My Mom took me to see this movie when it 1st came to the Theater where we lived. I was 10 years old. I ran out of the Theater into the hall when her head spun around and slept with the light on for many years after. This movie is the absolute scariest of all time. To this day it's still frieghtening to me.

She hears 2 people yelling, her daughter and the demon. She goes upstairs to find things blowing around the room from a strong wind... continued....

A dresser is moving towards the mom to retain her but she moves out of the way. The demons head spins 180 degrees and uses the voice of her mothers dead friend to ask the question, "Do you know what she did? Your cunting daughter?". The mother screams and it fades to her walking on a bridge as the scream fades in the distance.
@Whyville101 maybe it doesn't seem scary reading it, but it is an incredible scene. It's something no one would ever expect to see in any movie from that time. oh and that masturbation scene happens right after the mother runs into the room. She tries to take it away from the demon.

I saw this in the summer of 74. I expected it to be the scariest because of all the hype. Instead I laughed through a lot of it because I knew it was fake. Didn't even turn my head during the green vomit scene. I used humor as a defense mechanism I guess. To me the scariest movie I saw was "The Omen" Scary stuff plus it's written to happen in the book of revelations. The grossest movie I saw was "Mark of the devil" Any of you older folks rememeber that? "Stomach distress bags were given out.

Most people don't know that the demon face that is looking straight forward in this trailer is actually an infamous serial killer who tortured photographed and killed women in his basement. Detectives believe one of his victims actually took the photographs of him used in this trailer as she was trying to escape and use the flash as a means of seeing in the dark. Frightening to think that's the last face she ever saw.

@Whyville101 I don't know if you've watched the movie yet but here it goes: The masturbating scene isn't as graphic as it is shocking. It's got a double whammy of a shock! For 1: what she's doing with the cross. 2: what she says while using the cross. This happens after the mother is directing a guest out the door and hears a loud noise upstairs. She hears 2 people yelling, her daughter and the demon. She goes upstairs to find things blowing around the room from a strong wind... continued....

@Whyville101 The mother wrestles with the demon and is knocked down to the floor. An assistant sees this, but a chair slams itself against the door so she can't get in. A dresser is moving towards the mom to retain her but she moves out of the way. The demons head spins 180 degrees and uses the voice of her mothers dead friend to ask the question, "Do you know what she did? Your cunting daughter?". The mother screams and it fades to her walking on a bridge as the scream fades in the distance.

I have known many Catholic Priests over the years, including the Official Exorcist of The Diocese of Hexam and Newcastle. I once asked one priest I knew if he`d seen The Exorcist film. He said that he had. Me being young and daft then, I asked if it scared him. He looked at me non-plussed and replied, "No. Not in the least. I have been present at a real Exorcism, and it was extremely frightening." His very words.

I saw this in the summer of 74. I expected it to be the scariest because of all the hype. Instead I laughed through a lot of it because I knew it was fake. Didn't even turn my head during the green vomit scene. I used humor as a defense mechanism I guess. To me the scariest movie I saw was "The Omen" Scary stuff plus it's written to happen in the book of revelations. The grossest movie I saw was "Mark of the devil" Any of you older folks rememeber that? "Stomach distress bags were given out.
