it would be nice if you mentioned that the purple sling star is only there when u feed one of the guys 50 star bits and in order to get that many be sure to collect as many as u can in the begining.

You have to hit all seven (and each afterward) without touching the ground. There'd be no challenge otherwise!

Right where I take the Warp Star to hop there, there was a Hungry Luma-whatsit. Feed it and BOOM, the Yoshi head appears!

It's considered a secret star because it does not normally appear on the Star List as you play through the level. That being said, it is perhaps the most easily found Secret Star.

(There also used to be a Hungry Luma where that Warp Star is)
