Two things to say to people who think curling is not a sport:

1. Play a full curling game- it is a very hard game that requires stamina to sweep the ice for hours (this is different from your janitors- have them sweep as hard as they can and speedwalk at the same time while doing calculations on where to sweep next) and excellent balance (you WILL slip and fall the first 50 times you try to throw a curling stone).

2. That shot was awesome!

For anyone else who doesn't consider curling to be a sport: The average human should consume over 1400 calories per day. In ONE curling game, a player burns around 1400 calories, and plays for up to 3 hours straight. As a curler, you burn all the calories you require in a day. Now play THREE of those games in a day.

To give you perspective, compare that to Hockey, where a player plays only for 10 minutes up to three times per game? Calories burned? No where close to 1400.

If I remember correctly, Michael Phelps took in12,000 calories a day while training for the Olympics (yes, I know that is an extreme example). It does depend on the sport and intensity of training what diet is best for someone, but you will probably need to take in more than 1400 a day if you are training vigorously.

The reason why it's so hard is because you have to throw the right weight AND hit the rocks at the right angles, 4 angles in total have to be perfect for the shot to be made. Just cause it didn't remove 5 rocks doesn't mean its not ha great shot

Having curled off and on for years, let me just say not only is it much harder than it looks, but curling Lead or 2nd means you're doing 2 miles on the ice while sweeping and trying not to fall on your ass! Besides, don't they consider golf and bowling sports? Certainly both are less demanding than this. But you probably think its worth millions of dollars per year for some goon to throw a ball through a hoop too!

Sweeping in curling is a lot harder than I think you imagine. Talk to a pro curler—they can work up a big sweat in a 2-1/2 hour game. Or check out the guys on TV—they're out of breath quite often after a hard sweep. They're melting ice with brooms, for crying out loud.

Of course there's more to basketball than running and throwing; I was making a point. And if you knew anything about science, you'd know that sweeping the ice creates friction, causing it to melt to water, reducing the friction under the rock so it can travel farther.
