Fear is a lie of the devil, just like other lies he tells...."For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7 God did not create us to have the spirit of fear, therefore it must be a lie that the devil deceives us into believing. If we fully trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior, then we should not fear, because He always takes care of us, even if it is not the way we want Him to do it.

@BipolarForJesus I don't think the authors were implying that fear does not exist. Of course it does. I think it goes back to the line right before that, which says "you don't *have to be* afraid", because God is "strong enough to save". So, yes, fear is real, fear exists, we just don't have to let it consume us or control us. Like David said "I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me."
@tthomaselli2 Ah, yes, Philippians 4:13. Before I retired I had a little plaque on my desk at work that sat next to my computer, and it had that verse. I remember one day my boss gave me an impossible assignment, and then said he wanted it done by the end of the day. I sat there in despair and my eye caught the plaque. A few minutes later a light bulb went on and I came up with an ingenious idea on how to complete the task, and it was done an hour later.
@BipolarForJesus Yes, fear is real! The Bible tells us that perfect love casts out all fear. Not our perfect love but Gods! So everytime we are afraid if we cry out His name He WILL cast out our fear because He loves us with a perfect love! Be of good courage..
@BipolarForJesus Being someone who has struggled with terrible fears her whole life, feeling like I've completely lost my mind at times, I see what you mean. However, there are many situations in which fear is CAUSED by a lie (i.e. there are monsters under my bed). The devil uses lies to cause fear in Christ-followers, such as "God doesn't love me" "God is holding His best from me" "I'm a disappointment to Him" "I'm alone dealing with my problems" "There's no way out of this" etc..
Something I've been learning lately is that most sins are actually caused by fear, caused be lies. e.g. Stealing is the fear of going without. Revenge is the fear that justice will not be done otherwise. Disobedience is the fear of being misguided, etc. But in Christ, those fears are no longer legitimate. You are given options of peace that the non-believer doesn't have. God will provide, perform justice, and He'll work everything out for your best. Just have faith :)
@BipolarForJesus i just watched a video blog about this very line from a guy from the band, and he explains that the line just means that fear isnt from God, everything that we fear is because of a lie that we have bought into from the devil. Yes fear is real, but it doesnt have to be if we trust God with the things that we fear

The line that states 'fear is just a lie' is WRONG. Fear is not just a lie! It is a REAL
feeling, not imagined, I know this from personal experience, for almost 60 years.
