Well think about it, if you did what Jimi did to a stock Strat (with no locking or anything), of course you guitar would go out of tune. Jimi handled it well and of course would stop between songs to tune up. Also, he tuned down a half step (Stevie Ray borrowed that from Jimi too) so that's a factor also

what matters is your effort mate. I guess you don't have to copy the entire song. Jimi is Jimi and there always one Jimi only. Make him as an inspiration and search and dig for your own style and technique...
