Of all the things in this life I'm grateful for...I'm most grateful that I was lucky enough to grow up in a time where legends like this existed. I'm afraid we'll never see this kind of passion again. :(
This was in Stevies drug periods, that's why he looks all warn out. Never the less he could play the guitar better than anyone! Did you know that Albert King turned an ordinary right handed guitar upside down and learned to play it that way? With the strings upside down...
@eliuhl Yep, so did Jimi Hendrix (Although he also used left handers and right handers strung upside down too.). And on a flying V too! I LOVE Albert King man.
This isn't a competition. BB liked SRV and how he played. He said so on several interviews. Why do you think you see them together in so may videos. Some people should listen to the music on the video instead of the music in their own heads.
I consider myself mainly a rock and roll guy. I mean blues is definately what I look up to but I wouldn't say I'm premirely a blues player. After seeing this I'm thinking I might want to be. LOL.
WOW! AMAZING! HOW'D the BUTTER GET IN THERE???? Miss him like mad. Loved Butterfield the MOST, AND Albert too! This is early, that's the OLD Lucy! ANyone have a year on this? Kudos to finder. Killer time for music.
@ItsCall911 Paul Butterfield of the Butterfield Blues Band. Pretty much gave Mike Bloomfield his start. Check out 'East-West' Better Days' LP, & 'The Reincarnation of Pigboy Crabshaw'. Songs like 'Born in Chicago' and 'I'm Drunk Again'. He could kick out the jams on harp.
@entity3sf... paul butterfield's services won't be needed?? are you serious? if anyone isn't needed it's bb king..he's a distant 3rd to albert king & stevie ray..
I hear ya Camarorider. Endless hours of practice alone can't explain those one-in-a-generation guitarists' gift . There has to be something else at play. Something very rare, and beyond mere technical skill - an instinctive, innate "feel" for the inflection and timing of notes in the blues music genre.
Had a '67 Camaro a few years back, with the 327 V8. I liked the curved lines of that car, and the sound of her motor. She wasn't no poor man's "Vette though ha ha. She was the chit !
By all accounts, SRV, Clapton and John Mayer all went through phases of their lives in which they practiced guitar for endless hours over periods of time ranging from months to years, before they got to the stage when they could craft the muscial masterpieces they are all known for.
With that in mind I doubt whether "feeling the blues" , which is frequently cited as a major factor in becoming a virtuoso blues guitarist, could contribute anywhere near as much to mastery as does practice.
@riverbankfisher Then again, not everyone can feel the blues, and when they play it you can tell. They've got the technical skill but not the emotional skill to sell it. The virtuosoes are the ones who can really portray their own style of blues.
hey i get 16 two weeks ago and i love this kind of musica actually i like all this music ,this and rock n roll, classic rock , jazz all that music and its really hard to find someone of my age to talk about this music
@jesusismybuddie dude....the blues will never die. let these other people my age get this club scene n shit goin for the next few years. it will die. but this....never ever ever will this ever go away.
@jesusismybuddie its been my goal, but i had to give up becuase these mindless ignorant kids are hopeless. im stuck in a generation of people with no taste....
@jesusismybuddie i'm not a young gun anymore, i am 58 and have been playing the harp for over 40 years since i first heard Paul Butterfield, but i am doing my part to keep the blues alive, and hope to form a new band here in wisconsin where i live so i can record a tribute album to some of blues' greatest legends, including elmore james, muddy waters, willie dixon, howlin wolf, t bone walker, and john lee hooker to name a few
@jesusismybuddie Im trying! the other guy in my band wants me to play emo songs, i start of emo then convert it to blues then play a SRV solo! im 16 btw :P
@jogreeen My little cousin is only one year old and he has his first blues album. The first song is called "Please, Please, Won't Somebody Change My Diaper". The second song is real bluesy called, "My Bottle Done Fell Out the Crib, and I Feel Like I'm Gonna Die". He ends the album with a snappy 12 bar blues in E called "I've Seen Better Days when Mama Come Runnin when I Cry"
He's really gonna be somebody big someday. He's got a mobile with ukes and mandolins and banjos hangin above his crib.
You're lucky. When I was 15 I was the best ball player in my neighborhood.I was also the best guitarist.

Is it just because of the poor quality of the picture, or is Albert King playing with a guitar that's strung for a right-hander? During his solo in the 2:00 area, it looks like he's bending the strings that SHOULD be the A and D, but I'm hearing high tones. Looks like he's bending down.
I agree, SRV built his style on AK, U can hear that. But, man no one can rip into a guitar like SRV. Not even these stupid speed demons like vai and satriani and that stupid swedish dork
@SRVconor Albert isn't overlapping Stevie. Stevie is overlapping Albert. Albert is the King of blues. Stevie Ray was one of the greatest guitar players to ever live and one of my personal favorites. But without Albert King, Stevie's style would be different and he wouldnt have allot of the licks he used.
SRV always looked up to his influences even when he became famous. I read somewhere that there was a time when one of the Kings opened for stevie, and he became enraged that the king opened for him. Stevie's manager person had to make sure it never happened again.
stevie was in it for the music; people nowadays are in it for the money.
I like the reverence SRV gives to the Kings,he just hangs back and soaks it all in,wish i was on that stage that night it had to be the jam of a lifetime!
@Jessrama clean and sober aint no fun only the rich and famous die young die from misadventure. Living and not living to the fullest is no life at all but we all must suffer it and make it as pain free as possible, these guys had more fun and experience in the 10 odd minutes of this clip than some will in 100 years of living
@banhaz the blues is something you feel deep down in your soul. this feeling can be cultivated by embracing the great blues masters of the past and present. the music of the blues is the greatest gift you can give to yourself. the blues is the roots, the rest of the music is the fruits. thanks for lovin' the blues.
@a1zzzz what a great way of explaining the blues :) most of my friends are into drum n bass and music that tbh i dn't like :) nice to see there are blues fans still :D
@Jessrama sorry, but stevie was only clean for the last year of his life. 1989-1990. not knocking him at all. he was the most amazing guitarist & even a better man. one of my biggest influences!
Epic The New Blood, The King of the Blues and the other King of the Blues really compliment each other well. B.B. with the vibrato and Albert with the bends, sends chills down my spine. O my god. Paul Butterfield is the white version of B.B. King. I would pass out if I was Stevie.
@kirahna check out a couple of guys from chicago, the late son seals, and little ed williams,...you can never have too many favorite blues guitarists !
@a1zzzz thanks man for the tip! I will do that and check them out. Really appreciate it and yes, you're right! You can never have too many favorite blues guitarists. My dad was my favorite guitarist until he passed on and I found that listening to legends like BBKing and Albert with Stevie Ray Vaughan... helps me relived the memories of my dad and cherished these fine artists for sharing their talents and gifts with the world.
@themanchild27 Oh, man. That's kind of sad. Intro. friends to it. Look for concerts. It sorta depends on where you live too. Keep up on it and when you're old enough, support any local blues clubs in your area or community radio stations. I'm kind of lucky and there are lots of them here in the South. Listen/learn all you can. Lotsa good stuff you can download on usenet (skip all the porn LOL). Maybe forums online? Music stores? Talk to older people, hippies, there. Teachers? Good luck.
@themanchild27 Haha, know the feeling bud, I'm the only one in my area (maybe even country!) under the age of 18 to listen to the blues, and up until now I've mainly met blues-players that are over 40!
@themanchild27 You're lucky. When I was 15 I was the best ball player in my neighborhood.I was also the best guitarist.
So I stuck with guitar.Been at it since 64. Go to G.E. PERRY on Facebook or you tube. I got back into senior ball. This year- .429

Amazing....simply art in form...does it get any better than this? Too bad some of the greats are gone...Stevie and Paul...hard to fathom..it was 23 years ago? Damn...time flies....
talk about some cool talent... there's the master rite there with 3 of his proteges... walking on down the street... in Memphis.... there's nothin like that sound....
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
At 5:03 I think Albert gets little upset over B.B.s playing. Then albert takes command of the whole stage letting no one play but himself. Love that man!
@jenniferjuniper97 That is the late Paul Butterfield on Harmonica. His band called the Butterfield Blues Band played at the original Woodstock in 1969
Does anyone else think...... Albert King is great and played a great part in the build up of SRV's style.... but just wish he would stop play with he weedy tone and overlapping srv.....
@SRVconor you should look into the cd/dvd Albert King with Stevie ray Vaughn "In Session" if you havent. Your spot on with that observation and the booklet that comes with it goes into detail about how correct you are. Also, it's fucking amazing.

Teachers? Good luck.

@themanchild27 You're lucky. When I was 15 I was the best ball player in my neighborhood.I was also the best guitarist.
So I stuck with guitar.Been at it since 64. Go to G.E. PERRY on Facebook or you tube. I got back into senior ball. This year- .429
"Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with the smell of grass in my nose and the taste of clay in my mouth.I could pick up my guitar and play things most guitarist can only dream of,but all I want to do is throw a baseball to someone"

Awesome. I am stoked by this. Thanks for posting.

That IS a very nice "V" that Albert is playing!
To quote a lyric that Albert sang on an album he put out in 1977: "I've been playing since 1955 and I can tell ya... The Blues don't change!"
He jammed with Jimi...enough said.

It's just a shame we'll never see this happen again. R.I.P SRV and Albert King. Among legends.
Zasalamel49 1 year ago
that was fkn amazing......bb is no slouch, but he was out of his league being up there with the other 3 legends...

At 5:03 I think Albert gets little upset over B.B.s playing. Then albert takes command of the whole stage letting no one play but himself. Love that man!

Who is that playing the harp?
jenniferjuniper97 1 year ago
@jenniferjuniper97 That is the late Paul Butterfield on Harmonica. His band called the Butterfield Blues Band played at the original Woodstock in 1969

Does anyone else think...... Albert King is great and played a great part in the build up of SRV's style.... but just wish he would stop play with he weedy tone and overlapping srv.....
SRVconor 1 year ago 7
@SRVconor weedy tone! are you listening to the same song as me? :)
TheTomdude15 1 year ago
@SRVconor I personally really like Albert's tone.
woofiny 10 months ago
@SRVconor you should look into the cd/dvd Albert King with Stevie ray Vaughn "In Session" if you havent. Your spot on with that observation and the booklet that comes with it goes into detail about how correct you are. Also, it's fucking amazing.

@boxingin@SRVconor SRV admitted he had a terrible cocaine and alcohol problem at this stage of his career.
