why ds? this game was made originally for nintendo 64 but it lacked the memory capability so does ds. it is out on PSP if you buy it off the PSN so you can play it on the go despite having the discs still I plan to buy it and crisis core once I get a PSV
SquareEnix has messed up the series in recent years but the rumors of the remakes have been around since PS3 was a rumor. It's a hopeful dream for all the fans of 7 to see this day. The only thing i can really suggest though is asking the company through a series of petitions if there has not been a few already.

@OutlawCatx It took 12 years yes, but there were FOUR SEPARATE BUILDS/VERSIONS that were each scrapped. The version of DNF that was released, was made in 2 years by Gearbox. The other game you're prolly thinking of is Too Human and it took 10 years (or so) and was shitty so it was basically just that company's fault for sucking. Again, when companies put their resources into a game as their main focus, it would take 1.5-3 years (on average.)

SquareEnix have already remade alot of other Final Fantasy series on the DS like FF1, FF2, FF3, and FF4. The creator of FF7 has moved on to other projects, so its not a matter of difficultly in remaking FF7 by the creator then republishing by SquareEnix then releasing by Sony. @cloudtheavenger Not sure that they intended RE:CoM for an English release since it took about a year and a half to be brought over (the base KH games took far less time to be localized.) Besides, there's really not that much content in FM (either) to bother bringing over, if you want the secret movies (the real highlight) look online, the rest of the stuff is pretty underwhelming. Most Special Editions of RPGs in Japan are released to include the english audio for some reason anyway.

@cloudtheavenger Thats exactly what I'm saying. With a normal game schedule, in order to release just a few minutes after the Japanese release, they work alongside. Since FM+ (with RE:COM) came out in 2006 in Japan, but not until the end of 2008 in ENglish, they obviously did not start localizing until some tiem afterwards. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that fan demand had an impact in getting it localized.

I dont get it. I am perfectly happy with the PSone game, because what made FFVII really strong was the story, the characters, and the music! Ok, the unique steampunk-art design was really wonderful too, but still, in my opinion, there is no need for a remake. Just look at all the "Compilation"-stuff, especially Advent Children! It turned out to be a disappointment, because the plot was kinda cheap (by comparison) and the characters were left behind for the visuals/action
a remake on the DS would be more of a downgrade, the PSP would be a better fit ,plus i believe Sony owns the publishing right for FFVII and everything associated with it.
Of course I do. I'm one person. I alone could, say, do all the promotional work. SE has hundreds of employees in their Japanese branch alone. A breeze to port, an easy project to update. It doesn't really matter, since all of this is hypothetical, anyway.
maybe for the next 10 year anniversary or something like rerelease for next gen, they already released Dissadia for this anniversary so maybe for the next one they might consider a re-release.. as long as people anticipate it.. its money in the bank so they'll do it when they need to.

Actually I think it is pretty hard since Square have 3 final fantasy XIII projects on the go already and that the development costs for videogames especially on PS3 are very high so it's quite a gamble since there's going to be people who won't buy it purely because they've already won the original and/or have it downloaded to their PS3's

Games arent that hard to make brosef, if you had everyone at squareenix highly dedicated they could remake FF7 in about 6 months. (thats with updated graphics) Without updated graphics, just converting it to a new system prob about a month of dedicated work. These times are possible only when they know exactly what they want done, and planning has been finished. Games arent that hard to make...

Well in all fairness, its completely possible to put the game on DS. The DS has the graphics capability and since FFVII is only 1.3GB according to the version you mentioned, it can fit on a DS card, since they make them up to 2GB. So its possible. Now likely is another question of course.
Sony...let the game be released on their system. And that's about it. I'm not arguing that they may or may not have some kind of exclusive rights for VII, but they had no involvement in its creation.
A DS remake wouldn't be that hard. It would be basically the same except with voiced cutscenes as seen in the FFIV remake last year. I don't see why a graphical overhaul would be neccesary, the ds has greater graphical power than the N64, who's games always looked better than those of the PS1 up until about 2000 anyway. A remake wouldn't take long. With any luck Square Enix are slowly building up to it with the Remakes of FFIII and FFIV. If the trend continues, it may not be out of the question.
Hence why square doesn't remake. If they do they end up running the chance that people realize if you take FF7 and update the graphics there's really nothing that sets it apart from the other FF games. The driving force behind FF7 is the nostalgia factor as it was the first 3d RPG to hit the shelves and for many the first RPG they ever played period. Once the nostalgia is gone, it's just another FF game with the typical Bishonen cast. Probably shouldn't be counting on a remake any time soon.

FF7 is the best-selling FF game of all time with 9.8 million copies sold worldwide... that's 3.2 million more than the 2nd best-seller, FF10 which sold 6.6 million copies..

Umm....it would be totally awesome if they made it for the PS3 but not really for the Nintendo DS...not to be rude but it just wouldn't look all that great. Another thing, it takes YEARS to create a game like that! With all that programming, editing, and everything else! We'd be lucky if Square Enix decided to take all that time just so that we'd have a better versian of the game!

Don't get me wrong, but remaking FFVII is going to be a lot of work. Remember previous they were taking Nintendo or Super Nintendo games and bringing them onto Playstation/Gameboy and the DS with updates(especially DS) but remember that 7 was already "3-D" and remaking it again will take a lot of resources that is most likly dedicated to FF13 and FF-versus. Still if they remade FFVII for PS3, I would buy a PS3 in a heartbeat.

@cloudtheavenger Not sure that they intended RE:CoM for an English release since it took about a year and a half to be brought over (the base KH games took far less time to be localized.) Besides, there's really not that much content in FM (either) to bother bringing over, if you want the secret movies (the real highlight) look online, the rest of the stuff is pretty underwhelming. Most Special Editions of RPGs in Japan are released to include the english audio for some reason anyway.

@cloudtheavenger Thats exactly what I'm saying. With a normal game schedule, in order to release just a few minutes after the Japanese release, they work alongside. Since FM+ (with RE:COM) came out in 2006 in Japan, but not until the end of 2008 in ENglish, they obviously did not start localizing until some tiem afterwards. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that fan demand had an impact in getting it localized.

I dont get it. I am perfectly happy with the PSone game, because what made FFVII really strong was the story, the characters, and the music! Ok, the unique steampunk-art design was really wonderful too, but still, in my opinion, there is no need for a remake. Just look at all the "Compilation"-stuff, especially Advent Children! It turned out to be a disappointment, because the plot was kinda cheap (by comparison) and the characters were left behind for the visuals/action

maybe for the next 10 year anniversary or something like rerelease for next gen, they already released Dissadia for this anniversary so maybe for the next one they might consider a re-release.. as long as people anticipate it.. its money in the bank so they'll do it when they need to.

Actually I think it is pretty hard since Square have 3 final fantasy XIII projects on the go already and that the development costs for videogames especially on PS3 are very high so it's quite a gamble since there's going to be people who won't buy it purely because they've already won the original and/or have it downloaded to their PS3's

But sony has still yet to give it a system for aiming of any type, while the ds does. The ds is scheduled to be able to watch videos on youtube and hulu (through the use of an attachment) in late fall 2009. I still think its not just for kids.

The DS has many kids games and mature games because it reaches a broad spectrum and breaches into many diffferent genres and demographics, the psp and ds are both good consoles in their own respect, the psp is more powerful and the ds is more innovative and has better variety. They both have great exclusives so stop being such a fanboy please.

Games arent that hard to make brosef, if you had everyone at squareenix highly dedicated they could remake FF7 in about 6 months. (thats with updated graphics) Without updated graphics, just converting it to a new system prob about a month of dedicated work. These times are possible only when they know exactly what they want done, and planning has been finished. Games arent that hard to make...

Well in all fairness, its completely possible to put the game on DS. The DS has the graphics capability and since FFVII is only 1.3GB according to the version you mentioned, it can fit on a DS card, since they make them up to 2GB. So its possible. Now likely is another question of course.

A DS remake wouldn't be that hard. It would be basically the same except with voiced cutscenes as seen in the FFIV remake last year. I don't see why a graphical overhaul would be neccesary, the ds has greater graphical power than the N64, who's games always looked better than those of the PS1 up until about 2000 anyway. A remake wouldn't take long. With any luck Square Enix are slowly building up to it with the Remakes of FFIII and FFIV. If the trend continues, it may not be out of the question.

Hence why square doesn't remake. If they do they end up running the chance that people realize if you take FF7 and update the graphics there's really nothing that sets it apart from the other FF games. The driving force behind FF7 is the nostalgia factor as it was the first 3d RPG to hit the shelves and for many the first RPG they ever played period. Once the nostalgia is gone, it's just another FF game with the typical Bishonen cast. Probably shouldn't be counting on a remake any time soon.

Another thing, it takes YEARS to create a game like that! With all that programming, editing, and everything else! Don't get me wrong, but remaking FFVII is going to be a lot of work. Remember previous they were taking Nintendo or Super Nintendo games and bringing them onto Playstation/Gameboy and the DS with updates(especially DS) but remember that 7 was already "3-D" and remaking it again will take a lot of resources that is most likly dedicated to FF13 and FF-versus. Still if they remade FFVII for PS3, I would buy a PS3 in a heartbeat.
