interior decorator myself. I plan on posting some video of my own apt. when it's finally completed.

  • We can't wait to see your apartment! Be sure to let us know when you post it -- and happy holidays!

  • Will do...I have to purchase a decent video cam!..lol

  • Hey, you probably heard this many time but your small living room is nice. Just the fact of living in NYC...amazing. What is your job...if I may ask.

  • Many thanks. It took getting used to the smaller living spaces in NYC, moving from the Midwest (land of wide-open spaces). My partner is an interior designer and I'm a consultant, working for Internet and educational technology companies.

  • Hi, I live in a studio in the Lower East Side (400 square feet) and will start shopping around for a sofa bed. Would you please share where you got yours in your living room? I may have to splurge and get one just like it, it's beautiful.

  • Oops -- the company is now out of business, so it won't do us any good to recommend them. Try Carlisle Sofas; they may also have some lovely sleepers. Good luck!

  • this must be soooo expensive

  • Thanks for watching and commenting! The rent is not expensive at all, and we did work on the apartment over a period of years, so the expense was well paced. Many thanks!

  • i love the dining table where u get iit i have to get table for my living room

beautiful apt can u help me decorate lol

  • The dining room table is a Jacobean table, probably a Dutch antique from the 1600s, and it was found in an antique store in Cape Town, South Africa (South Africa has many beautiful Dutch or Cape Dutch antiques). LOL, we would be happy to decorate your apartment if you could fly us to your beautiful Virgin Islands! :>) Thanks so much for watching!

  • very spacious

  • Thank you, Mr. D! I appreciate your watching and commenting on this vid. I originally lived in the Midwest, where living space is vast. In NYC, however, apartments tend to be on the small side, so at first I felt like a little pea rattling around in a tiny box. Now that I've adjusted and made some better use of good storage and space-saving solutions, it does seem much more spacious to me, and the decorating gives more of a sense of height to the ceilings -- and that all helps a lot!

  • oh really? i think for a new york apartment it is objectively spacious as well^^ i've seen apartments that are way smaller in new york. u were very lucky to find a place like that. i dont dare to ask what u pay monthly for that place.

  • You're 100% correct that it's relatively larger than many NYC apartments, particularly the studio I used to live in (basically a glorified all-purpose room with a separate bath). This is a rent-controlled apartment and is under a third of the going rate of about $3500/month for the same size apartment, so it's a very fortunate situation for the next 10-15 years or so until the rent creeps up to where it can "go market."

  • for the size its a good price (depending, where in manhattan it is) but in general renting apartments in manhatten is ridiculosly expensive. the same size apartment would be a third of the price in new jersey

  • You're absolutely right that apartments are sky-high priced in Manhattan! And it's difficult to get an apartment here; it's almost like buying a house. This apartment is on the upper west side, which is now a hot area.

  • beautiful

  • Vee Eliza, thank you much for watching and your comment! And thank you for your great service to children and the way you give back to people in your community; now THAT's what I call "beautiful." After reading your bio, I am truly inspired.

  • oh i love your apartment! it's really cool. i'm jealous :P but i like my apartment too so it's okay

  • AnnaMcP, thanks so much for watching! I love your attitude about where you live; I enjoy other people's homes a lot, and sometimes my admiration borders a little bit on envy, but I'm always reminded of how much my apartment reflects how we live, who we are, and how it's just right for us and that balances everything out. I also like getting great ideas from where other people live, which can be very inspirational!

  • I am In love with the chair with the studs, It's beautiful, just my style.

  • Thanks for watching -- and commenting on our favorite chair, too! The studs, padded leather insets on the arms, beautifully turned spindles, and clean curves on the seat and back made this a must-have when we first saw it. (And you have wonderful taste, too; not only in this chair, but also in Depeche Mode!)

  • Wow what a nice apt. You've kept it really tasteful. I hope to move to Manhattan from here in England one day. You have some really nice things there, and your so lucky to have such a nice apartment in such a great area!!

  • Jamie, thanks so much! We happen to love England a lot (we haven't been to Newcastle yet), and the nice thing about Manhattan is that it's so easy to go back and forth between here and the UK. Thanks for watching and for all your kind words. Best, Jay

  • Absolutely Beautiful!

  • Thanks for watching, and thanks for your kind comment, Have a great day!

  • So, do you not have a television at all, then? You mentioned the stereo behind the drapes. Beautiful, but doesn't have that overdone look, meaning with expensive furniture. I would miss not having a fireplace.

  • wow:) i will die for that! you sooo lucky!what cost for that place? i know it would very crazy price! (sorry my english are bad)

  • Don't apologize for your English -- my vocabulary in other languages is VERY BAD. LOL The rent is "controlled" for this apartment, so it is very affordable, but this is rare in Manhattan. We are very fortunate to be living here. Thanks for watching, lemonly!! Best, Jay

  • Beautiful place. What a big place for NY. I live in Staten Island, I wish I could live in the city, but the prices are CRAZY!!! You lucky Dog.

  • Thanks for watching, and your kind words. My partner got this apartment many years ago, and it's rent controlled, so very affordable. This is rare, and we feel incredibly lucky! Many thanks for watching. Best, Jay
