its always great to see a third gen beat up on newer imports. and to help clarify things for people. the iroc was last produce half way thru 1990 due to chevy not renewing there sponsorship. and like people have stated no 350 third gen came from the factory with a manual with the exception of the 92 firehawk which had a 6-speed. the reason behind this was the t-5 could not handle the torque that the L98 produced so if your car has this combo, check the rpo code, since something was swapped
both cars are nice anyways , i dont understand why ppl always bash on other cars, i own a 92 firebird with a 305 tbi , it came with 170 hp from factory lol, after 18 years it probably is pushing 120 to the wheels, anyways im happy with it, i get around 17 mpg combined and thats good enough i dont drive much anyways, with a little under $1500 i can just swap a 350 on it and rly wake the thing up, thats why i like them cuz they are easy to mod and cheap to make it go fast.
I own a built 87 Iroc.. and i can tell you this right now. There was NO manual option for an L98. There was to much torque so they mated it with a 700R4 instead. Who ever sais that there is a manual option is probably a 13-16 yr old that clearly needs to do some research perhaps on thirdgen.org in which im a forum member.
Not a stock IROC. No IROC ever came with a 350 and a 5 speed. All 350 cars were auto. Now, you could get a 305 with a T5. For those who know, I am aware of the 1LE cars, but they are rare.
ya this car is not stock at all. the T5 was out of a 305 Camaro. The trans is going to go out before anything else on the car, it was never made to hold up to the power its making with my new motor.

No sorry but your actually wrong, the 350 did come in a manual option. Although it is not seen very often it was an option. I would know because I have a 89 iroc-z Completly original and has been in my family since it came off the lot. And it the 5.7 tuned port injected 350 with the manual transmission.

Also, IF your IROC is a 5 speed with a 350, either there was a transmission or engine swap. to everybody here look up both of these cars specs for 87 then look them up for 2002 since that was the last year of camaro til 2010 then see who realy wins
EXHAUST IS NOT ENGINE WORK.... if he would replace internals it would probably be pistons and if he is only boring out that little it wouldn't be worth buying expensive high comp pistons... a .30 bore gives you a 355 ish...

Then the other updates it and makes it faster aka the 350z in 03 then in 05 mustang updated. in 09 the 370z came out beating the mustang. Then now the mustang has updated and soon the Z will be refreshed too. I just go with what i like the most. I don't do track days and any car can be made quicker so all i pay attention to is looks and i like the Z car look more
idk but they just refreshed the gtr 0-60 in 2.9 and 1/4 mile in 11.2 So i bet the Z will be next. well i know that from 90-04 the Z car was faster than the mustang. then in 05 06 they were tied then in 07 08 the Z inched ahead and in 09 10 11 it demolished the mustang. Now the 5.0 is out and is faster than the Z. To beat the 5.0 they will have to turbo the Z or for the first time give it a v8

if you remember he also stated the fully loaded z06 is practically a zr1 minus the engine. And the zr1 costs something like $20k more i think without any options. Also the Zr1 is still slower to 60 and just .2 faster in the 1/4 mile. So why spend the extra $20k for a car that is no faster and made of cheap plastics and harder to drive.

Same engine? The z06 has a 7L LS7 while the zr1 has a 6.2L LS9. IF you look at the nurburgring times the gtr is much more than a straight line performer. In 2011 nissan tested the gtr around the ring and did a lap faster than gm got their corvette zr1 around it. ALso it went around faster than evo magazine got their maserati mc12, their ferrari enzo.and faster than their pagani zonda. So it is a good track car. These tests are all well documented and done by pros.
top gear is a tiny track. If you don't know what the nurburgring is it is a 12 mile track in germany where all companies take their cars to set a lap time it is a sort of bench mark. The fact that the gtr is faster around that track means it is a better track car. The tiny top gear test track is not an full absolute test of what the car can do it is a small technical track.
Ummm ok i know that you know how to use wikipedia. It has a chart of times that are all cited. Search Nürburgring lap times. Or look at what i tell you.
2011(last gen) nissan gtr stock with stock wheels and tires recorded a lap time of 7:24.22
There are several times recorded for these two cars and the times i just gave you are their best documented laps under stock configuration. So last gen gtr was over 2 secs quicker
You are only upset because you've been proven wrong about something. Your precious ZR1 being beatn around the ring by a last gen gtr. Just accept the fact it is a great car. While i believe the zr1 is a really good car and a ledgend. I believe the gtr to be a better car. It better represents what todays technology can really do. While the corvette uses raw power the gtr uses technology in addtion to loads of grip and power. Atleast $25k cheaper too.
About how you said the gtr was 3 seconds slower. When it was actually 2 seconds faster. And looks are definatly a personal preference. I think they both look sick. You take the corvette and i'll take a 2012 gtr and $20k in my pocket then burn you at a stop light :P
Perhaps then i'd spend $15k and get the switzer p800 tune. Search switzer p800 vs bughatti veyron. That set up is $15k and reworks the suspension and adds about 400hp

Umm since when where 350z's $20k?? I've owned two and yes one was 20k plus but the other was only 11k and there are loads of them for going around 11k. I never said i had anything against getting an older car to build into a track car. I was talking about haveing and everyday driver that you also race. You would rather have a camaro and i would rather have a Z. And as far as mpg go if you were to go out and buy a 1987 camaro with a properly tuned 350 you would be expecting 18-20 mpg and that is driving like a granny. 350z is 19-25 mpg.
Well i don't know the stock mpg but modded it has terrible mpg. The good thing is that i can turn the boost down to stock boost and it gets much better mpg. If i have it turned up to 16psi it tends to drastically drop my gas mileage.
@jabba12000 You do realize that the Camaro never came with more than 245 hp and the 350z came with about 300-305 hp. .30 over and an exhaust after 14 years of wear and tear, that's like what, 240 hp? Lol. Weight difference is only about 200 pounds.

In 2011 nissan tested the gtr around the ring and did a lap faster than gm got their corvette zr1 around it. ALso it went around faster than evo magazine got their maserati mc12, their ferrari enzo.and faster than their pagani zonda. So it is a good track car. These tests are all well documented and done by pros.

top gear is a tiny track. If you don't know what the nurburgring is it is a 12 mile track in germany where all companies take their cars to set a lap time it is a sort of bench mark. The fact that the gtr is faster around that track means it is a better track car. The tiny top gear test track is not an full absolute test of what the car can do it is a small technical track.

Ummm ok i know that you know how to use wikipedia. It has a chart of times that are all cited. Search Nürburgring lap times. Or look at what i tell you.
2011(last gen) nissan gtr stock with stock wheels and tires recorded a lap time of 7:24.22
The C6 ZR1 stock ran a lap time of 7:26.4.
There are several times recorded for these two cars and the times i just gave you are their best documented laps under stock configuration. So last gen gtr was over 2 secs quicker

You are only upset because you've been proven wrong about something. Your precious ZR1 being beatn around the ring by a last gen gtr. Just accept the fact it is a great car. While i believe the zr1 is a really good car and a ledgend. I believe the gtr to be a better car. It better represents what todays technology can really do. While the corvette uses raw power the gtr uses technology in addtion to loads of grip and power. Atleast $25k cheaper too.

About how you said the gtr was 3 seconds slower. When it was actually 2 seconds faster. And looks are definatly a personal preference. I think they both look sick. You take the corvette and i'll take a 2012 gtr and $20k in my pocket then burn you at a stop light :P
Perhaps then i'd spend $15k and get the switzer p800 tune. Search switzer p800 vs bughatti veyron. That set up is $15k and reworks the suspension and adds about 400hp

First off you're not smart just because you can look up the 0-60 times of a car. Secondly i'm not seeing how you've grilled me. Besides originally i was speaking about the Z car that existed back when this iroc was made. In 1990 the 300zx was faster than the iroc and so of course the newer 350z is going to be quicker too. You must just be a mustang fan boy. You probably drive an old rust bucket and believe yourself to be better than everyone else.

Yes the fact that i've had now 2 350z's and a 300zx tt that all have had stleast 60k miles on them and still perform great. But my main statement was the fact that the Z was faster than the iroc if it where new. I should have specified that i ment the 300zxtt and the iroc z

@jabba12000 I like the shorter base of the 370z better. Plus, I think the lights look more aggressive. I don't call every Japenese car a fucking ricer, but I do believe ford at the moment is building a better combination for a sports car than Nissan is. I don't think anybody except pure rednecks like the 1980's stock camaros. They were ugly and slow. The 1980's mustangs, man... they were light, turned well for their time, and hold plenty of enough power (over 300 ft lbs of torque for a 2500

@jabba12000 why spend $20,000+ on a 350z and then do performance work. seems like a waste of money when you can get a good IROC Z for ~$5000 and then have tons of money left over to make it even faster than a 350Z. doesnt make any sense to me? for the cost of a stock 350z you could have like a 500+hp 3rd Gen. seems like the better choice..

Umm since when where 350z's $20k?? I've owned two and yes one was 20k plus but the other was only 11k and there are loads of them for going around 11k. Why buy and old heavy piece of shit with an old blown out motor when you could get a much better handling car with more power stock and loads more things like cd player,air,abs,tcs,higher safety rating,better gas,and the list goes on.

@jabba12000 then for 11k you can buy an LS1 F-Body which has all that and is still faster than a 350z. im just saying for the money you could spend on a stock 350Z you could make an IROC just as good or better. and still have money in the bank. Cars in the 80's have all that also. why are you worrying about gas mileage if your are buying it to race? an LS1 gets just as good MPG as a V6 350z.

I never said i had anything against getting an older car to build into a track car. I was talking about haveing and everyday driver that you also race. You would rather have a camaro and i would rather have a Z. And as far as mpg go if you were to go out and buy a 1987 camaro with a properly tuned 350 you would be expecting 18-20 mpg and that is driving like a granny. 350z is 19-25 mpg.

Well i don't know the stock mpg but modded it has terrible mpg. The good thing is that i can turn the boost down to stock boost and it gets much better mpg. If i have it turned up to 16psi it tends to drastically drop my gas mileage.

@jabba12000 You do realize that the Camaro never came with more than 245 hp and the 350z came with about 300-305 hp. .30 over and an exhaust after 14 years of wear and tear, that's like what, 240 hp? Lol. Weight difference is only about 200 pounds.
