Search the terms "Gang Stalking" and "Community Stalking" on the net and you will see that the bigots and sociopaths today are using the same tactics as shown in this film, they just hide their harassment a bit better and use upgraded technology in their games. But at the root of it, it's all the same story. This film is a treasure, and should be shown in schools as a requirement.
We're all slaves, in one fashion or another. If we were free we wouldn't be tied to the land like serfs. We have the illusion of freedom, yeah, you can drive hundreds of miles in a single day. But you always have to come back.
Perhaps my favorite scene of any movie of all-time. Jack's speech is pure truth and illustrates how much bullshit comes from the government(both parties included). The USA was founded on the search for freedom but is now bent on keeping EVERYONE a slave to the system. Try living as a truely free individual and see how fast they throw your ass in jail.
drunk on booze, high on grass. Thats what makes us speak the fuckin truth! Freedom is not about going to church on sunday, owning a caddilac and got your ass sold on the market every week. Freedom is about real spiritual freedom. Fight for your freedom, go travel, go enjoy. And dont let those conservative fucks ever got a hold of you. Than it's too late.
This is scene is so brilliant! Jack is so right! God bless Dennis Hopper, he really went to the extremes and always lived life to the fullest. He was a badass to the end. Great film, great directing, Dennis Hopper is riding his motorcycle with the angels.
He's right...you know. there is no freedom in this country.
me...about as "average joe" looking as a white man can get is looked at with suspicion while going through or even just walking through any neighborhood with a distinctive baseball cap to shield my face on a hot day! we've come to fear everyone and everything. distrust, fear, and suspicion. not all countries are like this.
Presume this great dialog was written by Terry Southern, and over Hopper's head in 1969. Quite prescient in retrospect, as we appear more and more the chatttel (at various degrees of comfort) of some unnamed's fief. A truly great and distrubing movie from a disturbing time.
Outlaw Bikers for ever , closest thing to Real Freedom .

When you put ALL society problems in a nutshell,
than this dialogue sums up the result of it in an even
tighter nutshell. It is essential.
Take your time and watch it again.
And then again!

The most thoughtful dialogue of Easy Rider, although there are other gems. Regards.
