I'm not a believer in religion, but I appreciate your thoughts. This was an outstanding review of an (imho as a 6+ month owner of a 7801u) outstanding machine!

He discussed the positives and negatives of this machine honestly and fairly.

Yes, the 7801u is a dust magnet. Yes, the glossy look is so 2005 and yes, the thing weighs almost as much as a VW.

However the screen, the video card, the memory and the sheer power of this machine make the price absolutely worthwhile.

Tigerdirect sells the 7801u, there currently out of stock but will have more in by late May.

The Sager NP5797 is much better than the 7801u, but the price is much higher.

I just want to know i love this program is very detailed, i´m have two choices on my hand, a gateway 7801u or a sarger clevo whit the new gtx280m, yeah i knwo the 280 is very powerfull but the battery of that laptop is very poor and gateway is about 3:30 hours and gateway is less expensive is $1399 vs $1900, still i looking for a laptop i can play and work, and watch media so i need to chose one thank you. The clevo is the 5797 selled on xoticpc.

You can buy a model exact the same on ebay is very easy to find someone selling the 7805u whit 1900x1200 so if u want just go get on ebay :)

I have bought a second HDD for my P-7801u and I installed it correctly. I booted it on and installed the drivers but the computer detects it as a CD drive. What should I do?

It recognizes it as a CD drive? I've never heard of that before. -- First go into the BIOS during setup and make sure that the laptop is detecting BOTH hard drives. Then go into "Start" - "Settings" - "Control Panel" - "Administrative Tools" - "Computer Management" - "Disk Management" --- You should be able to see the second hard drive. Make sure it is initialized, partitioned, and format.

I just got a P-7805u and man is it a beast. It will take anything you throw at it. 1gb 9800m GTS 4gb DDR3.. This thing is amazing.. I ordered a T9300 for it. I will let you know how that preforms..

I think its great what you doing Father Robert. Keep up the great work. Will you ever do any reviews on the ASUS G series notebooks? I love your reviews and they certianly help people to choose the right notebooks for there lifestyles. Keep it up!!

This is an awesome rig for around $1200. Wish I had an extra $700 in my taxes.. this would be the one I would get. Oh and the finger print problem isn't that big of a deal to me because I don't take my laptop out of the house so no one but me sees it. Also I carry a cleaning cloth on me all the time just for my glasses so when I have to clean my current laptop it's not a big deal..

Unfortunately that's kinda like asking "what's the best car." It really depends on the person who will be using the product. If you want the absolute best price/performance gaming notebook, nobody currently beats Gateway. If you want absolute performance and money is no object, Dell/Alienware has some sweet machines.

That's why I don't do head-to-head reviews unless there is a specific context. I want the viewer to choose what THEY want based on what THEY see.

Yes... but you need a motherboard that will support it. It will take a while before they can design a system that takes into account the various power and thermal needs of the i7 Quad core CPUs.

No. Many of these notebook have some kind of slotted card for graphics, but they are REALLY not designed to be swapped out. Doing so messes with a very closely balanced heat/power design.

Great review Fr. Robert, this laptop is great because of the performance it can offer, but I will agree that I'm a little bit vexed by the glossy finish. I recently received an M series Gateway Laptop about 4 months ago and it has a similar glossy finish that this laptop has. Thankfully I have a few microfiber cloths, but I do like the more brushed aluminum look that the Macbooks have.

As you can see in our vids, I still use a M-series as my primary. It's been THE most solid, trouble-free and performance/weight balanced machine I've used.

We'll keep the notebook reviews coming because I know that's that y'all like. We've got Gateway's new notebooks, plus a few from Dell, HP, Durabook and Asus. (It always takes time for the big guys to trust us small content producers!)

That's cool... different notebooks for different people/jobs/environments. Personally I prefer the 12-13" ultralight notebook, but there are times when a powerhouse like the P-Series comes in very handy. (Like when you're editing hours of CES footage in just a few minutes a day!)

We're hoping that we'll be able to review some light/thin notebooks from Gateway/Dell/HP in the near future... perhaps one of those will be more to your liking.
