  • Seriously poor technique. If I were to see somebody riding like this, I would be compelled to stop him and talk to him about how much damage to the trail he is causing by skidding his rear tire. Everybody, hear me, let your rear wheel roll. Don't ruin it for the rest of us by causing trail erosion and washboards. LET YOUR WHEELS ROLL!

Control your speed by applying two to three times more force on your front brake than on your rear brake.

  • Excelente!!!!, cola dura, sin frenos de disco, amortiguador de 100 mm, barbaro!!!

  • FFuuuaaa Eso si que es EXTREMO !!! xD

  • i salute my heroes: John Tomac, Tinker Juarez, Missy Giove, Julie Furtado , Ned Overend, Greg Herbold, Ged Alangui, Myles Rockwell, Jason McRoy...

Gary Fisher, Joe Breeze, Tom Ritchey, Carles Kelly...Marin County... MOUNTAIN BIKING... one helluva ride guys. thank you!!!

  • MAGURAS?!?!

  • @lerlo

    so what?

  • @ItsKaczor Havent seen one for ages! They were the absolute SHIT back then!!

  • The bar ends are a character unto themselves.

  • In 1:30 he starts to ride

  • Legend.

  • Pure MTB, without any of those restrictions where you should buy this bike for this type of terrain, that bike for this other type of terrain, etc...

Just go out and have fun like John!!

  • he must have strong wrists..

  • awesome

  • leave horses alone

  • =O

    Fiquei sem palavras..

  • his kid just won the supercross lites in san deigo

  • É mesmo....! Never stop ride!!!! ;)

  • Please respect our trails. Don't skid your rear tire. Leave no trace.

  • @Realcautin Well if you happen to have access to a time machine, you can travel back to the 90's when this was being shot, and tell Mr. Tomac that.

  • @Realcautin You were still swimming in your fathers balls when he was skidding on those trails, and anyway

YOU RESPECT TRAILS, TRAILS RESPECT TOMAC

  • Its all about eli tomac now lol

  • DH today is known as XC back on the 90s.

  • you think hes fast you should see his son eli...

  • John Tomac... a LENDA VIVA DO MOUNTAIN BIKE!!!!

  • Real men ride hardtails :)

  • i have a John Tomac championship geometry hardtail Giant, im cliped in and won a few races on it. I stiil ride it to this day its still a great bike love it , now i pound the trail FS and cliped in peddle power 4ever GOGOGO.

  • as a 16 year old cat 1 rider......i love the tomac bikes................and u got to realize that this video is old............he was still using v-brakes............so don't worry about his technique...............he probly was just showing off for the camera

  • @idkidkidkidk22

Tomac has been hugely inspiring for me when i was starting to ride MTB bikes in the early 90's. Realy good XC/DH/Dual rider.

There were no V-brakes yet . In the video he was using Magura's hidraulic cantilevers.

  • Tomac truly is the best all around biker ever!

Actually Tomac rocked Magura Hydraulic rim brakes not Shimano V-Brakes.

  • Vamos a ver, ElJefe, ¡¿pero de qué hablas, tío?! ¿qué edad tienes? ¿de dónde has salido? ¡Es John Tomac! Por favor, documéntate un poco antes de decir cosas como éstas, y así evitarás hacer el ridículo.

  • I am 36 years old and have raced mountain bikes for over 15 years. i am also a Cat 2 racer and expert level BMX rider. I love Tomac. I have a Jersey of his. I am just saying that the rear brake skidding is not a great technique. Do not forget that most pro mountain bike riders barely ride mtn, they mostly ride road

  • what the hell are you talking about muppet

  • Slide it, Johnnie!

  • All that on a stiffy. This guy is insane

  • @surfingUSA100 Versatility. I learnt to ride on a fully rigid beast of a bike in the early 1990s, you learn how to be an efficient rider, how to pick out a fast line, and your limits! Still ride a hardtail now, can ride most terrain, just need to keep you weight back and speed up. And I can go up hills.

  • That's true. If you learn on a rigid anything else will seem easy.

  • nice rib ticklers Tomac!

  • As they say.

    It's not about the bike.

  • Absolutely amazing! The guy had mad skills.

  • wooow awsome!!!

    how old are you? 35?

you ride like somebody who rides already 50 years on a bike (very experienced!!!)

  • 1:34

  • Holy shit! He's a really crazy man/

  • Isn't it a road bike??? =S

    Crazy

  • wtf going off jump on that peice of crap

  • lmao thats so shit nice bike PAUSE NOT!! ahahaha fail

  • wow, what a fag.

  • that was cool.

  • just like the foward angle of that bike is nuts

  • Johnny T we miss you

  • I actually own a john tomac signature alu frame long time ago...

  • sweeet! John T was my hero. I think he's rocking Magura Hydralic rim brakes- only guessing from the Flo green colour. good times....... Take off your springs and feel the trail again peeps!!

    Peace

  • You don't need springs for a terrain like that!

  • JT is a legend!!!

  • Wow, great video. JT was a hero of mine when i first started mountain biking. The man could descend like few others could.

Cool seeing the old rock shox.

  • Tomac is stunning. I agree with commments. Not even using discs!

  • only john tomac could ride so fast that mountain whit that bike...AMAZING

  • Thanks for posting this video, it clearly shows why JT is a legend, AWESOME, with a RS mag21 and a XC frame, is clip NWD worthy

  • Dude, slow down!

  • it shows that he can ride the mountains with that bike..

  • shut up nooby

  • lawl

  • Toolbox

  • wow...rigid frame...clip-pedals...he is a hero!

  • @guitarristarob154 and V-BRAKE, not disc!

  • @guitarristarob154

If by "rigid frame" you meant one equiped with a Rock Shox Judy SL, and if by "clip-pedals" you meant clipless...then yes.

  • @guitarristarob154 a super-hero, you mean!!

  • @guitarristarob154

not to mention flat bar, 2" rockshox judy sl, and seat all the way up!

  • the best all-around mtb racer ever, period.

  • JT is da king! The MTB legend

  • Sweet ride--love the way he carves those corners!!

  • Yeah, awesome tail-sliding technique, makes it look so easy...

  • imagine how fast this guy would be if you gave him the 8" plus full sus rides people have today....

  • FreeRide in Lycra with bar ends - Old school - no fool!!! lol

  • hardtail the best

  • Is that a 30mm sys? And where the fuck are disc brakes?! xD

  • lol

    now that's skill

  • Woooo!

  • starts at 1:40

  • tomac is, arguably, the most relevant among the "fathers" of MTB...

He has been my idol for the last 18 years...

  • Yes, riders like Tomac and Overend are the legends mountain biking.

  • tomac is my gym teacher and he is shit.

  • do you think u could get me his autograph? =)

  • i don't think so, he will rather hit you and yell before give you autograph. watch out of him!

  • lol ... well ... he is John Tomac =)

  • hehe, true!

  • okay, you dont need a "downhill-bike"

but some more protection would make sence

  • Now that`s skillfull riding - NO need for 150mm or more to have lots of fun!!!!

  • DH on a XC MTB.....cooool

  • This was right at the start of the "downhill" scene - It's the manufacturers that say you need a downhill bike to go downhill. The reality of it is that you don't.

Anyway chances are that the frame is chromoly or carbon and would put up with way more abuse than the aluminium alloy crap pumped out by the manufacturers these days.

  • Comment removed

  • Man, i remember jumping milk crates behind A&P in owosso,mi, when we were just kids. You could even tell back then, he was gonna be a monster....ride on bro

  • this took me back in the days when MTB was a multidisciplinar sport. Palmer, Giove, Tomac, Juarez, Furtado... the real oldschool!!

  • I have met him ned overend and

    travis brown

  • they represent the golden era of mtb ... tinker, hans, lopes ... and dont forget furtado and giove

  • @zaskar1 Missed out Jason McRoy - could crank a bike so hard that he could warp the rear wheel.

  • dont forgetu gotta push ur bike bak up and is it me or does he skid alot?

  • I live where this is taken, and it is the steepest rideable mountain in durango....

  • I'm going out and putting drop bars and a Tioga disc on my bike. John Tomac rules!

  • was that Ted Nugent? lol Awesome!

  • The song is by joykiller

  • i am pretty sure that the pair of yres is for one ride xD nice vid

  • i bet they got worn pretty fast lol

  • it's incredible what he could do with that old bike

  • like another legend said

"its not about the bike" ... Lance A.

  • said the guy with a 10 million dollar contract with Trek

  • when was this made cos respect to the rider!

  • Retread was released in 1996 ...

  • bloody hell i didn think it would be that long ago!

  • yeah but the footage is pre season from 1995, while teasting the new giant atx 890. what the hell man this isnt that long ago ive still got that bike frame , the raleigh from the 1994 season is the one tho . wonder why they stopped using the disc wheel it was bad ass

  • anyone knows the song?

  • "go Bang" by joykiller ... its on the vid description

  • thanks a lot!

  • Un mito!

  • una leyenda ... realmente algo fuera de serie

  • The fastest man ever to ride the mountain bike. The greeks would have ruled him a god in ancient times, no question about it.

  • avete capito come si guida una mtb?... pazzesco un mito .. un uomo che cavalca un proiettile in discesa ... lui non rotola come tutti .. lui vola sulla terra .. sembra alla guida di un "overcraft"

  • You understand how to guide a mtb? ... A crazy myth .. A man who rides a bullet down ... He rolls as not all .. He flies on earth .. Seems to drive a "hovercraft"

    ...

La ringrazio molto per il tuo commento ... Egli è in realtà una vera leggenda

  • yeah! english words better than italian language.

  • The God of all things Mountain bike...Johnny T

  • BMX AND MTB GOD!!!

  • sure is ... glad you enjoyed the video

  • that trail looks sick! Utah?

  • i believe its durango colorado.

  • John Tomac es será siempre un icono del mountain bike. Ningun otro biker ha podido destacarse al mismo tiempo en dh y en xc.

  • Tomac is a legend! in a world today where biking is fragmented into lots of different disciplines, John Tomac could do it all. lets face it there will never be another rider like... or as good as Johnny T. great vid! but John in the dual slalom kamikaze at big bear still to this day blows my mind! long live the king

  • if you knew anything about JohnnyT, you'd know that he could throw his leg over a bike right now and smoke you on your local trails anytime...

  • wow...edgy footage...are you kidding me? so he slides his back end around a steep pitch at 20mph ...wow... sign him up for the X games today ! Get crazy and show him riding a tricycle !! that'd be awesome !

  • its a great video ... hopefully half the ppl who have seen it wil buy the DVD i believe its less than 10 bucks and its the two movies

  • the funny thing brightonbluebelt is that jt is one of the top riders in the history of the sport. Hes won more titles in more types of riding than any other rider... and yet you still bash him.

Why dont you try winning one title let alone over 10 world titles. Moron...

  • Maybe, this video isn't new. Maybe, its from when this stuff was cutting edge. Even if this stuff is from 20 years ago hes still probly better then you will ever be.

  • Gracias.

Johnny T is one of my all-time favorites. I mean, who can win both DH AND XC NORBA titles?!?!

  • its a really nice vid. glad you enjoyed it.

he is one hell of a rider

  • tomac es lo q al skate tony hawk...

  • muy buena analogia ... y cierta ... john tomac es de los pioneros y por mucho tiempo el icono del mtb ...

  • hes only braking?

  • i agree ... unless you are John Tomac

  • awesome video n beautiful trials

  • John Tomac es toda una leyenda ... este video me gusta y forma parte de un DVD que tengo la pelicula se llama Re-Tread. Saludos

  • eso si es ser rapido,,, y ser una leyenda del MTB
