  • In the 60's Marvin at times was called "The Black Frank Sinatra"....Sheeeeeeeeot! Sinatra couldn't hold Marvin's toe nail clippings. Marvin truly sang for the lovers, to fall in love, be in love, and make love with his music playing like a soundtrack for you and yours was heaven.

  • i think r kelly rips off or should i say borrows a LOT from marvin # step in the name of love. sam cooke , turn back the hands of time , and lenny williams , . but it is accurate NO BODY can sing like marv ,often duplicated but never as good. marvin could imulate the best nat king cole and ray charles but he was his own vocalist. thats whats missing today!!

  • I love his voice

  • When you get a minute check out my Video channel called:

    "Kato's Music Room" @ vodpod dot com/katosmusicroom

There are a LOT of inspirational messages from Bishop T.D Jakes, Bishop Noel Jones, Dr. Jamal Bryant, as well as complete episodes of my favorite TV shows like "TV One's Unsung", "I hate Chris" etc....You'll also find videos of my favorite music artist's like Marvin Gaye, Enchantment, Al Green & Gospel Music !

Your Blessed & highly favored beloved !

    in HIS service

    kato

  • Marvin Gaye is, was, and will forever be my favorite male singer of all time. Pure genius!

  • This brother was so sensual...

His Music did provide sexual healing for many of us during lovemaking

The first time I made love, "I want You" was playing on my cassette deck.

His music helped me, and HEALED during some very trying times......

These songs are dedicated to Nicci. Girl you were my first love

I think of you often....Thank You for allowing me in your life

  • @katofromgreenhornet ...WAIT A MINUTE---NICCI WHO??? lol...just kidding. I know how you feel. I Want You is my all-time favorite song, period. Few things anger me musically like the misuse of this wonderful song. I have heard some questionable remakes over the years.

  • Marvin brought his vocal harmony experience from his Doo Wop days with Harvey Fuqua and the Moonglows into his overdubbing on "I Want You". That technique may have been derived from the multi-tracking innovations of guitarist Les Paul.

  • Brilliant!

I love that Marvin used a Gregorian chant sound in such a sensual setting.

To me, it brings together the sacred & the secular as one common human experience, as opposed to leaving them artificially divided at the opposite ends of the human experience, which leads only to dysfunction-on all levels.

Thanks so much for re-posting this clip.:)

  • The baddest musician.

  • Priceless! There is no other way to put it! Greatest ever!

  • love this...

  • 1:20 excuse me for dying and reviving myself.

  • rhythm of guitar on i want u is Wah Wah Watson

  • @levoila99 Not true. I asked Leon Ware himself who played rhythm guitar and he told told me personally that it was Ray Parker, Jr. who played it.

  • How many people know that Ray Parker, Jr. played rhythm guitar on "I Want You"? Yes indeed.

  • @brotherfugue he also played on stevie 's talking book album and he was on the episode of sesame street with stevie. but i never knew about him being on i want you

  • @mjjcng8958 I had no idea either but when it comes directly from the writer/producer, you can't (successfully) dispute it. He surely knows who his session musicians were. Ray will probably never get the credit he richly deserves. The man even worked on Leo Sayers' early projects. I'd say Ray Parker, Jr, needs an episode on TV One's "Unsung".

  • @brotherfugue i agree. i didnt know until recently that he was also a singer. i just recently found out about the stevie/ motown connection. he was another great talent out of detroit

  • wow!!! This is a great video! Thats why Marvin wanted complete control over his music, only he could bring those voices together like that ! As if they were voices from heaven!! I never heard harmony like this berfore or after his death! Pure genius ,one of a kind there will never be another Marvin Gaye!!

  • His harmonizing ability was probably his most genious attribute, His vocals were the most entertaining and valuable, but his background vocals and vocal arrangment were unreal and underappreciated. On my favorite song fo his 9and maybe my favorite period) "Everybody Needs Love"...he really showcases it.

  • @KrfNYC2 I know this is a response to a comment you left a year ago, but I totally agree. I find it remarkable that hardly anyone gives recognition to his masterpiece, 'Everybody Needs Love'. Its one of the most neglected works of genius in his timeless catalogue of self produced songs.

  • @bolder2009 I know it. That song is timeless and just damn good. I'm about to listen to it now.

  • love the fact that he WROTE HIS OWN MUSIC!

  • where is this footage from

  • @mutalek It's from "American Masters: Marvin Gaye". It's on youtube in parts.

  • Notice at 0:29 the word HEAD stuck to the console. This was to sort of reassure himself to "go there" and deliver the "give you some head" line on "Soon I'll Be Loving You".

  • @brotherfugue I noticed that. I imagined it as a button that he would push to open a door out of a which a falacious woman would emerge and...perform.

  • Try To Tell People Marvin Is The Greatest Ever!

  • @bertmarx The only other artists I know of that have been able to self-harmonize as well as Marvin (three parts or better), are Charlie Wilson and Aaron Hall.

    Check Aaron's 1st CD, 1993's "The Truth".

  • yeah you they stole Marvins style.. I Hear In alot of singers.. but i will check that out

  • @brotherfugue Actually @bertmarx, Michael Jackson is the best after Marvin when it come to vocal background overdubs. Go back and listen to "Rock With You," "Leave Me Alone," and so on.

  • @mcallen8204 Michael was good but was never able to do much outside of his typical register. Just an opinion.

  • @mcallen8204 i dont kno mike was good but if you listen marvin is harmonizing intertwining his voice with his own. he got that from his days as in a doo woop group. mike didnt have that doo woop touch. so he isnt second to marvin at all imo
