It is thrilling to hear this mercurial artist, with his bewitching touch and sound, working magic with this piece. I think Mendelssohn himself would have been charmed! Many more people should listen to this post and add their knowledge about de Pachmann for our general edification. I think his eccentricities and antics were, in part, his ways of poking fun at not just his audience but at the cult of the performer. Surely, de Pachmann was a tone poet who produced iridescence and wrought spells.
