i use markers to ad it works like this : for gray you can choose for an example between gray 1 wich is very ligh gray and choose gray 6 wich is very dark then between them you have gray 2 3 and 4 and i start with the light one and then build my way up leaving small spaces on every colour so the tint slightly builds up and has nice shading effect ...
wtf did you just do this all with marker? How does it shade so nicely? I use ink. Or are those paint markers?
