Delightful playing. I find it interesting that you transformed the tune to a fast hornpipe..[from a single jig...but called a reel; at some point in time 6/8 or 4/4 wasn't always associated with a particular dance form]..kind of fits into my notion that some of the Nfld. repertoire is quite old, based on an earlier form of Irish music.[pre famine] If you're a reader of music I've got quite a bit of it written down. I could send you a few PDF's if you're interested.
Fantastic! Great!. Marvellous! Unique! By the way of music I want to show you what musicians of Brazil and Argentina are doing in folklore music with a accordion, fiddle, guitar, etc. If you want, please search for these 4 videos, really interesting and special and awesome:
- Voninho e Marcelo
- Tio Mederico- Dvd Os Serranos 40 anos- Sempre Gaúchos
- Faz que vai mas não vai - Adelar Bertussi
- CHANGO SPASIUK EN FORMOSA KILOMETRO 11 -10/10/2009 (4)
I know Bugs Greene. He plays fiddle too and does a great job on my song My Grandfather's Fiddle on my cd Natural. I like the way you add those extra grace notes in there. Where are you from? Newfoundland?? Cheers~Mike at triple w thesharecroppers d o t n e t (if you get my drift!!)
Sound really good , I just started playing accordion myself and was trying to follow along with your video but your just too fast. Was wondering if you or anyone can post the chords so I can learn this song. Like I said sounds really good and your doing an awesome job!
Hello...are you from Newfoundland? I noticed you are playing a Irish style Hohner Black Dot accordion with the two rows tuned a semitone apart...these accordions are rare in newfoundland...most Newfoundlanders play accordions with the rows tuned a 4th apart.
No, I'm not from Newfoundland, would love to live there though. I'm from Belfast N.Ireland, but living in England now. The box is a B/C and I play Irish, Scottish, Ulster and newfie music,I like newfie tunes because they add a certain lift to a party.
Hey! Thanks for your responce. I'm a Newfoundlander currently living in St. John's, Newfoundland...althought I was born and raised in Twillingate, Newfoundland. I believe this tune is called the Huskey Reel (even though it's not a reel). I love the ornaments you add to the tune. Beautifully played. Thanks again.
No not really, I only know like one other song that he does - it has 3 tunes in it; one french newfoundland tune, a polish tune i think, and ends with the newfie boogie, Very very similar, almost the same as "in the mood".
But hes from pretty much the same place as where i'm from - like 20 mins in difference of communities.
Anyone know where I can dots for this tune?

This is a Hohner Double Ray Irish Accordion - Some call it a 'Black Dot'.
B/C is a common 'key combination' although this model is also available in C#/D as well.
Great tune and post!
