@Bigz568 im guesin that vinyl is dying, and DMC no longer draws as much of a crowd/attention as it once did. digital is takin over, & with this method they keep their name going. @ £5 per entry, seems like a nice lil money maker too. plus the winner of the online comp would have to use a setup approved by DMC.... or just play their winning vid live at the finals
@Bigz568 and yup, ean is controlling the tempo. and most likely quantized within traktor. my point was more at this. what skill is there when doin this? hours of mappin a controller and settin cue points to juggle them, & then label ursef something as retarded at a "controllerist"?
@myballsareunited its simple.. talentless jokers! contollerism sucks ass. tunrntablism = win. actual skill with manipualting audio with human movement/motor skills. controlerism = FAIL. pressing buttons triggering audio thats sync'd to a clock determinded by a program and samplin shit on top of shit??!! controlerism totally sucks. its a joke. how can someone label themself with a title for doin shit like this. this shit is a fkn joke!
@myballsareunited well like obviously. however, there is logic in my opinion. i use/map controllers, effects. i cut up samples and mash them up, as do many other ppl. however, i dont label myself as a "controllerist". imvho, i dont see the point of calling myself, or anyone else calling themselves a controllerist. especially when its coined with turntablism. 2 very diiferent things. one = actual skill. the other, a controller & if u dont have the brains... mappings from djtt for a price, ofc.
@industyle That would be very similar to saying a producer has no skill as opposed to someone who plays live music. It still takes knowledge in productions to map your sets and DJ Shiftee himself has stated that theres virtually no difference between scrathing on an S4 (a controller) and using technics 1200's.
@myballsareunited not my argument at all. there are some rly cool things that ppl are doing with digital djing, and ppl have been doin it for some time now... its the way ppl label themselves. it just seems like a gimick which ppl are buying into...and someones cashing in on it.
i agree that the S4 is pretty damn good at mimicking TT's, but i found the jogs to slip a bit when scratchin, or maybe this was due to some tech issue with the unit i used.
interesting how the midi fighter was used as a "bass" and the vinyl was used more like a lead guitar. I am positive this can be used vice versa as well, and may have spawned a whole new generation of music to be made...whoever says a dj is not a musician obviously doesn't know anything about being a true dj.
@joeyr1331 possibly, but i dont think it'd work as well. bass is generally used for keeping the beat, so if you were going to use vinyl to keep the beat, then it would mostly just be having a bass line loop with a few changes added in now and again. lead guitar is allowed much more freedom of expression in songs and so you can use vinyl a lot more effectively the way q-bert did. thats my view on it anyway
Yup- I have a lot of samples :) just thought it would be cool to go back and use the same samples from my original Japan video that kind of started in all.
its fun to see how many different tones and sounds you can get from one simple group of sounds. Look how much the "freshhhh" sample has been re-worked over the years.
@sonnybrown If you are referring to Qbert. The dude is mad healthy. Strict vegan diet, and if I am not mistaken he doesn't smoke or drink and does yoga.
@raitei202 for real. I was getting into DJing back then at 15 years old watching vids of him winning DMC championships. I've grownup since then and he LOOKS THE SAME. OMG
@MrBlackwoodTV yes... ? I look young for 32. But homie is 41, and he looks younger than me and lot's of people I know in their 20's. That's like a riff in the time continuum or sumthin.

If by any chance in your infinite wisdom, why is DMC placing an ONLINE COMPETITION for ANY TYPE of control?!?!?
Your sync'ed midi clock is a fail due to the fact that Ean is controlling tempo, not Q (which I already know of his accomplishments).
Did you even read or see the article? . . .Stop posing like you're somebody and stfu. . .
