I met an off-duty Met Policeman in the pub the other night who was on duty during the recent student demos.

He kept going on about senior officers beforehand trying to ‘inspire the troops’ by showing DVDs of the film ‘300’, saying they were like modern-day Spartans facing the barbarian hoardes & how just like in 480BC they had to kettle them into narrow passes to ‘destroy’ them.
