I have just completed reading Alistair Urquharts ( ex Gordon Highlander) story 'The Forgotten Highlander' and of his time as a prisoner on the death railway after the fall of Singapore. He was a prisoner on the Kachidoki Maru which was torpedoed by the USS SealionII. This tragedy could have been avoided if the Japs had painted a red cross on the side, but this mark was only accorded for ammunition ships.

i have also just read this book - an amazing story highly recommended, you will not be able to put it down. i don't think these men will ever get the gratitude they deserve. As SubRescue mentions - These are an incredible generation of men, thanks for posting.

Wonders if anyone who has anything to do with this event remembers a Private S T Whiley? He was one of the 127 that was rescued.
