I am 57 and have been alone since my wife of 32 years walked out on me 5 1/2 years ago. I have always loved this song but now I know that it is not always possible to Make Love Stay. I only wish I could have made it stay with the person I thought was the love of my life. Like telamon2011 I don't really believe in love any longer either. Love is an illusion and does nothing but break your heart.

I remember hearing this song on the radio way back in late 1982 when it was a hit, and the DJ made a joke about the song conttaining the word "exhunned." The joke aside, this is still a beautiful song that poses a question that, as far as I know, nobody has ever found the answer to.

@telamon2011 Sounds like the love you have in your illusions is that which you are supposed to receive from somebody else, and since you don't receive it, you'll wait until after death where you'll do nothing but receive love. I've been disillusioned by love too, bro. It makes death desirable, I know too well. However, the love that God intends for us while in the flesh is that which gives more than it receives. We are commanded to love those who do not love back. Heal sombody elses pain.

All other forms of "love" are either arrangements for convenience sake or just infatuation and lust. Blood is thicker than water and blood is the only tie that binds. All other forms of so-called love are illusions as you mention.

@telamon2011 There is no scripture that says that God loves unconditionally. Even John 3:16 shows that only the faithful will have everlasting life. In fact, the bible shows that there are specific requirements to remaining in God's love and that God will leave those who leave him. But we are also told that God IS love so you can be sure that your loneliness has not gone unnoticed and that your love of God's standards are appreciated by him. Virginity and chastity, too, have value in God's eyes.
