I find the sad thing to be that so many veterans are mentally ill. To an extent, yes, politicians use issues like this for political gain. But I'd rather they exploit compassion than fear and hate. This is a good issue to highlight. Some people who go to war develop mental illnesses/disorders that result in substance abuse (or the other way round). The same money that gives them the weapons to kill should be used to deal with the consequences, and if they need more, give it to them.

I agree completely with Bill O'Reilly. I am a combat veteran of Afghanistan and I WAS homeless for 6 months. I got out of the Army right after deployment, but my wife left me for another while I was deployed and wiped out my savings and put me in $10,000 of debt because she had power of attorney. I gave up and lived on the streets because there were no jobs. 2 years later I own my own profitable business, and am a college graduate. A man's destiny is his own, and not a government program's.

I had beds available to me, the GI Bill waiting for me to enroll, and any typical pedestrian showered me with support when they discovered I was a Vet. My point is that I was not ready to take help, as I'm sure other vets are not as well. The VA had the support; I just wasn't ready for it at that time. Yes, Vets choose to be homeless as I did as well.

bs bill,... these beds you are talking about are night cots in an open room, in the day you go back on the streets, nobody will hire you because you live on the streets, nobody will help you get off the street, i've been denied any service from the VA too many times, the last two months I got help from a friend, who can verify that this is true, the medical pushes you back on the street after two seconds of giving you aspirin for major medical problems.

Alot of vets are on drugs because they come home with massive issues and have no place to go to deal with it so they turn to pain pills and booze to cope with the pain. I had beds available to me, the GI Bill waiting for me to enroll, and any typical pedestrian showered me with support when they discovered I was a Vet. My point is that I was not ready to take help, as I'm sure other vets are not as well. The VA had the support; I just wasn't ready for it at that time. Yes, Vets choose to be homeless as I did as well.

What we need are better systems to take care of those with horrible PTSD, wounded warriors, and mentally disabled (exactly as you said). But I think O'Reilly and I both agree that we don't want Vets to be known as the welfare brigade of the tired and abused. We are proud, and deserve no more than the next man.

Alot of vets are on drugs because they come home with massive issues and have no place to go to deal with it so they turn to pain pills and booze to cope with the pain. My family has had over 12 men in the army out of those 12 4 died in battle and 3 have come back with mental issues ( my wife's uncle wakes up in the middle of the night screaming at the top of his lungs all the time the other 2 are addicts in rehab) we need to do more to help those who fight for our freedoms

The VAs program is a joke. They give you a little over 700.00 per month and maybe an eventual temporary job that pays minimum wage. Our credit is ruined, state and federal jobs do not honor preferential hiring guidelines. Civilian employers never touch us unless they are getting tax breaks or grant money.

Has anyone ever wondered how many times O'Reilly says 'shut up' to his guests?Someone PLEASE make a list of times that O'Reilly says 'shut up' to his guest on his show, and post it online. {{{Thumbs up so people can see and so someone ACTUALLY makes this lis t}}} I'd love to see some guy pull out a list and tell O'Reilly 'Sir, you've said 'Shut Up' to your guests on this show exactly ___ times' lol.. Im sure it would be in the thousands. Would love to see O'Reilly react to that...'SHUT UP'
