@Salieri1760 Except I never said "you aren't entitled to your own opinion." I only called you out on the way you criticized the orchestra. You could have said something like "the orchestra was struggling with the score" but instead you accused them of not practicing at all, which is ridiculous. You're entitled to your opinion but don't act like you know the amount of effort that went into a production that you had nothing to do with.
I'll say it again: Calm down. It's just high school theatre.
@Salieri1760 Are you seriously under the impression that the pit orchestra was just like "yo dee do time to perform" and they picked up the instruments and improvised or something? They had regular rehearsals, Sweeney is one of the most challenging scores in musical theatre. This is a high school. This particular high school is not allowed to cut people. Everyone gets in. There are varying degrees of talent.
Additionally calm down bro, this production went up two years ago.
Just the whole music aspect in the opening number.
I agree with the one guy, some of the cast would do that gesture thing and it really shows inexperience. Now we have all used them but the director should tell you.
The rest of the clip was fine. Opening number bothered me the most
You should tell your Sweeney Todd to watch Sweeney Todd - 1982 Touring Production on youtube. He needs a lot of work. This will show how to perform without looking so stiff and more at home on the stage. I am not trying to be mean, just trying to help out. Trust me these videos will help a lot.
obvioulsy you've never heard anything of the stage version that the movie is BASED ON Sweeney only has black hair with a white stripie in it in the film NOT in the stage version
We had two straight months of rehearsal along with a whole lot of people dropping out about halfway through, so the performing cast had about three weeks of rehearsal together.
have a look at that video that i just uploaded, thats a video of our most recent play, which wasnt a music, its just pictures but gives you a good idea.
Yeah, it was pretty terrifying when our original Lovett and our Johanna dropped out, so the awesome girl playing Beggar Woman got bumped up to playing Lovett, and another awesome girl who was in the ensemble was made to be Johanna. It was scary, but most of the switched parts ended up fine. :D
i agree. i was put in the onstage chorus at the last minute, along with jen b, and we really didn't have a lot of time to learn the stuff. but i think it work out all right in the end....as well as it could have, at least. :)
In terms of the chorus, yeah, I agree they were a little rough at times. In their defense though, some ensemble parts were switched around pretty last minute, and a lot of the people up there had a week or less to learn their parts.
Chorus: Not to keen on some of their voices.
Todd: Fantastic actor, strong vocal performance.
Anthony: Some of the acting was a little off, but he does seem to have the 'Anthony' persona.
Lucy/Beggar Woman: Well, Lucy is my least favorite character, but she did play the part very well both vocally and with her acting. :)

@mortology Hey I am calm
And I put up that comment a while ago
You are right I was being harsh and I do apologize for it
I'm sure they gave it all their effort
I think I had a bad day when I posted the comment
But out of all I was just being critical so I'll say sorry to the entire orchestra and we'll leave it at that
Okay?

I think you should murder your musical director for not having your muscians warm up & tune together :/ some of that was horrid.

this might be the musical for next year, but we have a lot of girls and there are not really that many parts
MissAsh53 2 years ago
my school put it on and the guy singing roles were raised and girls sang it,
though the chours was mainly girls we still needed 2 guy minors (the brid seller and mr fogg) both who were played by girls
i was mr fogg i just creeped my self up and i had long hair but it was greased back
if you do do it is an amazing show to put on.

pretty good. i just dont know why you guys had alms alms right at that part. ive always dreamed of directing a sweeney todd play of my own.
SuperDebbie 3 years ago
Yeah, they stuck Alms Alms there in the way early version of the play, and we were basically trying to do everything like the original production.
And Sweeney Todd is a reallyyyyy fun play to do. I reccomend being a part of any production you can possibly get involved in. :D

the first guy to sing was terrible...
actually all the chorus solo's were pretty SHIT!

You could be a little more constructive with your criticisms, but thanks for your opinion anyway. :D
PVHSArts 3 years ago
ok fair enough...
how long did you spend in rehersal stages?
sonicx666 3 years ago
We had two straight months of rehearsal along with a whole lot of people dropping out about halfway through, so the performing cast had about three weeks of rehearsal together.
PVHSArts 3 years ago
ahh i see, 3 weeks, thats not long.
we are doing it at the moment, we started rehersals in september after casting in july and we are on in late april.
this show is so complex and you need this amount of time to get it right.
sonicx666 3 years ago
Luckyyy.
Our school unfortunately does not allow that amount of time for rehearsal. D:
PVHSArts 3 years ago
yeh we have been rehersing 3 times a week sinse september, so its quite intense.
but it will be an amazing show. we are working on having actual rain on stage at the moment, for during epiphany.
