  • I am very much enjoying all you have posted. Please keep them coming! Are there any of the SamHillBand live?

  • I really enjoyed that, I loved the facal expressions, like the "oh-shit tricky chord stretch bit" made the vid for me, great sound I have to say.

  • Hey Mark! I always enjoy watching your videos! Can you upload a video showing how to add a global boost for solos using the AXE FX? I own one and can't seem to get a clean solo boost that doesn't alter the original tone I'm using! Thanks!

  • Playing my song!

  • How does this compare to the Amplitube StompIO unit and the Boss GT-10???

I have both of them but Im looking at the AxeFx Ultra too if there is a big diffrence.

I have never seen them compared on YouTube. I wish someone would.

  • Holy Cow Eddy Move over LOL

  • cool dude

  • Nice!

  • Asewoome Cover!

  • Brilliant playing fella. Its about the power chords and the rythmn, not just the tap frenzies.

  • great video, do you think the Suhr is good for metal? Are you trying to emulate eddie's tone exactly , or just get close? thanks for sharing.

  • @vitalizer1000 Never said I was versatile. I see you joined on Sept 4 to start the hate rants, bye, bye again. Cya. Get a job or something or at least post a video to your own supreme awesomeness. Take a trip to the South Pole and stay outside for the winter perhaps.

  • @vitalizer1000 What's up with dissing this guy...... he's awesome................check out the other vids.He plays loads of stuff :-)

  • @vitalizer1000 Thats not very nice mate.

  • Im on the waiting list! I have a 5150III and a Marshall Vintage/Modern mixed with some Lexicon and a Rocktron Xpression also a Sonic Maximizer. Two EVH Cabs) I think still Modeling feels different than the real thing but the sound is a Blast!! I wan tthis unit for it's effects and then to record with my computer too. Won't need nothing else!

Thanks for showing us this! What amp patch is this?

  • Man, you rock. I tried a version using POD HD 500 and 11R. But Axe FX is killer. Awesome Job.

  • EXCELLENT!

  • I like the aging tired rock star rehabilitated EVH fan look :)D

    ...time-keeping's very bad

But great sound coming from the AXE

    Just an opinion :)

  • I LIKE IT!

  • Sick playing! I love that authentic 80's "Waggle" vibrato you get going there. And the geetar faces are the best! Thanks for posting! Subscribed

  • @1977BanditTransAM lol, i have never noticed that before

  • Adam? from mythbusters?

  • Fantastic playing: like your hot faces:)))

  • wow man, I lost my voice

  • extra nice guitar :) great playing!

  • Dude got some mojo..

  • Awsome Solo and patch! What are the exact effects in the patch that you are using if dont mind me asking?

  • @G71ish Just a little delay and reverb. Probably 500ms or 320ms and a plate reverb around 2.1 secs

    Mark

  • Right on man! Good job and great sounds!

  • Great vids.

I've yet to see a demo with a Suhr guitar that didn't sound killer. The Ax FX obviously is part of the equation too, but if you had to pick one or the other, would you keep the Suhr or the Ax FX?

  • Yea they would never be able to tell.

  • Hey I need help getting those pinch harmonics down. Like the ones you don't use the metal part of the fret for. I'm really close I just can't seem to get it to sound perfect.

  • That Suhr is absolutely killer.

    And kiler Axe Fx tone!

i'm assuming you're using the "The Brown Sound" or the Marsha BE for this one? the tone is pretty spot on..

  • man ur good i am learning to play i will be watching ur vids

  • I have an Axe FX inbound and I just found your videos. Great tone, technique and sense of humour!

  • Dude - you rock. Don't mind the haters. It's easy for them to throw rocks when they're not doing anything. I love your vids and you're a great player.

  • Dude!! Your tone is monsterous!! I gotta get me an Axe Fx. I tracked with it once at a studio. Just a glorious sound. The thing I noticed the most is that it seems to really capture the brightness and the overtones of the strings... as opposed to just reintegrating the frequencies.... Does that make any sense? The nuances and the overtones of the instrument... Just love it! You make it sound great.

  • Great tone but you totally ruin the intro. I recommend listen more to the original

  • @BoogieEngineer I guessed you missed the description where I said I knew I screwed up the intro. The backing track's click got messed up. Please show us how it's done :)

  • @samhillband Nevermind I just noticed that you have no uploads...imagine that..lol.

  • @samhillband LMAO @ this! Classic critic right there. AxeFx sounds awsome btw.

    Peace, mdt

  • @samhillband I love it:) You did just fine and it did sound just a bit out of sync not that your playing was bad - I love your videos and choice of music. The guitar is great as is your tone. Keep it up. I appreciated it even if not everyone else dose.

  • @JWunderli

I should really just do this one over again, I rushed doing the video and learning the tune. I'm learning to be a bit more patient.

  • @samhillband I do that all the time :)

  • @samhillband I love it:) You did just fine and it did sound just a bit out of sync not that your playing was bad - I love your videos and choice of music. The guitar is great as is your tone. Keep it up. I appreciated it even if not everyone else does.

  • @samhillband ;)

    Awesome reply Mark! :)

  • hi! was wondering how you run AxeFx through pro tools? is it like running a plugin? example reason? plz help! im interested in buying an AxeFX!

  • @PortalRealm Not a plugin. The AxeFx has two low imp outputs (3pin) and I plug that into the Digi003 or a mic preamp. Just like I would with a microphone or direct box or a line out from an amp.

    Mark

  • Great song and great Playing......So you are tuned half step down? are all the songs you play in Half step down on the original Artist? or what do you do because i see that you almost always use your Biutiful Suhr and rarely play another one,.. i know Van Halen is Half step down on many songs (i dont know if on every song) but how about the other band songs you play?

    Ramiro

  • @rsaenzs

My Suhr is tuned 1/2 step down. I play the songs in the basic positions as the originals. Some of the original recordings were 1/2 step down and others are A=440hz.

If I use my LP or PRS some songs I've down are regular tuning and some are 1/2 step down.

    Hope this helps :)

  • Perfect cover man :)

  • TOO COOL! :-)

  • Man, This is BROWN SOUND! Did you create these presets?

  • @renatolbs Yes I created them. I always share them on the Axechange within the AxeFx Editor :)

  • your faces are priceless.. I make the same ones when jamming and messing up haha.. awesome.. can't wait to get my axe fx ultra.. thats gonna be a minute though..

just blew my wad on my brand spanking new Ibanez RGD 2127z Prestige with blackouts :D.. and Michael Amott Zoom pedal :D

  • Hi, why do you run the axe fx through pro tools ? do you use pro toold live also ???

  • @jem7772 I plug into a Joe Meek Mic preamp from the direct Out on the AxeFx, then that goes to the ProTools interface so I can record :)

I now use an Apogee Duet and Logic. No I don't use PT's or a DAW live :)

  • Are you sponsored by Fractal Audio?

  • @kirtaphus I am an official Fractal Artist. Every Artist still pays for their AxeFx stuff, even the "really" famous ones :)

  • What is this patch called on the new editor? Thanks.

  • @jackbad2 I believe it is on Bank J under Mark's or Mark Day

  • @samhillband hey Mark, a suggestion, could you provide the setting you are using in your videos ie; name of the patch or pre set on the axe fx, that would be very helpful, keep rockin bro.

  • NI POD X3 NI BERGAS....ESTE CACHARRO ES LA POLLA!

  • i just hope things like axefx will be soon more available :-/

  • Holy crap! That's the best digital sim I've heard that sounds worthwhile. I stumbled on your demo while researching an Eleven Rack and I'm blown away by how much better this sounded. Does the AxeFx have software that allows you to tweak it like the Eleven? All I can say is 'Wow!' I'm just blown away. Great tone and REALLY great playing. Too bad you're not in Milwaukee. I'd sign up for lessons in heartbeat. You should consider video lessons by subscription. Just...Wow. Nice job, man.

  • @2GoldensTosa We can do video lessons by Skype. Yes the AxeFx has a PC/Mac editor.

  • any chance of getting a tab for this? iv seen a few and i cant get it to sound as good as this.

  • That tone sounds amazing.

AxeFX really is something special, isn't it?

  • That isn't a Stagg is it?

  • @ShortFingeredShreder its suhr :)

  • @ShortFingeredShreder The guitar?? It's a Suhr :)

  • Rock on \m/

One of the better covers of this fine song out there.

  • Damn dude, that tone is killer, and the playing helps it along as well. Timing, well, you werent rehearsing to replace Eddie, so, I dont think the timing was an issue as this point. lol

  • every axe fx vid I hear has that scratchy sounding attack on the note unique to axe fx

  • hey, how much is the AxeFx?

  • nice one!!

  • Wow great tone, you sure have that axefx dialed in perfectly.

  • Hey mark... thinking of getting an axe fx.. Do you think the standard would be fine for me... I'm not really to into effects at all and I just want a banging good rhythm and lead tone.

  • how much do you want for that patch? wow it sounds amazing. I have been trying with a Van Halen patch for two months now and no joy, at least not like that!

  • @mohosapedapetalon

It's free and available on the AxeChange tab of the new editor.

    Mark

  • @samhillband thanks so much... keep on rockin!

  • @samhillband @samhillband thanks so much... what do you do if the tab for axechange is not clickable? keep on rockin!

  • @mohosapedapetalon Not sure why that is?

Do you have the latest editor?

    Mark

  • @samhillband yeah, its just not working for me! thanks for the preset by the way!

  • @samhillband i got it sorted in the end thanks mate.

I got your preset and it rocks but you have your own global settings I have the sys file but no idea how to amalgamate that into my preset on the axe.!

    Any ideas more than welcome~!

    Thanks again

  • Great cover! Your playing is really tight, which is great, and your tone is rockin' too... cut back on the bass, boost the mids alot and the treble a little and you should be pretty close to the "eddie" tone! Rock on!

  • whats up Adam Savage

  • @dumapies

    LOL yes!

  • axefx is awesome....what kinda distortion is that supposed to be, is there a certain pedal or amp its modeling?

  • you ROOOOOOCKKKK!!!!! what is that black guitar with the trem? please do a demo with tha one

  • @rsaenzs

It's an Indie Gotoh Floyd, great guitar...I have several demos on my Gear Channel YT

    Mark

  • on your comment...still sounds good. Nice tone and playing!

  • Great sound samhillband !!!

  • Very well done!!! YEAH! =0)

  • lol.. you're not counting wrong.. the backing track just starts too late :D

  • Yeah, what the heck? Weird...but you're an excellent guitarist and the tone is wonderful.

  • Hi Mark.. amazing tone. would it be possible for you to share with me your Van Halen Patches? for the axe fx Ultra?

  • Cool cover

  • Of course it's not "as good" as the real amp, but then again you have access to hundreds of different tones, to reproduce that with the real amp would require you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It's a tool, like any other musical device, it's not meant to replace EVERYTHING, instead it's supposed to do a job, which it does better than anything else on the market.

  • Awesome cover also is that an Axcess in the background?

  • jajajaja you are my hero jajaj you are GREAT (sorry I am a chilean guy my english is not good)

  • All you guys want to argue... But if you didn't know this guy wasn't playin' an Axe FX you would be asking... What kind of AMP are you using.. You Tube Snobs would never be able to tell the difference via Youtube or in a real setting... sorry..

  • @kidd94 say word

  • @kidd94 Not really because this doesn't sound much better than what you can do with a PODXT.

  • Loving the clean patch Mark, can we get some more gain please :D

    HRI Brother Andy_D

  • I have a question about the Edirol recorder. Is that what is recording the guitar tone from the cabinets and it's all the way across the room, or do you record the ambient, room volume with the Edirol and also record the cabs with a mic and mix the two together? Just wondering because it sounds great and I am just curious. The Edirol seems like an expensive version of that Zoom recorder with the condenser mics on it. Great tones as always man. Thanks.

  • mainlymusicman, $1000 says you couldn't pass a blind test

  • you mean on a recording or in person? i had the axefx for almost 2 years. in person, a real marshall or mesa head through a cab blows the axefx away. ive heard lots of clips where line 6 stuff sounds just as good as, sometimes better than the axefx. the thing really isnt all its cracked up to be IMO

  • And you're certainly entitled to your opinion - I just think it worth noting that pros from Lincoln Brewster, Hadley, Pete Thorn, Greg Howe to Dweezil Zappa beg to differ. I understand that your experience differed from the norm, but don't imply that the pros are simply confused or compromised.

  • my opinion not the norm? you make it sound like the majority of pros are using the axefx instead of a real amp!!

id bet that if 95% of the pros out there tried the axefx live compared to a real amp, theyd pick the tube amp. really, are you trying to say that the axe actually equals a real amp in a live situation? please tell me youre not. yeah so a handful of guys are using the thing, i bet its for other reasons that make it an acceptable tradeoff to a real amp, but it aint the tone!

  • I've replied via private message as to relieve other viewers of our back and forth debacle.

  • Out on a limb but I'll agree with you in this case. Did a gig with 4 bands. I had an axe fx w/ Vht power amp w 1960A cab. My tone was good. The next bands had Roadkings, 2203, and an Einstein Deizel. My Axe fx was good. Since I sat back to watch the other bands, their stage amps were much better. I used to think Axe fx was as good, but not after that gig.

  • I wish you could hear my rig live :)

    Mark

  • Mark, is there a less expensive line mixer like the Mini Mix out there, or would that be a waste of time?

    Oh yeah, nice playing!

  • Mark, truly enjoy your playing, your tone, and I find each of your videos entertaining. I look forward to each and every new video.

  • great tone, i am itching to try the blackout AHB-2..which model do you use?

  • I'm using the AHB1's

    Mark

  • great great great sound

  • Serious fat tone.

  • Love your videos as usual Mark. You are a killer player. The Axe FX seems overly synthetic sounding on this clip. Did you change your settings?

  • Yeah I thought something similar, in other clips it sounded more real. Maybe it's a bit too much Pitch Fx or gain or room or something.

  • Mark, where's the battery for the Blackouts located? In the control cavity?

  • Killer as Usual! What are the delay settings your using. The fit perfect.

  • Mark, why oh why did you have to post this...and torment me!? I have nothing but a PODxt to play into right now, that AxeFX rig is DISGUSTINGLY good, especially on my favorite song to play when I just want to "ease the seat back" and relax...

  • Most excellent!

  • Loved it!!

How many Suhr shirts have you got? or do you just wash that one a lot :D!!!

  • I have a few...lol

    Mark

  • killer tone :Q_

  • Hey Mark you make it sound mean I like it.

  • Good playing, Dad!

  • shut the fuck up

  • pm me and we will deal with this , ginger virgin.

  • ahahha

  • excellent vid as always - this time with excellent "face" voicings

  • Sounds monster! Dead right on! Hope you play this live with Sam hill.

  • this is so funny when he does face expression n his sense of humor....

  • Nice playing, Awsome sound

    Thanks Mark :) .

  • Sounds great as always Mark. Loving the tone!

  • Nice one - love your sound.

  • kick ass as always Mark...

  • Liked it a lot.

  • sounds bang on to me :D

  • Mark your facial expressions are killing me! =)

  • Damn that´s a nice guitar!!!

    And great playing :) !

  • Awesome playing Mark. Would you recommend the AxeFx for gigging purposes over a high-watt tube head in terms of being able to carry it around and hooking it up?

  • I am currently gigging with the AxeFx through two 2x12" cabs and an ART SLA2 poweramp...great tone and very loud!!!

    Mark
