Usually kids learn by Kindergarten, it's not nice to make fun of other people, or make fun of their skin color, whether they are white, brown, black, tan, whatever.
Perhaps Maureen Chao needs a refresher course in Kindergarten, common sense, & etiquette. Certainly, if I were surrounded by people of a different race, as a diplomat, I could never say anything that would be open to misinterpretation.

It was definitely a stupid thing to do...their skin color has nothing to do with their hygiene (unless they're seriously filthy, after all, look at rednecks). But yeah, riding those trains for that long, you're damned right everyone on board is dirty. They're poorly maintained rail systems through completely UNdeveloped wilderness. I read the original article, and in it she was praising her positive past experience in India, so I doubt her 'dirty dark' statement was ill intended, but rather just spoken out of context, as it would not be congruent with her other statements. She stated it clumsily, but not meant to be racist. Anyone with common sense can understand that. I swear the media will make a mountain out of a mole hill, in order to side step away from the real more pressing issues today.
