I very much appreciate ur informational video. I wasnt even aware of menstral control items other than the traditional tampons or pads. I have myself and 2 daughters to consider options for when bugging out and this just made things so much easier. Thank u so much! Many blessings to u during ur trials as well. :)
For storage of the menstrual cup- actually, instead of a plastic bag (which has a chance of growing bacteria if there's humidity in the bag) I'd suggest a cloth bag made of waterproof-breathable fabric.I'm not aware of a product for that- but it's easy enough to sew. Also... said a prayer for you, it's nearly a year later, but every little bit, right?
Thanks for the informative vid. Luckily I had a hysterectomy a few years ago when i was 37, but I do have a daughter in her mid twenties. I agree with you, pads & tampons take up a lot of space. I vacuumed sealed boxes of sanitary napkins & tampons, yet space is an issue for bugging out. I appreciate your advise on the moon cups & will order a few ( I have an infant granddaughter that will probably need it when SHTF is here she'll be in her teens God willing)
OHMYGOD , I was really embarassed to watch this video but the womans period does exist . However you were quite clinical and so I'll live . Now when the shtf I am one of the ones that needs to survive (like you) so I can show others--good guys-- what I know , which is mainly food and water , EASILY procured in forest enviros' . But you mentioned this 'brittle diabetic' thing and now I'm not so sure of my ability to survive shtf . Nuuuurse help a brother out :) adios friend... fabian strategy .
I have a fused spine - the diva cup was almost impossible for me to remove because you have to be able to squeeze it to break suction. Just letting you know. There is another cup by "Instead" that is easier for someone with back issues to insert and remove. Also, there are sponges you can use, but only if you have access to water. Thanks for the info!
I am a 52 yo male (with an 18 yo daughter) and I just purchased (for my kits) one dozen micro-fiber cleaning cloths, which measure 16"x16". ... For me? ...They are intended for multi uses but one use was for backup "butt-rags" for when my mobile TP supply runs out. ... So ... having just seen this/your feminine hygene vid, I am wondering your thots on the (level of) suitability of these micro-fiber hand-towels (large wash-cloths) for as re-usable menstration pads. ??
I've been thinking about this for awhile on how to prepare for it. And I am SO glad you did a video about it. Also, I know this was posted back in March and its now Sept; however, I will be more then happy to pray for you. :D

New subscriber here. Thanks for addressing this issue. Katrina was an eye opener for me and I have been prepping as a result. I can't fathom what to expect in a SHTF situation but will continue to watch your vids to help me prep wisely
awesome video. I remember asking my grandmother what they did for periods back in the day. She used the "rag" method but didn't just wash them afterwards they were boiled before reuse. I love the moon cup idea. Thank you so much for the information!
Video was great. Due to a very prolapsed uterus I cannot use the cup, but the gladrags are definitely out of my price range. Gonna have to look for other options :(
Aloha and mohalo for the data on this PN. I'm a California prepper with three women a wife and two daughters 24 and 25 and have been considering this issue. Glad for the info, I will definately bring these data points up at our next family meeting. And I will indeed pray for you, difficult times do hit hit all love

I was just wondering if you can post more baby info? I am 19, so this collapse is happening relatively early in my life and childcare is something I have no expierence with and a possibility in my future. Thanks so much :D

great video an ideas. like i had mentioned elsewhere was i hadnt given a long term situation any attention when it came to my feminine needs. i want to add now that i think about it. what about things like cystis and yeast problems when situations may not permit us to as cleanly as we are use too?
I personally highly recommend this product. after seeing this vid, I ordered one on amazon. they're about $25. tips: practice using it b4 your time, n b4 SHFT so you know what it's like. it's really not that hard, I actually prefer it now. It SERIOUSLY helps with cramps. and feels no dif then a tampon.Make sure you order the silicone cup. They cannot grow bacteria, therefore in a rinse only situation, your still good till you can properly clean it. Thanks PN! been looking for a shft solution.
Haven't had a problem since and I'll never go back to pads/tampons again. Those that want more info on them can find plenty of vids here on YouTube dealing with comparisons of brands and use. Thanks again Patriot Nurse!
Awesome vid as usual! I never gave this much thought myself as I have the Diva Cup brand silcone cup. I've been using it for the last 2 years. It looks very similar to the Moon Cup. I found quickly though that the stem was highly irritating so I cut it off. (Recommended by manufactuer if it's too long.)
I got a cup but it looks too big. I got the larger size because I am over 30 and it tends to be heavy, but eeewww. I've never had kids and It just looks too big. I've just got it in case but I'm not using it yet.
I'm buying one of these now on Amazon! They are much cheaper ( 20-25$), MAKE SURE ladies you check out menstrualcupinfo here on YT. Bc there are several different sizes and things to know! I think only the Diva Cup and Moon Cup are sold in the USA.
You are Awesome! Thanks so much for making these videos. That is GREAT info. I am 23 and actually stored about 500$ if not more worth of tampons alone three or four years ago. It was really ridiculous but I did use them. This is great. I've got some girls on our survival team and this is what we need to know. Thanks for speaking out! I admire you. Will be praying for you, and hope the mentioned situation has already subsided :) thanks again.
finally found someone talking about womens issues! I've never seen that cup thing before...do you have to wear something light with that, or does it seal completely?
I have been using a diva cup in combination with glad rags (just as a liner) for about 2 years now. It works great for me and I love that I'm not contributing to the massive land fills every month. Some people think it's 'grosser' than disposable options, but I feel it's much cleaner, easier and cheaper, and most people feel the same after a couple months of trying some kind of vaginal cup.
Thanks for bringing this topic up! Wishing you the best with everything going on!!
been using reusable pads/diva cup for years. thanks for bringing it up. no one ever talks about it. i guess they think periods just go away once shtf! lol. :)
cool video- the pioneers are all like "doh" we were washing out all those rags! Have you tried it? Just wondering how often you'd have to change it a day? I don't know why this isn't marketed even for the reg. consumer- omg tampons are expensive!
Thank you for this! I've watched your other videos and they are great.... but this one is something I didn't really think about. I think I'm going to get a moon cup to use now, actually. I hate having to worry about if I'm going to run out of tampons, etc. The glad rags products look very practical, and I can't believe I haven't heard of them until now!
Thanks for the great info., I have used maxi pads in the past for dressings when I had nothing else around and they worked great. Am sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers your way!
I was wondering if you would put together a video regarding iodine/iodide dosages to give children if in case of nuclear mishap? Also, what the best kind/name brands would be to use? Also, what amount of dosages to give children and adults. I have a 2 year old and was wondering about this. Thanks and keep up the good work. Thanks,
Great vid! This is an important topic that people don't really think of. I can't even get family or friends to stop and consider the long term 'what are you gonna do?'. As always, another great topic. Thanks and take care.
Moon cup, hell! Its a silicone TUBA MOUTHPIECE, LOL. Brightest blessings, my friend. Thank you for addressing a subject most of the "other" (male) preppers are too squeamish to deal with.
Brightest blessings for you and yours, my friend. Period-wise, I lean more towards the GladRags approach. Being a larger woman, wrestling that cup in and out was just too comical for words. So now I roll up an old blue mechanic auto shop rag(s) and call it a go. Added bonus: the more times they are washed, the softer they get! Thanks for tackling an important topic that men don't like to discuss.
Thank you for this videos and the others you have posted, Patriot Nurse. I'm sorry that you are having a difficult time. Here is a verse for you: "These things I have spoken unto you so that in me you might have peace. In the word, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world." I'll say a prayer for you.
Keep up the good work, lady! I'm a fan of the "Keeper" myself. I've tried both the latex and the silicone varieties, and appreciate the longer stem (the Diva Cup was impossible to remove!!!). I won't be going back to disposables anytime soon. Plus, the "disposable" life is just wasteful. Thanks so much for your great videos and your upbeat delivery on these most difficult topics. I sure do appreciate your hard work and concern. Blessings, Anne

Hello PN! First, may good things come your way while you are going through your challenges. I pray things get easier for you.
I have to say that I love my glad rags! I use them almost every day because I am at that stage that my body doesn't know when it wants to go into its cycle. So it is comfortable enough to wear every day. It took a little getting use to and there are still days I have not managed to figure out my heaviest flow. It is best to try all this now rather than wait until later.
Thanks for doing this vid. Got a wife and two young girls to consider prepping for and I didnt know where to go on this subject. I will ask the wife to watch it so she can decide if this will work. Sounds like just the solution we needed though.
btw... here's a self help quote that helps me daily: "when you change the way you see a situation, the situation changes." sorry i don't remember its author.
I will definitely pray for you. I have only started prepping in the past two weeks, and spent many hours researching, shopping, window shopping future purchases, etc. I have found your videos so helpful and inspirational. A ye
It's super cool to see nurses makin these type of videos. I'm so accustomed to using tampons, I feel secure with my tampon, but just in case the ground caves in, I'll look into the Diva cup. Thank you.
PatriotNurse, Yours is one of the very best channels on YouTube. Thank you for your practical, helpful and lifesaving information. May whatever trials you are facing pass quickly and quietly and leave you stronger for the struggle. You're in our thoughts.
I use similar products the Diva Cup and the Luna Pads. The Diva cup does leak a little, so a pantie liner is a must. Just LOVE the luna pads! They are a beige color b/c they are organic cotton, and they never stain. They are very comfortable to wear, and would recommend them to anyone.
Good information. I thought of the dedacating cloth diapers method but I probably won't need this much longer. The long term pads you show ae a great idea. I did not know they made such things.
Prayers, good vibes and hugs to you in your time of trial...
Anyone who can sew can make their own reusable pads. Just Google menstrual pad pattern, and many sites pop up. My favorite patterns are Adahy's. I've made the pantyliner and the menstrual pad. They are much more comfortabled than commercial pads, and not as yucky as you would think. Great use for leftover flannel and old towels that are thin in the middle.
I would purchase more than one of the moon cups so you can pull one out and have a clean one to put back in than wash the one you just pulled out will be ready for next change time. So anyone who get one should at least get two and more if you can afford it.
Great information. I briefly addressed thoughts about this exact issue in a video last night. I had no idea about these options. Aside from my son and myself, the other 6 bodies in my house are female, so as you can imagine this is a very real concern for my wife and I in our preparation. Thanks for the helpful info.
As a guy, I used to cringe whenever a MaxiPad commercial came on during primetime TV and the subject is still not my favorite thing to think about. However, with that said, I have to say PN, that this is an amazingly important topic for preppers to understand and plan for. You are awesome!
Smile and be happy! Prayer energy on its way to you. :)
Thank you for your information. Great stuff. Lifting you up in love and light and hoping that things get better for you. One of the greatest things that anyone ever said to me when I was going through some tough, tough times was this: "Change is what happens when the pain of hanging on is greater than the fear of letting go" whether or not this pertains to your situation, it is still applicable. Everything happens for a reason. You will understand in time. Noreen
Also, just seeing a ll the people praying for you let me know that all is not lost on our society. There are still lots of us good Christian Americans left.We will overcome any obstacles put before us I believe w/ the Lords help.Praise God and may God bless America!
Prayers sent for you Patriot Nurse.I hope whatever is going on gets better soon. Also, doing a vid of this subject shows your dedication and professionalism and we all appreciate you. You're a good gal!
I've been thinking about getting a Mooncup off and on for awhile. You've convinced me to finally get one. I just placed my order. I found a coupon code online and was able to get 15% off my order which knocked the price down from $35.00 to $29.75. Thank you Patriot Nurse.
....another issue i do not hear anyone addressing is the need to pee....many years ago my Mom gave mme a pee-pot (enameled metal urinal) that that has been invaluable when needed hiking/biking or hunting, in fact i keep it in the vehicle pretty much all the time just in case....saves the behind from bug bites & eliminates the need to expose &or un-layerin cold weather in order to relieve oneself.
We appreciate your videos. Thanks for informing us guys. I just sent my wife the link to your video today. And I found out the moon cups are about $22 on Amazon.
Thank you for your very informative videos Patriot Nurse!!! Your doing great work for all. My prayers are with you and yours. Big Hugg to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great show PN! I heard of menstrual cups From mother earth news back in the 90's. Didn't know if they were still around. Preppers should pass on this info to women in financial difficulties. I wonder why woman's centers and shelters haven't picked up on it. A delivery of prayers have been sent you way, take care.
as a guy just let me say " eeeoooowww gross!" hahhaha good info i guess!?..i'm sure it is ...it just doesn't pertain to me....keep em coming girly...you are a valued member of the community here on youtube...
Not Reusable, but definately easier to store than Tampax OR Maxi Pads are O.B. Tampons. You can get 20-40 in a little 4X4 inch box. They cut down on the waste and storage for those that want to use Tampons. Just make sure you wash your hands Before and After!
Great vid! Thanks for posting it. In my "Get home bag" I have put some feminine Hygiene products in there but didn't have a clue as to how much I should have in there for my wife. I just grabbed a handful of stuff. So this video was very helpful.
Bought three Mooncups for myself & the girls 1 1/2 yrs ago. They have a 10-yr + lifespan, and can be set in direct sun to eliminate discoloration. Not only is this the most practical way to handle menstrual cycles during bug-out times, but also for bugging in. I'm certain there will not be a steady supply of hygiene products in the empty stores, regardless. I am SO GLAD you made this video, PN! (Also- I recommend using the cup as soon as it's purchased, as they take a while to get used to!)
Wife and i looked into the menstrual cup. First few time she used it. it looked like someone slaughtered a goat in the bathroom. But she got a handle on it.
@john762x39 it is worth mentioning that the bulk of wound care is done with clean dressings not sterile. feminine plumbing products manufacturers are very conscientious of maintaining a clean product because of how the products are used. I would not hesitate to use a pad in place of a abd pad in an emergency. a fellow (male) nurse. the glad rags brand has been around since the mid 80's
Wife and i looked into the menstrual cup. First few time she used it. it looked like someone slaughtered a goat in the bathroom. But she go the hand of it.
Ok, if you have info on this it would be great to do a video on it... How do they deal with this kind of stuff in the third world? I can image it's more "natural" over there in the way they treat this stuff, if you know what I mean. Perhaps there is something to be learned of that! Thanks. -Nax
If you can sew you can make a simplified version of the reusable pads pretty easily. Something to keep in mind for a long term issue. Not to mention the sheer amount of waste you are not generating by using disposables. I hand sewed a few myself in a couple evenings using an old flannel bed sheet with a layer of polar fleece for panty protection. I haven't had a single leak and they breathe! Way more comfortable. Never going back to disposables.
@meadowlassie Cutting your head off is always an option! Have you ever met a woman with a hysterectomy that was happy with it? The ones i have met still have pain/problems with it.
PN what ever the problem is, you are going to come through this, I just feel it. I'd send you comfort and an extra measure of courage. You have everything else to overcome within yourself.
Thank you so much for covering this issue. I was fearing having to deal with this by trial and error. At least now we can be prepared. Keep your chin up just another stepping stone of life and soon it will be behind you making you stronger
Not my favorite topic but very relevent we can't do what the Muslims do and send our American women out the house for a week til they are ( pure) again!!! Good vid always helpful as usual !
I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time as of late. My wife and I love your videos and you will be in our prayers. Remember in God all things are possible. We love you and may God bless and keep you.
And another great vid , thanks for the product info ! Prayers on there way ! Keep your chin up,eyes foreward, stand tall, drive on !!!! With your mindset you will be just fine !!!
Great advise! Being a woman with large fibroids, this issue has been weighing on my mind HEAVILY - pun intended. I'm working on shrinking the tumors holistically, have you ever heard of Progestelle?
have you seen those menstral cups ,in a box of 12 ,used for sports up to 12 hr usage .says they are not reuseable but they totaly r ,if u r in a bug out .look like a diaphram also .but ur silcone idea is better has a nozzle to pull it out unlike the diaphram shaped one ..peace out ...Thank u..
@Mariposakisses I have learned that thanking God for the "bad" in your life, is just as, if not more important than thanking God for the good in your life. It is hard at times to do so... But I find I learn more about myself and Him by doing so. Just thought I would comment.=)
I don't think it is under addressed...I don't think it is addressed at all. Being a man I haven't thought about it at all, but with a wife and 2 daughters I am now.
This is why we need more women like you putting out videos. This is great info that needs to be addressed for people. All you guys out there not thinking about these things, might want to consider taking some preps in dedicated to women's needs like this. The women in your life might not be prepping like you and so it is up to you to think about these things for them and be prepared.
Well presented, thank you. feminine hygeine is one of the last things ladies think about in a prepping situation. there are few vids out there addressing this subject. bushcraft with tam is another excellent video on the subject. tam has examples of homemade resusable hygeine pads and appropriate cleansing methods .a tin can and boiling water can give you an aseptic choice.most pads and tampons are biodegradeable and can be disposed of in fire or.... burial like you would with fecal waste, bravo
I very much appreciate ur informational video. I wasnt even aware of menstral control items other than the traditional tampons or pads. I have myself and 2 daughters to consider options for when bugging out and this just made things so much easier. Thank u so much! Many blessings to u during ur trials as well. :)

Wishing you the best with everything going on!!

cool video- the pioneers are all like "doh" we were washing out all those rags!

Hey PatriotNurse,
I was wondering if you would put together a video regarding iodine/iodide dosages to give children if in case of nuclear mishap? Also, what the best kind/name brands would be to use? Also, what amount of dosages to give children and adults. I have a 2 year old and was wondering about this. Thanks and keep up the good work. Thanks,

Moon cup, hell! Its a silicone TUBA MOUTHPIECE, LOL. Brightest blessings, my friend. Thank you for addressing a subject most of the "other" (male) preppers are too squeamish to deal with.
AnnBearForFreedom 11 months ago
Brightest blessings for you and yours, my friend. Period-wise, I lean more towards the GladRags approach. Being a larger woman, wrestling that cup in and out was just too comical for words. So now I roll up an old blue mechanic auto shop rag(s) and call it a go. Added bonus: the more times they are washed, the softer they get! Thanks for tackling an important topic that men don't like to discuss.

Noreen

Not Reusable, but definately easier to store than Tampax OR Maxi Pads are O.B. Tampons. You can get 20-40 in a little 4X4 inch box. They cut down on the waste and storage for those that want to use Tampons. Just make sure you wash your hands Before and After!

Also are maxi-pads sterile
john762x39 1 year ago 4
@john762x39 Maxi pads are not "sterile" in that they usually have not been autoclaved. They are considered "clean"
ThePatriotNurse 1 year ago
@john762x39 it is worth mentioning that the bulk of wound care is done with clean dressings not sterile. feminine plumbing products manufacturers are very conscientious of maintaining a clean product because of how the products are used. I would not hesitate to use a pad in place of a abd pad in an emergency. a fellow (male) nurse. the glad rags brand has been around since the mid 80's
