  • i thought i was a good discus thrower.... and then i look at these guys and i'm like shit i suck

  • Gers Kanter rules!!!!!!!!!

  • If you swing your left arm in the beginning of the full south African instead of just swinging with it ,it will increase the momentum of the rotation.

  • Favorite NIN song at the beginning... you wouldn't happen to be DIII's Dan Hytinen would you? Signs point to yes, but still...

  • i like the ote and catabrian coming out with some new discs again

  • My best discus throw is 99 feet, i just started a week ago, and i've only practiced three times for one hour each time.

My best shot-put throw is 40 feet

  • !!!!! HOW DO THEY THROW WITH THAT MUCH FORCE AND NON REVERSE??? if i did that id fly out of ring

  • @shalom1181 Reverse is optional, your body type obviusly can't spin so quickly without revese at the end. their bodies can appearently. Some can, some can't, it's not a bad thing. i don't do reverse and yet I throw like shit at 35 meters xD.

  • @shalom1181 They are counterbalancing the force by leaning out and down to the right rather dramatically. Throw as if you are wiping the outside of the circle with a towel, and feel as if you are going to fall out to the right. Then when you throw hard those angles provide counterbalance. You should be a tall thrower with long arms to try to throw well without a reverse.

  • A powerful throw is wonderful.

  • Looks like they were throwing out of a closet...narrow cage.

  • what brand of discs do yall like to use?

    im a Saturn II fan

  • my best in 24 meters

  • my best is 33 1/2 meters

  • i would say it all depends on the release and the whip of a spin my my guess would be roughly or at least 65mph from good throwers

  • for me i think rutger is the nalbandian of discus. If you beat him, then you know your good, if not, then your not a top tier discus thrower.

Hes like the marking point you know?

  • I believe that the throwing style is mainly based off of what country you're from. Look at junior championships, specifically at the estonian, german and russian. then look at their adult counterparts, almost identical.

I believe thats why Rome and Walts have similar techniques, probably have the same coach.

I wanna see what AUS technique is, as I;m form there and havent seen any big discus throwers from my country yet =(.

  • Assuming AUS is Australia and not Austria, you guys have Ben Harradine, Scott Martin and a girl named Dani Samuels.

And I know what you're talking about, technique really does seem to go with country. The Iranians have a quirky little lookback out the4 back of the ring, and the Germans almost always go non-reverse.

  • did Keshmiri do that lookback too?

  • Yeah I know what your saying, haha, isnt Pestanos release just a little fruity?

And por waltz and Rome, tehy suck compared euros, Im american and all, but they just arent that good, we need a nother Mac Wilkins

  • Ian Walts is a freakin' beast

  • have you heard the story where he threw over 200 ft. at Idaho's state track meet and they didn't have a long enough tape? hahaha!

  • ha thats insane

  • do you know what his best throws in high school were?

  • think 203s to 205s

  • what is this song called

  • Everyday Combat by Lostprophets

  • looks like Pestano is always afraid that he will foul in big championships

  • Yes, always.. always...

  • estonia-best discus trowers country;)

  • Harting is gonna be one of the few to go over 70m. no doubt about it!

  • yeah he is a beast. hes my favorite thrower right now and i cant wait to see his progression throughout his career

  • hes a really likeable guy, i love the way he wears his goatee/beard

  • i was just thinking in my open experiences i found very unpleaseasnt to throw under hot and humid conditions and ive never thrown in a high pollution conditions but it cant help anyones situation. Im just saying what a horrible choice it was to choose beijing for the games. I hope nelson, hoffa and cantwell are still competiting at the same level when they have it in london I really wanna see an all american sweep of the medals it was shocked when i saw the results this year.

  • yea i guess...but you gotta admit the shot put was a big shocker i mean i was hoping for a US sweep of the medals

  • I thought Virgilijus Alekna would win another gold at the 2008 Olympic Games guess i was wrong!!!!!

  • Nice Throw compilation bro...keep them coming!!!!

  • Piotrek Małachowski rulezzz!!

  • unfortunetly he wasnt a top thrower at the time i made this vid, otherwise he would be in it

  • @hytinendc18 Are you going to do another video for the 2012 Olympics?

  • Alekna musu Saunuolis!!! Lietuvos Garbe!!!

  • does anyone think these numbers are alittle weak in both the shot put and discus. And not to mention the major upset in shot put. makes me think there something up with the climate or pollution or possibely both affecting the throwers. I know i dont throw well under oppressive heat and i cant imagine smog helps you throw very well. just a thought

  • i think it did. numbers were pretty damn low

  • I think conditions would affect other sports much more than throwing.. At the 2004 Olympics with "better" conditions the top 3 shot put distances were all lower than the distances at the 2008 games. For discus, only Alekna's record throw was further, the second and third place throws were much less.

  • also, most of the big discus throws Like 71.88 (Kanter) and 71.25 (Alekna) usually come very early in the season and the numbers level off after that. You could also look at the level of competition, i mean in 2005 in Helsinki Kanter and Alekna just kept beating each others marks back and forth and the final mark ends up being 70.17, whereas in Beijing, after 4th round, nobody could really contend with Kanter's 68.82 mark.

  • HAHAHHAHAHHAHAA

Kanter it Olympic games winner!!!! hahhaaa

  • mario pestanoooooooooo

  • alekna

  • good vid compilation.

  • alekna is my idol. =]

when i first saw him throw disk, i got really interested in discus, i joined track and field in high school. my first time sucked, but i never gave up, i studied every thrower's techniques and i improved. i swear i can almost throw like alekna because i got in second place in championship meet. i will always idolize alekna forever. =]

  • Alekna is the best !

  • what song is this

  • lostprophets - everyday combat

  • mario pestano forever!!!!

    go 70 !

  • sorry i did mistake in his surname. yes i knew it.

  • alekna said that orter won the olympics when he was 40 years old. so him point was that he try to train for the next olypics and maybe win, if his health will be ok. if someone care im from lithuania.

  • did you know that Oerter won an olympic title while he had a broken rib and a pulled neck muscle

  • my prediction

1st- Alekna(yes he is old but if he pulls one good one he might get the gold and then probably retire.)

2nd- Kanter( hes going to be my favorite after alekna retires)

3rd- Hadidi( because he is young and fresh and throws almost 70m)

  • Alekna has had wonderful career; 2 gold medals, 2nd longest throw in history, he had a 27 meet win streak, and he has the best throw average in history. So i think he will retire after these olympics regardless of if he wins. besides he gets paid a ton for being a bodyguard

  • Alekna is a body guard for the Lithuanian Prime Minister

  • hadadi is without experience, si i think 1st Alekna ~72m, 2nd Kanter ~70m, 3rd Hadadi or Harting ~69m

  • that is true, but i think hadadi will go over 70m. he might even take 3rd with a 70m throw

  • i agree. Hadadi actually set the asian record three times in his last ten days of competition before olympic training session: 1st=68.52m 2nd=69.12m and 3rd=69.32. so a 70m throw is all too possible.

  • Does anyone notice how Gerd Kanter uses a different technique when he is in a closed stadium than when he is in an open ring not in a stadium?

  • really?

  • yeah whenever he is indoors he throws without as much diagonal motion as when he is outdoors just look closely and you can see a difference from the 1st throw and the 2nd and 3rd

  • each thrower has a unique style (except for Ian Waltz and Jared Rome who throw almost exactly the same). I love Robert Harting who uses the Hard Block style

  • I want to see Hadadi come out of nowhere and win it!! I love his low to the ground style of throwing. I'm hoping Kanter takes 2nd and Robert Harting 3rd!!!!!

  • The amazing thing is that any one of these guys could possibly explode in Beijing and win it

  • what is the name of the song playing?

  • lostprophets - everyday combat

  • ty just bought on itunes :)

  • I'd say

    1st : Hadadi

    2nd : Alekna

    3rd : Kanter

But I really hope Alekna is going to win :D.

  • unfortunately for these guys, only one is going to win gold :(

  • predictions: 1st= Kanter, 2nd= Alekna, 3rd= Hadadi

  • thats a wicked cool video!!!
