  • Love this song.

  • It has the same CPU as my Netbook :D

  • Great video post! I was trying for 20 minutes to figure out why the top chassis could not come off, only to find that there were 2 SCREWS underneath the rubber rear feet!

  • I wish I could upgrade that 8GB only allocated to the OS. I just used a 16GB SD card. Worked like a charm. I followed what you said, and found a 512MB clip in it. weird! I could have sworn that the OS said 1GB

  • can i do it also to my Acer Aspire One 531h??

Can i follow the same way or are there any diferences?

    I bought it on 2009

  • Great video, helped me lots. Thanks for your assistance!

  • thanks man

  • Ummm, I have the exact same model as in the video, but mine came with 1 GB of RAM...

So, can I add 512 MB to it or should I not even bother?

    Thanks!

  • this video is reeally HELPFUL! nice video...and i got a question. 4g ram doesnt really work huh? cause i just bought one and try it the screen wont turn on. but when i put the original one back on. its work.. but i wonder if 2g will work?? please respond asap thanks!

  • @gabbergabber It supports 1.5Gb max. So it have 512 soldered to the board, so you can only add a 1Gb stick of ram.

  • @securityactive

thanks alot bro for maken my time worth it. lucky i didnt buy 2+ gigs.! now my netbook running great! thanks alot for tutorial! PROPS!

  • @securityactive

thanks for saving me some time! d=] sucks that it can take only 1g =[

  • Comment removed

  • @securityactive: Many thanks for this video. It is the best I have seen sofar since you carefully show where the screws are and what to do, while the actual unscrewing the screws is never shown. Thank you!

  • ummm... this computer almost has more ram than hard drive space!

  • How much ram will these take, and what type? Thanks!

  • look at the defenceless small laptop hit that with an jack hammer XD

  • Holy cow! I might as well learn brain surgery. It's just as complicated.

  • i'm going to upgrade my netbook to 80GB storage and 1,5gb RAM

  • Comment removed

  • I can confirm that my Acer Aspire is constructed like this and has no trapdoor, I took out the 8GB SSD sometime ago and put an iPod style 60GB hdd in it, runs Windows 7 fine albeit a little slowly, currently it has 1GB ram but may take it to 1.5GB.

  • this video is either outdated or incorrect. It is not neceessarry to remove the keyboard to upgrade the Ram. See the superb video on you tube by mDevil.com or find it on the lists here

  • @goshmerlin I went to nDevil.com and his RAM upgrade for the D255 follows exactly the same process. I did this upgrade just now and there is no way to get the bottom off without taking the KB off. I did wonder why Acer didn't put the screws through the base plate, but they didn't. So KB has to come off.

  • very detailed. thx

  • I may attempt this when I have the time to sit do all the steps at once. I need to upgrade my Acer Aspite One ZG5. I got it for $99 at Goodwill because someone set (and forgot) a BIOS password). One flash later and I have a great little machine. :D

  • Thanx just upgraded my old acer aspire one as per this video, it workes great Thanx

    Lars

  • Disassemble the entire netbook just to upgrade the RAM. Well done Acer... Retards.

  • what kind of XP themes was that at the end?

  • Perfect! Thank you so much for this presentation. Followed your tutorial to the T and successfully installed 1GB to make 1.5 in my son's netbook. I longed for the little trapdoor that other laptops have but I'm glad I got the opportunity to see how these things are built. Thanks again!

  • What is the total amount of RAM there can be ?

    1.5GB or 2GB ? or else...

  • Thank you for this. Perfect.

  • i whatched this on my acer aspire one

  • wow, this so hard, my toshiba only need 2 screw on the bottom or the back of it

  • im on mine right now and check out the poll on my channel!

  • I just wanted to say thanks. I just upgraded one model AOA110 for a friend. I'd have been completely stuck without this .

  • Hey I'm mighty apreciative of this video, I have a AOA 150 also, it varried a bit from yours but got it done, thank you very much for making my life just a little bit easier. now I have 1.5gb and 150HDD. running w7 and Jolicloud. Oh and this little bugger came with a battery issue that was taken care of with a bios flash, but then I bought a 6cell batt. on Ebay for 28 dlls and not I'm styling.

  • at the end you wrote you used pc5300? is it pc25300? is there a difference?

  • i just followed these directions to but a new bottom panel on my aspire. By the time i had the memory chip exposed, there were only six screws left. sigh.

  • Oh my God. That's major surgery there. I just wanted to upgrade the ram, not take apart the entire computer. Now I am having second thoughts about this

  • I bought the acer aspire one series battery from doodon.com

  • if you acctually read this, i need help with my acer aspire 5742G i've had it for about 3 weeks, and now the harddrive doesnt work or something, every time i try to start the computer it just enters "repair" mode and if i let it run for a day or two it doesnt do anything.... i dont know what to do and im not exacly great at computers, any tips?

  • @MrSoda157 I can only suggest you contact the support department from where you bought it, however I imagine they will just instruct you to use the recovery CD to return it back how it was on day 1.

    Hope you get it working.

  • @securityactive great... 4th time im there with a acer with harddrive problems x ) fml.

  • @MrSoda157 Unless you already fixed your problem, this just happened to my Acer aspire desktop, I took it in and they said the hard-drive crashed, it costed me around $300 dollar's to replace it, but you could get it for less. Goodluck mate.

  • @MrSoda157 hey! i have the same laptop here! now your comment is 7 month old, what did you do? did you send it back? did they repair it? i personally had a problem with mine to, one USB port broke and i shipped it over. they wanted 30€ to ship it back unrepaired or 90€ to repair it... i sayd "fuck you" and let them send back the device. after glueing the usb port with some superglue it perfectly worked again, and there is no difference noticeble...

i hope you have better exp. with the service,,,

  • excellent video... many thanks works just the way you described it

  • someone has signed in on your msn xD

  • you got fat fucking fingers..

  • sorry man ican't do it i might damage my laptop

  • @marcotic1010 does ur acer have the right and left click on the side or the bottom of the trackpads

  • wow this is alot of shit to just upgrade the memory?????

  • I don't have to do that all (suppose i have a newer version) so i have a little door in the back...Just one question...It has 1 gig memory but does it have room for another...card whatever (1+ 1 gig) or do i have to remove the old one and buy a new 2 gig one? Thanks!

  • Security Active: I used your video to help me with an issue I had with the power supply. I found a broken wire coming from the board to the female power connector (Charger). Resoldered it and put it all back together. It works once again. Thank you! If not for your video I may have broken the plastic while trying to access the internals. I really appreciate your efforts to help others.

  • Worked perfectly

    thanks for posting this

too bad the aspire can only be upgraded to 1.5 gb from 0.5gb

I did a desktop ram upgrade- this was harder but doable

  • Great Video!, Saved us a lot of time and labor knowing exactly what to remove.

    We Thank You!

  • hey thanks for the video. i didn't knew how to open my aspire1 keyboard but thanks to you i was just able to open and clean it!

  • Someone who knows if I could use a 2 GB RAM on an Aspire One 110 with 204 pins?

  • any chance I can put an intel i7 processor in lol?

  • Appreciate the video! Just bought a used ZG5 and this video was very useful in helping me to figure out the memory. What a pain!

  • Um, turn the thing over and you've got a little door that you just take four screws out of, and just slot the 2GB's in. It takes under 5 minutes...

You can do it the hard way as in this video if you'd like to see how your computer is stuck together, but probably not worth it...

  • @ivorbggn not on the original release version, which is what this demo is for.

I believe they may have changed the design. If this model had a door to give direct access to the memory it would have been used, and people would not be looking for a video on the memory upgrade.

  • @ivorbggn My Acer Aspire One (1995) has a little door with 2 screws but inside there are no connectors or attachments. I will follow the video's great instructions.

  • @ivorbggn that is not true for all acer aspire one pcs. I opened that little door but there was no such access. I had to do like they show in this video.

  • @ivorbggn i have the model he's using here, and there isn't a memory panel on the bottom. For whatever reason they must have redesigned the motherboard or something but not the case because i actually have a panel you can take off on the bottom but there isn't anything at all under it.

  • @ivorbggn The door on many of the Aspire Ones just goes nowhere as far as I can tell. I had to follow this procedure as well.

  • That must be the model Verizon give out. Mine came with 150gb.

  • what ram is needed?

  • My acer just down right sucks!>:(

  • @Josewazheretoday ur's cause mine works better than those 1000, dollar ones.

  • @TheWillie2005 that explains so much!

  • my aspire looks alot different on the bottom. i have separate hatches for each of the slots, including the harddrive hatch. could it be mine is a newer model?

  • MIGIT

  • im going to get one of these if i find someone that will reply, and that is happy with this notebook

  • @lolnumpty ,,,like i said, before.Iwouldn't buy a thousand dollar one, cause mine works great, and the price 349,or something like that.Thank you God!! he's so good to me.

  • is it possible to bump it up to 2 gigs? i'm already at 1gb and i need two, to run protools.

  • In your AAO is 2 RAM ports ,because 1.5 GB of RAM doesn't be. After 1 GB RAM goes 2 GB RAM (but no 1.5 GB) :)

Sorry for my bad English. :)

  • @Userizz Sorry you are incorrect.

There is 512MB soldered to the motherboard that can not be removed.

The is an empty SO-DIMM slot and I installed a 1GB module, that is a total of 1.5GB RAM.

  • @Userizz shared Graphical card ram?

  • @Userizz Dude i think he has the older acer aspire one. the one with the 500MB ram

  • Thats a rediculous amount of work to upgrade ram, Luckily my netbook uses a sliding lock to remove the door covering the ram on the underside,.30 second install .

  • can anyone tell me where can i find a youtube downloader? is the one from aletrvista a good one ( for windows xp) ? or safe?? thank you!! :)

  • Can someone tell me if a Acer Aspire One AO533-13083 are good?? I just wanna use the netbook to be in msn messenger webcam and see pictures. If this netbook is good enough for this task??? grettings from PERU

  • @Avaldivia74 mine works great at videos or pictures, very clear.

  • It looks like Acer took a piece of RAM and build a netbook around it...

  • @sijmenjan you are correct sir

  • @sijmenjan (Chuckling.) You're not kidding! I have two 1GB sticks that I just took out of my son's eMachines Black Friday Walmart laptop and had planned on upgrading a friend's Acer Aspire One AOD255-2509 Netbook from 1GB to 2GB, but if this is what I'd be up against, I'm throwing in the towel before I even make the attempt. (And I also understand that opening up the Netbook voids the warranty (not confirmed))

  • @tjs1957tube It has been fixed in the newer revisions (sadly/happily enough).

  • @MrVijfhoek Thank you for the information. I don't know if my friend's netbook is from the newer production run, so I think I will still pass on the attempt to upgrade the RAM.

    Be well.

  • @tjs1957tube Plus, only one of the two memory sticks are upgradeable, one is soldered/glued/whatevered to the motherboard.

  • @sijmenjan Yeah, but, the revisions later on fixed that... the one I have has the little door at the bottom for upgrading the RAM...

  • HELL...

  • thanks a million for this video

  • you are stupit

  • i can't for the life of me get the cover off from around the hinges :S

  • nevermind... fucking screws in the feet

  • there are two screws on the bottom and you can uncover the ram and change the chip in 2 min. lol there is even a picture of the ram chip on its access door !!! wow

  • @tsmith352 This is on the new version. My guide is for the original Acer Aspire One

  • @securityactive any chance that you can place the website in the Description area? so we can go to directly to the pay pal page,so people can click on it, and buy it?,or maybe also the hard drives for the ZG5?,some of us who bought a ZG5, have only 7GB of hard drive space...

  • @securityactive : Nice video.. phew.. i must say, it was quite alot of work getting into the ram chip. Now that i have opened my white Acer aspire, i need to buy a ram dimm. Could you please tell me the EXACT dimm u used so i can get the right one. I am looking for a 1gig dim, so i will end up with 1.5gigis. Thanks :)

  • @shendrew As per the video I just used a 1GB SO-DIMM Module PC5300 667Mhz 200pin module.

  • Great Vid Shit cam

  • man, dat's a magic ass screwdriver.

  • Hold shit....they should just put a sticker on the backside that says FUKIN FORGET ABOUT IT.

  • The ABSOLUTE HARDEST PART of dealing with these MFers is GETTING THE MOTHEREFFING KEYBOARD RIBBON CABLES RE-ATTACHED when you are done.

It is almost bloody goddamned impossible.

  • does anyone know if you can fit a hdd in these net books?

  • Does anyone know if you can fit a hdd in these net books?

  • Your having a laugh, i thought it was well easier than that. oh well just have to put up with the laptop the way it is.

  • NOTE TO ALL: be SUPER careful with the monitor cable... even though I was, it is SO fragile that one of the wires inside mine broke. The cable is about $40 to replace and very hard to find.

  • thanks for the guide. i don't understand why they made the design so difficult.

a question: how many ram slots are there in total? Is the 1GB that come with the netbook can't be removed (attached permanently to the motherboard?)

i normally get mine from dabs. sometimes, they are expensive, but sometimes, i found a good deal there. also, my other favourite shop is an online shop with HQ near heathrow airport (forgot the name, but i think it was xtremepc or something like that.)

  • @wtanoto On mine 512MB is physically mounted on the motherboard, this leaves 1 SO-DIMM expansion slot remaining.

  • @securityactive thx for the response. i also saw one of your comment that your acer is limited to 1.5GB. how do i determine if my acer has this limitation. it came with 1GB memory with win xp. as far as i know, the licencing for certain windows such as starter edition limits to certain hardware. does this mean if i am not limited by software i can use more ram? i am using win7 home basic (from south east asia, and certainly not available in UK), which limits RAM to 4GB.

  • @wtanoto I am not 100% sure on the later versions of the Aspire One, but the memory limitation is set by the bios, not the operating system.

I would assume yours is also limited to the bios only allowing 1.5Gb

  • I HATE ACER.

  • @erick36594 My Acer Aspire 5100-5455 that I bought for around $600 brand new, was pre-installed with Windows Vista. It has:

1.8 GHz AMD Turion x2, 1 GB RAM (256 MB of the RAM is used for graphics by default, so I am left with 768 MB RAM for Vista) ... Disk drive stopped working 1 month after I bought it. It overheats enough to where the stickers on the bottom can't be read, The left touchpad button is broken, the screen won't turn on, and the batter lasts for only 15 minutes. I HATE ACER!

  • @erick36594 Also, the Card reader only works on a good day. 2 of the 3 USB ports only run USB 1.1 only 1 of the 3 uses USB 2.0 ?!!!! WTF I got ripped off. I treated this laptop with soooo much care, and everything broke for no reason. most of the problems I have had, others have had with this same model. Oh yeah, and the biggest problem of all: I power up the laptop. The BIOS gives me an error message with 2 VERY LOUD beeps, saying there was some type of error on the board itself!

  • @TheGreatBunghole16 wow thats a lot of problems my school gave me one free

  • where is the cd drive on an aspire one... still looking

  • @Romanianloop It doesnt have one mate. Most netbooks dont.

  • @Romanianloop have you checked under the any key? it might be hiding there lol

  • @Romanianloop there isn't one

  • @Romanianloop it do not have one. no netbooks do. the cd drive would take up the whole thing

  • i couldnt do it....

sticking to MAC from now on.

    GREAT video though

  • So this upgraded yours to 2 gb RAM?

  • is it normal NOT TO BE ABLE to listen music and youtube with acer aspire one 250d ?

i have 1gb ram, just installed win xp, and can only play music if it's on a flash drive.

cannot watch youtube clips, it's all jittery. pls help

  • @ToLiveAndDieIn1984 I had the same problem with mine. I Formated the drive and reinstalled a fresh copy of windows 7, It's WAY faster than when I first used it and I can stream HD video

  • In regards to the reasoning of upgrading ram:

XP with how much has been added to it over the years, now runs best with a MINIMUM of 1GB ram. In other words, just sitting at the desktop, depending on what other software is installed, it could be using around .6 to 1GB of memory from just sitting. Adding more memory means being able to do more stuff at once. In regards to gaming, more memory helps but its not the only thing that improves gaming frames/second and graphics.

  • Great video! I had to disassemble two of these and this came in handy. I had to take the HDD out of one and put it in another to see if it would boot off that drive.

This video is useful for getting at the HDD as well as the memory because the HDD is located right next to the SODIMM slot.

This video is pretty relavent to disassembling an A105 8.9" incase you are wanting to know. (thats the model I had to disassemble and reassemble...twice).

  • very good video, i like it

  • Thank God the D250 isnt like this, thanks to those lil panels on the underside :)

    Nice video

  • Thanks! This video saved me hours of frustration.

  • That sucks!

On the 10in new versions, there is a slot on the underside. Remove one screw and you have access to the ram!

  • So what is the major improvement in usability with the ram upgrade??

What software requires the extra ram??

Will it be able to play games like W.O.W. or Day of Defeat Source??

  • RAM increases total system speed. RAM, Randomly Accesses Memory (Note the abbreviation is RAM) randomly stores memory that your computer can access much more quickly then if it tired to read that from the harddrive.

RAM makes ALL games run better.

And certain games and operating systems may require more RAM.

  • what is the exact ram stick do you have?

  • nevermind its ur drive lol

  • this only has one ram slot?

  • Correct

  • damn that sucks, that means i have to buy a 2 gig ram stick if i want two gig :(. 2gig ram costs alot lol

  • Not all the Aspire Ones support 2GB, mine only supports a max of 1.5GB, so make sure you do your research.

  • how come its says you have 8 gig of ram???

  • Thats 8GB SSD Hard Disk

  • lol mine 120

  • i think i'll get a pro to do it cuz id fuck something up trying to do this

  • Thanks for the video. I have Windows 7 and Office 2010 and it needs 1.5GB of RAM to stop thrashing that it is doing with 1GB. It runs good now, I want it to run great.

  • i ot the aspire one 11.6 inch is it the same?!

  • @neilgerald77 no you dont have to do all this junk with the 11.6 inch or 10.1 inch...(thankfully) u just have to remove a door on the bottom and replace it not all this

  • An SD card wouldnt have increased memory.

SD card will increase storage, and that was not the objective.

  • momory and storge are different. memory is "ram" storge is harddrive space/data space, SD card would increase storage

  • One important addition: if you have a 3G version, remove the 3G module that can be accessed from the back first!

  • We have the Acer Aspire One D250 (ultra-thin version) and I was planning to follow this video for installing my 2GB module. I flipped the Netbook over and saw a door! Took the door off and there was the old RAM. Just popped the old one out, put the new one in, and closed the door. Whoo-hoo! Much better! :)

  • @jp2mail wait, i have the same kind as you, what do u have to do? i want to upgrade my RAM, but it dont wnana take it apart.

  • Sorry this has taken so long.

My machine just has a small door on the back that is secured with one screw. Take that off, and pop open the access bay.

  • yeah please.. i have 3 doors. 2 small and one big.. i just need to know which one is to the RAM

  • @kody1234567891011: If you post your email address, I can email you a photo.

But really, you'll have to have a screwdriver to take the back cover off. If you already have the screwdriver, just start taking one of the doors off. If you see your memory module underneath it, that's probably the right door. If not, open another door.

If this is too much for you, I'd suggest taking your laptop to someone qualified.

  • haha i found it.. thanks though=[)

  • @kody1234567891011 middle one

  • @jp2mail good for you

Can you send me a pic of the bottom of your computer?

i hope i have the same kind as you

its an aspire one d250 also but some are made differently

  • Where should I send the photo to? I tried posting a link last night, but it did not "stick".

  • Gave up on mine, got the keyboard off but the bezel refused to come apart at the back by the screen. Guess it is somehow fused to the chassis?

  • It should not be fused. Take the rubber feet off and remove the screws under them. It takes a gentle pry to get the bezel snap up. Just be sure all the screws are out of it, both under the keyboard and on the back.

  • @mikeyp7771 one thing i've used is a guitar pick, its flexible and thin, yet strong enough to pry with. Works everytime for me :)

  • dude you saved my ass if you want to reset bios on acer aspire ZG5 that they way at the end you find the BIOS battary remove it wait little bit and then put all again back and done, my problem was to open it but when i seen the video it done it Thanks a lot man :D

  • cant you make a tutorial of how to put in a bigger SSD?

  • Upgrading the HD would be a very similar process, as taking it all apart is obviously the same. The tricky part is finding a suitable replacement.

Many have used a ZIF connector and a PATA drive from an ipod.

  • thanks m8!

  • much easyer with a desktop or a laptop.

  • Thanks a lot man you saved me your hands are big lol

  • Works great, save for the fact that on minute 1:10 or so, he left out mentioning the the removal of a couple more screws.

  • thanks juu

  • he's a professional mime

  • what is the thing on the back that you can open

  • this only has one memory slot right? so to make it 2gb, i would have to buy a 2 gig ram stick right? or does it have 2 memory slots and i can just buy another 1 gig and it'll become 2gig?

cause if it only has one slot, then no thanks, cause 2 gig ram stick cost 45$ +.

  • its maks 1.5 gig ram on acer aspire one

  • Also, purchase some capton or mylar tape, remove the LCD cable from the mainboard. Tape around the connector and replace. Stops the LCD panel from shorting the board and getting half a display.
