Lovitz comes no-where close to replacing Phil Hartman... Hartman was the PERFECT actor to play a radio news announcer, Lovitz is funny but not right for the part
I love the way Matthew falls in this ep, when he's tripped by bills harness cord, (him asking "what's happening to me" as he's being dragged is also hilarious), but i can't stop replaying that fall. I'de love to see a matthew falling compilation, might try to make one if i ever get the time. Anyway thank you SO much apocalyptichybrid2, forgot how much i love this show, very nice of you to put these up. Well back to watching.
I've seen this episode and a few other episodes a couple of times and I JUST noticed that the outside on this episode is different from the outside on atleast one other. On this one Dave's office window seems to be facing the street. On the day dreaming episode when Mr. James falls out of the window you can see another building is right across from Dave's office window.
"Dave Foley wears a wig for the first three or so episodes of the fourth season (that includes this episode). Foley's hair was cut short for the Tom Hanks miniseries From the Earth to the Moon. In the interest of continuity, the producers had a special wig made for him."
I have trouble watching any of the Lovitz episodes, they always remind me that Phil's gonna die and be replaced him later and then the show is going to end. Just bums me out for some reason.
@apocalyptichybrid2 I heard once (on E! I think) that Jon Lovitz beat the crap out of Andy Dick saying he'd killed Phil because he caused her wife to fall off the wagon by sharing drugs with her while she was trying to go clean. Know anything about that?
@Wafflepudding It happened but not to the extent being told. Lovitz and Dick were at a hollywood party and Lovitz hit Dick once after Dick continually got in his face while drunk, even though Lovitz did blame Dick for Phil's death at first this incident had nothing to do with it. Years after Phil's death the only person that still blames Dick for it is himself, in reality Phil's wife was the one who was solely responsible for his death and any moderately intelligent person would think the same.
@apocalyptichybrid2 just watched the "Our Fiftieth Episode" where Jon is in the mental institution when Phil is commited... and that "goodbye" scene was actually really touching; very real emotions expressed with very few words imo.
@SgtTravisBickle who cares phil sucked anyway the bill and jimmy are much funnier mathew is funny too oh wait i didnt mean bill i ment the underboss underneath jimmy
@dragonheadofthewest I'll never understand comments like this... you know you can actually delete things you've previously typed right? Oh wait, that's not what I meant to say... actually I just proofread what I typed and realized that's exactly what I meant to say... and therefore didn't delete anything.
@SgtTravisBickle yea i was wrong anyway.. i hate dave too he somehow i dont know why reminds me of that construction worker i hate, even so he looks different.... yeah mathew is funnier that i thought.. i never know he could play other roles so well.. like the played that punk with that typical english accent just awesoem... but seriously phil hartman was pretty lame...
@SgtTravisBickle and stephen root is da shit... shame we dont see him in the movies.. he and john goodman represented the cool america so much, shame we only see gays like matt damon and that kind of bull
You gotta admire how well Dave has adapted to the bizarre when stuff like this goes on.

I love when Joe says, "Brace yourself" and Bill puts his hands on his knees and sticks his ass out. Priceless!

This show never got the credit it deserved...kinda like a modern-day WKRP, another great but underappreciated sitcom!
Oh, and I love Stephen Root's cell phone at 3:50

I love that part when Andy Dick was all like "what's happening to me" getting dragged across the floor.

so here's an odd observation: starting in this episode, dave foley parts his hair on the right side instead of the left. personality shift?
sopamaggie85 3 years ago
Is this when he started wearing the wig? I know he had to for a bit because he got his hair cut really short for a movie.

Just found this on the Newsradio Episode Guide...
"Dave Foley wears a wig for the first three or so episodes of the fourth season (that includes this episode). Foley's hair was cut short for the Tom Hanks miniseries From the Earth to the Moon. In the interest of continuity, the producers had a special wig made for him."

Honestly, this is one of my favorite episodes, but I understand what you mean.
Phil and Jon were very close in real life and just know that this episode was one of Phil Hartman's favorite to act in.

It is a great episode, but it's somewhat bittersweet for me.
