  • One of my favorites Great song! Still True!

  • foot-tappin'!

  • Can we find this music in CDs?? I have mi LPs but no form of hear it...

  • They are truly blessed with talent... I had seen them with a number of bands at a retreat in Chicago.....Awesome time SCB was amazing Brian has a voice...WOW

  • My mom had the 8-track of these guys when I was just a little boy and I loved this song. I had no idea these guys were THIS good.

  • Well, I have to say that it is really a straw man argument to say that there was poor musicianship in Christian music at that time. Certainly no worse than outside of Christian music. What contemporary Christian musicians were able to accomplish in quality and quantity with less than 1/10th of the funding or marketing that you would see for the same project in the secular world can only be attributed to the work of the Holy Spirit. "If God is for us, then who can be against us."

  • i am so glad i came to know Jesus when i did. it was just intime to listen to and be part of this music, Larry Norman, 2nd chapter of acts and so many. this is still a sweet comfort to listen to.

  • Awesome

  • YEAAHHH!

  • I saw these guys in Lewiston, Idaho in 1982, and I do not remember any of the songs but when they introduced the band the drummer was pounding the bass and with each drum beat it just hit the heart, it was COOL dude.

  • if i was jesus, i'de be proud.

  • i was at this concert at cc and it was great. to bad about the bass player he has gone to that great place he talked about here in the beginning of this video. He is playing for the lord now!!

  • I tried to share this video on facebook, but it wouldn't let me. What should I do, to share this?

  • I discovered them around 1981, bought all the older albums, but never realized how good a bassist Kevin was. Randy's guitar work and Bryan's voice and keyboard work but as usual, the rhythm section went unnoticed until watching the live videos. They were all incredible!

  • Ready!

  • Guess what THEY just blocked what I said about Jesus and won't let me post it because it's offensive. You can't silence God,sorry guys.

  • I heard these guys not too long after they got together. I don't think they had recorded their first album yet. They came to a local high school and played in the gymnasium for maybe 100 people. Randy and Bryan did a duelling thing. Randy would play something on his guitar and Bryan would duplicate it with his voice! It was one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen or heard. Over thirty years later, their music still holds up. Incredibly gifted guys. Love Sweet Comfort!

  • so happy to see this thank you~!

  • !!!

  • Heck, I may have been there if it was the early 80s. Love it. One of the complaints back then was that too much Christian music was either just not good musicianship or that they were poorly produced. Most of that still seems true of that era, but this band and Keith Green and Phil Keaggy and some more like that would never be caught with poor musicianship! Love this video. When was it filmed?

  • It was filmed about 1979.

  • @kshavo I might have been there too. Anything from 1975 - 1985, then I moved away.

  • romans10nine@live.com / I might have been there too. Anything from 1975 - 1985, then I moved away.

  • So thankful that I got to see them several times in the early 80's. What a great band! I was sorry to hear about Kevin, but there is no doubt he is home with the Lord.

  • Rest in Peace Kevin I plan to be there to join you in the Jam Soon. Say hi to King David for me.

  • Hello Everyone,

I am so excited to find my step dad Rick and step uncle Kevin on youtube. They are truely the most humble people you would ever have the pleasure of meeting.

    R.I.P. Kevin Thomson May 30, 2010

    God Bless,

    Christine Garcia

  • Please pray for Kevin Thomson's family..he passed away yesterday.

He was the bass player and an amazing man! I knew him back in the Sweet Comfort days and he was a great man of God.

  • @mcupples1 I am so sorry to hear this. He was one of my favorite musicians. My Son owns his old Alembic Bass.

  • Bass player in this video now in the Fater's arms in Heaven. What an amazing player and amazing band that release household names into the Christian music world. he will be missed!

  • Kevin Thomson passed away today. I thought this was a very nice testimony by Kevin at the beginning.

  • is that really Bryan with the long hair?

    Wow!

  • @dbwokc Which one? LOL

  • cant wait for the reunion!!!

  • Saw them LIVE in Honolulu, Hawaii way back in 1979 for a Harvest Celebration along with Oden Fong!

  • Groovy!! Lol good stuff!!!

  • THEY'RE GETTING BACK TOGETHER!!!

  • @oldschool19461 Seriously??? ;~)

  • Randy's headed out to CA to write with Bryan in a month or so... heard from Bryan yesterday. They are looking for a bass player.

  • Sorry for the delay in replying. YES!!! They're already in production for their reunion album. Both Bryan and SCB are on facebook and he's quite active.

  • Wow, this takes me back. Thanks for posting. Saw them live in about '81, good show.

  • Absoloutly tremendous musicians, this is from a time when musicians loved their craft, and combined with a group who loved JESUS, nothing like it. Music like this very rarely exists anymore. Praise God for their talent and that they used them for HIS GLORY!!!!

  • Sweet comfort band's music is outstanding. God bless their classic songs!!!!!

  • I was born in '71 so I never knew their music. I first heard of them in the late

80s from seeing a special done at a

church. Talkin about the influence of

secular rock. Anyway, they gave a pamplet of christian group/secular groups comparisons & I believe Comfort Sweet was on the list.

  • @CadillacL I'd be curious to know who Sweet Comfort Band was compared with.

  • If I remember, one of the comparisons was Chicago.

  • It was after '76, when Kevin sold me his Mitchell sand cab and traded up his Gibson SG for that Alembic.

  • What a talented group, and very inspirational.

  • does anyone know what year this is?

  • 1977! I bought every album they put out. Awesome group! Way ahead of their time, and pioneer's of the "Christian Rock Movement"

  • Get ready! Jesus is coming!

  • I remember this band and the albums and the Church

  • Pure greatness --- SCB !!!!. I so enjoyed these Maranatha concerts back in the late 70's. Good to see these posted ... B.D. is so very talented, what a gifted performer.

  • wonder what year this was recorded? that's the earliest 5-string bass i ever saw...

  • I think this is early 80s, and I think the base was an Alembic like Stanley Clarke used to play. Always liked this bass player. He also got a nice tone even with a pick.

  • Wow. This brings back memories... Not sure why but this weekend I was thinking about Sweet Comfort Band and I'm so glad I did a search here on YouTube. This is a great post cause it has Bryan and then the guitar solos... Classic SCB.

  • Wow! Look at Bryan Duncan. He's so young looking ! LOL! I only started hearing his songs in the late 80s early 90s. So this is kind of new to me. I've heard the music but not videos of these guys.

  • Comment removed

  • Can anyone sing like Bryan Duncan....wow, what a distinctive voice. And to see him from those days?? LOL....just great!

  • wore out that cassette tape cruisin' around in my folks Galaxy 500!

  • SCB, brings back a lot of memories, especially because they were one of my most favorite bands next to David and the Giants!

  • they were the first christian band i heard when i got saved in 1079 in s. texas and they where on word music from waco tx

  • Wow, poppimds007, you're OLD! hahahaha! Just kidding (you wrote 1079). One of my first Christian bands too, what awesome memories!

  • this is my roots. Born in '72 but have older siblings that kept 70's christian music blastin thru the house while I was a kid...INCREDIBLE

  • These guys are so awesome!!! And, Randy Thomas rocks!! I LOVE him!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song rocks, great bass playing!!!!

  • Wow! awesome video, thanks for sharing!!!! i absolutely love sweet comfort band this was great to see!!!

  • Oh my! I was born in '71 so I never heard of this band till I stumbled here on youtube. All I can say is wow!. I'd love to find more of their music.

  • They were absolutely my favorite Christian band back in the day. I was a teen goin to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa back then. I saw Bryan Duncan with his band not long ago here in Wenatchee, Washington. Good to see him after so long.

  • That was incredible! All I can say is, "More Cowbell!"

  • Hey, I grew up in a Calvary Chapel church too - Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, WA ... and now I live in Wenatchee too, where I'm the bass player at Foothills Foursquare Church :)

  • i like the songs of sweet comfort, glory to JESUS.pls.more song of sweet comfort like JESUS i love thanks shalom.

  • This is a great song! Many of the old CCM bands really wanted to glorify Jesus in their music. Everything seems so professional and prepackaged these days. Thank God for men like Keith Green, Denny Correll etc. Please check out Denny's wonderful songs by clicking my username. Thanks

  • I seen them live in the late 70s, they are a fantastic group. I just put up my version of their song "The Lord Is Calling You" but it pales in comparison to them.

  • they sound excellent

  • Praise the LORD!

  • THE BEST CHRISTIAN BAND EVER

  • @sashasquashi

    I'm with you !!!

    A basiste and a preacher too !

  • Saw these guys near Greensboro, NC (home of Bryan Duncan)in mid-late 70's at a large church. I had the Breakin' the Ice album, which is fabulous (still got it). Early White Heart band music was also good, as were the groups listed by sweetsal94560. Very good but not as kickin' was/is Kelly Willard, another 70's Christian singer who also did a lot of back up vocals and Maranatha praise music.

  • Awesome musicianship!

  • I was saved in 1967 but never heard them until now, I missed out on a great experience until now. They are great.

  • Our band opened up for them in Birmingham in the early 80's. My favorite band of all time!

  • What band? I saw them once or twice after I became a Christian.

  • Delor and Roger played their music !

  • this was great..i forgot how good the bass player was..... WOW I love these guys. Bryan has got to be the best vocalist on earth...what range and control... even a few years back on his last solo he was great, I had the opp to see him about 7 yrs ago and he didn't miss a note. Randy and Rick are great too...suprised I heard anything about them going solo.

  • The 1st time I saw Petra, they were opening for SCB (and they Petra couldn't hold a candle to SCB). I had the opportunity to see several of their concerts including their last concert in 84 (Riverside pulled the plug at 10 just as they were getting to the good stuff) I recently found out they reunited in 2001, I wish I would have know I hope they play again, because I will be there. God Bless you guys, here's looking forward to the best jam session ever in Heaven praising God with all we have.

  • What he's doing on the bass is great, but I would have much rather heard his fingers than his pick!

    just my preferance.

Bryan is my Favorite all time musician.

  • so glad this video is on here. i loved sweet comfort band. they were a great inspiration to me and a blessing brought by the Lord....loved them. great video!!!!!

  • I saw them in concert in Thousand Oaks , Ca. when i first met Christ. I wondered what became of them. :)

  • Anyone know of any other Christian bands of the 70's and 80's available on youtube? Sweet Comfort Band is one of my favorite bands of that era. I wish I could see one of their songs like...Valery, Armed and Ready, etc.

  • How about Darrell Mansfield, BJ Thomas, Phil Keagy, 2nd chapter of Acts :) when i think of more I will let you know blessing sent

    Merry Christmas

  • This group really spoke to my heart when I was a teen, I even sang "just like me" to my wife to propose. Bryan Duncan was kicked out of the school I later graduated from, now that was cool. I always loved the energy that came from that man.

  • Hey Ken, I could have done without the opeing comments but a great song music-wise for sure. I had been looking for a video of these guys. I got a letter from Pat Terry last week (you probably remember him). He's looking for some footage of the old group for me, but it doesn't sound promising.

PS, I may be getting a copy of the How the West Was Won DVD soon.

  • Randy (along with Phil Keaggy) was my guitar hero when I was just starting out as a guitar player. Great to see these videos. Brings back memories!

    :)

    m

  • How great is this music... wow !!!

  • I saw these guys in '79 when I was in college. They were the band that really got me into Christian music as a bass player. I had the good fortune of seeing them as part of the Creation Festival Legends of CCM with my son several years ago. They were still one of the hottest bands at the festival. It sent chills down my back to hear them again!

  • Note that he said, "The Universal Message is that Jesus Christ is coming and is coming soon." This was in the 70s. Note that today it seems that *most* Christians say "I don't believe in that rapture theory." That's because they weren't here when the Holy Spirit was speaking it far and wide to the Body of Christ.

God's only problem is that He can't tell time -- He doesn't know what "soon" is.

That last part was a joke, son.

  • This is soooo beyond cool! I was THERE at this concert! I showed my daughter and posted it on myspace for all the younger people from my church to hear. Thank you for posting this. What else have you got from those days?

  • SCB is one of the all time greats!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. Their music is hard to find these days. These videos ROCK !!!!!!

Please post more SCB and Allies stuff. Thanks for sharing.

  • holy smokes is there any christian band today that plays "christian funk"?

  • look up Bryan Duncan's new group...he's still grovvin'

  • thanks for the reply! i just got to see neho soul in nashville at this years GMA. he rocked the place down.

  • This is one of the great "Jesus Music" in that era. great.

  • Sweet Comfort Band is AWESOME!

    Bryan Duncan is Supreme!
