Does anyone know who played the clown on Barnaby. He was also on Captain Penny and was on 2 episodes of Bozo The Clown. He also worked entertainment shows for Higbee's in the 1960's and performed as a circus act with his wife Dorothy in the 1950's and into the 70's. He goes by the names, Shunny, Alex and Frank.
RON PENFOUND (Captain Penny) was very much still alive when I met him for the last time in Naples, Florida in 1973. He was my first autograph and I still can't fool Mom!
I remember my mom talking about Miss Barbara. However I came up in the 70s during Miss Sally's time on Romper Room. I wanted to be on that show so badly. I thought it was too koo...even if they NEVER called my name.
I want you all to know I was a member of "The Non-Scratch Club" because when I had the measles, I didn't scratch them. Love to Captain Penney for so many terrific memories.
Ohhhhh, wonderful. I have applied Captain Penney's sign off statements to my life. Such wonderful memories. I grew up in the Akron area. Mr. Jingeling, wonderful.
There was no better local tv than in Cleveland. Let's not forget Big Chuck & Hoolihan, The Ghoul & Super Host!! I went to Sackett Elementary and Lincoln Jr. and then Lincoln High. From '71-'79. Anybody else??
I frigging started to cry when I saw the magic mirror! Wow. That took me waaaay back to a magical childhood that I was so lucky to have had, and local Cleveland programming and PBS were such a big part of it! Thanks for posting!
I don't believe it. Miss Barbara just saw ME! The Romper Room teacher never said my name (Diana) when I was a little kid, but she finally just saw me through YouTube. Only took me to age 33.
Mister Jingleling's real last name was Keys. His wife was my English teacher at Westlake High. She was such a nice lady. Always looked forward to his stories during christmas time.
I remember Romper room...O.K . kids, simon says: rub jam on your shirt, pick your nose, write down "1961", now turn it upside down, it is STILL 1961...
Wow,I remember going on the transit to downtown Cleveland at christmas time and was so excited to see Mr jingeling and get my key and go to the twigbee shop.Great memories.
OMG! My brother and I were actually on Mr. Jingeling around 1968, maybe the high point of our lives. For a kid in northern Ohio, it didn't get any better than this.
I LOVE IT! My sister and I were just talking about all these people! We both do not live in Ohio now, but we grew up with these shows! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE MEMORIES!
Captain Penny - you live forever in this Cleveland girl's memory. We would run home from school for lunch from East Clark/Collinwood area to catch your show - remember the doggies and -pussy cats every thursday Pooch Parade?! I miss you Captn Penny I love you (you can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all the time....BUT YOU CAN't FOOL MOM.
I remember Mrs.Barbara Plummer. She was a Sunday School Teacher at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Mayfield Hts,Ohio in the early 70s when our family attended there & she was just as nice in person as she was on screen. Nothing phony about her at all like there are with some of todays celebraties. Very nice lady & some wonderful memories here also.
POP QUIZ: does anyone remember the famous tagline at the end of romper room? Anyone who grew up in cleveland during the sixties has this memorized: "You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you can't fool...."
We that grew up in the 60's in Cleveland are like the "lost boys /girls in Peter Pan! I moved away in 1970, and t.v. was not the same for this 7 year old
If you think that clip is amazing do a search on "channel 61 ghoul". God I had forgotten all about that wierdo. I was glued to the TV from age 5 on... My dad used to come home late on the weekends and say "are you watching that happy hippy again?"
I'm getting ready for a birthday and feeling really old/nostalgic. Take your pic. My kids missed out by not having Mr. Jingeling, Ghoulardi, Barnaby, and Captain Penny. Romper Room was even too sweet for me!
I thought Ron Penfound committed suicide, but they say he died of cancer?
I watched Koko the clown "out of the inkwell comes koko th clown, the funniest clown that ever came to town late 60's. anyone recall that. I agree with Captain Penny! "You can't fool mom"
I thought KoKo the Clown was from the early 50s. I swear I'm right. Koko was on the Red Goose Merry Go Round with Kousin Kay (Walt Kay) on Channel 8.
Thanks Buck, I was really little watching KoKo the clown, i have looked on line and there are other koko the clowns dating back to the 20's. I recall it very clear and remember the song. I will go research more with the info u sent today.
I never thought I would ever see these shows again. The memory flood gates have open up! I feel sorry for the new geration that looks forward to watching dancing with the stars on dvd. Home made tv was the best. God bless you for the videos.
I visited channel 5 and was on the Captain Penny show (Cub Scout Troop)! I was shocked to see how young Ron Penfound was! I was also shocked to see a giant rear projection screen, projecting the locomotive! .. Also had my name read on Romper Room..
In addition to Mr. Jingeling, Earl Keys also played Mr. Nicklesworth on the Captian Penny show ( I also met him )...That was a looooooooong time ago! And Ted Henry, you need a new rug!
Lynn Sheldon was Barnaby--his cousin lived down the street from us when we were growing up.
