On the other hand if you get caught with the murder weapon you are pretty much fucked. Why would you carry the only piece of incriminating evidence.

So if they did get caught with the gun, the police wont know who did it because bunches of people have that gun.

@FLYINHAWAIIAN37 Well each gun when fired leaves specific's groove's on the bullets fired. The bullets fired from a gun have groove's matching to the gun that fired it. Kinda like each ones of us has unique finger prints. So in essence from ballistic testing of the bullets found in the victim one can determine the exact gun they came from.
