I own an 04 stock TL auto and I've beat a newer mustang GT from 0mph to 70mph and then he let off, the TL in this video jumped the gun a bit so would have been far better win for GT if both started at same time, lets call it how it is. Fun tho.

First of all, the Camaro was non-existent for 10 of those years and so the Mustang had no real homeland competition in that class. Secondly, Ford has chosen to develop out brand new architectures from the ground up, namely the modular engines, instead of taking easy street and sticking with push rods. Thirdly, Ford has kept up with emission regulations WITHOUT disabling cylinders.
@9b8 Yeah, overall I think they've become a really good company not to mention they didn't take any bail-out monies. I think that fact says a lot about a company and they have my respect for it. I would really like to have an ’11 5.0 – those beasts are awesome. But, I really never liked they first modular 4.6 Mustangs in the ‘90’s, they just didn’t do it for me. @mekque Yeah, well, I can also be critical and agree with you, too! I din't care much for the Mustangs after the 5.0's either. But then out of nowhere came the 2003-2004 cobras and that sparked it again. But I do think a lot of folks miss the boat about the difference in complexity of engine design, especially regarding head design. Ford has had its share of failure along the way, but the BIG picture is success. The fact that a 5.0L coyote head outflows the larger 6.2L LS3 head is a noble feat.
@mekque Just look at the rest of the automotive engineering world. Nearly everyone else are downsizing their engine sizes in favor of learning how to make more power with less and thus more potent powerplants. Arguably, the Japanese have been pioneers in this potency approach albeit not with a V8 platform. But Honda is now developing a production V8, the BMW S65 4.0L V8 dropped mouths when they did it (>400 HP out of 4.0L), and the list goes on and on.
@9b8 Honda’s interested in a production V8?! That’s actually something to look forward to. What are they going to use it in? I would guess maybe their Ridgeline? Me personally, I love the sound of a Ford small/big block. There is nothing that sounds as distinct as those engines. @mekque Yes, Honda is pursuing a production V8 platform. But its for their supercar, their NSX successor, for now. It is intended to be direct competition to the GT-R. They are also considering developing a V8 to compete in the sports sedan sector and maybe even their Ridgeline. I am like you on the SBF and high revving flat-pane V8s. That is why I like the new 5.0L coyote, Boss 302 in particular so much. It seems to be a good balance of both: decent torque AND high revving!
@mekque Search YouTube for HSV010 and check out their test cars! They look and sound frick'n awesome. Honda isn't playing around. They are bringing it! The GT-R had better be sweating profusely, all I can say. With Honda's experience in F1, they have a LOT of intel on how to build V8 screamers. But about the coyote engine, yes it took them 20 frick'n years! LOL. I think the key people in the modular platform had that vision since the beginning. It has been very tumultuous progress for them.
@9b8 Honda announced they weren't making any V8s in production vehicles to stay green and they wanted to stay by that. I don't care who the manufacturer is.. You can't make big power gains with small power plants with cost and MPG in mind. Notice all the cheap 2.0 4cyl cars on the market pressing for 300hp, but can't even get better gas mileage than a 3600lb v8 stang.
@Texarmageddon I would like to know where you got that info from about Honda not making a production V8. The latest info I've found reinforces that they are commiting to a V8 platform, slated for around 2015 time frame. And it actually IS possible to get "good" gas mileage and power out of a smaller power plant. Many of the top V6's in the 3.0L-3.5L range are hovering around 300HP and 30mpg with favorable conditions.

I am kind of skeptical that Honda would jump in head first, though. 300HP out of a 2.0-2.5L 4 cylinder is a tall order unless turbo charged to keep linear consumption down. But there is a limit of course.

The idea was to compete with the Lexus LFA and other super cars as a 'next gen' NSX. But the word has gone silent in the last 6 months, so I don't know the latest. With the market conditions, they could change their mind.

the gt is a vert which will make it slower.. the tl has 258 hp stock to the GT's 260.. the tl has 233 ft lb of torque vs the GT's 303 and weighs 200 pounds more. explain to me how its faster?

actually you're wrong. Honda didn't pioneer the first cam lift technology. GM did, although it was a failed project and they eventually abandoned it after they started seeing problems in cars that were produced with the system. Honda took that concept to its motorcycles and saw success, then made their first VTEC system in the '91 NSX in the U.S. In Japan and Europe, VTEC was introduced in 1989 in the B16A in the Integra, Civic, and CRX.

I own an 04 stock TL auto and I've beat a newer mustang GT from 0mph to 70mph and then he let off, the TL in this video jumped the gun a bit so would have been far better win for GT if both started at same time, lets call it how it is. Fun tho.

@mekque Come on now, don't hate that much...You are missing a truck load of variables. First of all, the Camaro was non-existent for 10 of those years and so the Mustang had no real homeland competition in that class. Secondly, Ford has chosen to develop out brand new architectures from the ground up, namely the modular engines, instead of taking easy street and sticking with push rods. Thirdly, Ford has kept up with emission regulations WITHOUT disabling cylinders.

I would really like to have an ’11 5.0 – those beasts are awesome. But, I really never liked they first modular 4.6 Mustangs in the ‘90’s, they just didn’t do it for me. @mekque Yeah, well, I can also be critical and agree with you, too! I din't care much for the Mustangs after the 5.0's either. But then out of nowhere came the 2003-2004 cobras and that sparked it again. But I do think a lot of folks miss the boat about the difference in complexity of engine design, especially regarding head design. Ford has had its share of failure along the way, but the BIG picture is success. The fact that a 5.0L coyote head outflows the larger 6.2L LS3 head is a noble feat.

Nearly everyone else are downsizing their engine sizes in favor of learning how to make more power with less and thus more potent powerplants. Arguably, the Japanese have been pioneers in this potency approach albeit not with a V8 platform. But Honda is now developing a production V8, the BMW S65 4.0L V8 dropped mouths when they did it (>400 HP out of 4.0L), and the list goes on and on.

@mekque Yes, Honda is pursuing a production V8 platform. But its for their supercar, their NSX successor, for now. It is intended to be direct competition to the GT-R. They are also considering developing a V8 to compete in the sports sedan sector and maybe even their Ridgeline. I am like you on the SBF and high revving flat-pane V8s. That is why I like the new 5.0L coyote, Boss 302 in particular so much. It seems to be a good balance of both: decent torque AND high revving!

The GT-R had better be sweating profusely, all I can say. With Honda's experience in F1, they have a LOT of intel on how to build V8 screamers. But about the coyote engine, yes it took them 20 frick'n years! LOL. I think the key people in the modular platform had that vision since the beginning. It has been very tumultuous progress for them.

@9b8 Honda announced they weren't making any V8s in production vehicles to stay green and they wanted to stay by that. I don't care who the manufacturer is.. You can't make big power gains with small power plants with cost and MPG in mind. Notice all the cheap 2.0 4cyl cars on the market pressing for 300hp, but can't even get better gas mileage than a 3600lb v8 stang.

The latest info I've found reinforces that they are commiting to a V8 platform, slated for around 2015 time frame. And it actually IS possible to get "good" gas mileage and power out of a smaller power plant. Many of the top V6's in the 3.0L-3.5L range are hovering around 300HP and 30mpg with favorable conditions.

The word out there is toying around with a V8 in the Acura in RWD/AWD format. I am kind of skeptical that Honda would jump in head first, though. 300HP out of a 2.0-2.5L 4 cylinder is a tall order unless turbo charged to keep linear consumption down. But there is a limit of course.

The idea was to compete with the Lexus LFA and other super cars as a 'next gen' NSX. But the word has gone silent in the last 6 months, so I don't know the latest. With the market conditions, they could change their mind.

They did it again they made a 5.0L N/A with less horsepower faster than a 6.2L N/A Camaro just to shut people up. I own a TL now. I've owned several GT's.
The TL is an incredible car in every aspect...best car I've owned.
But there's no way it'll beat a GT in a drag race. TL's are luxury/performance cars, the GT is a quick off the line toy.
If you wanna drag race, buy an old GT or something...let the TL be what it's supposed to be.

True you may have beat those stock GT's, cause I've blown and went neck and neck against modded Ford Police Interceptors. in my mums stock 03 TL, TL are really torquey and will jump pretty quick :) good race man!

Especially when it's something that is special to you, it doesn't matter what other people think. just remember, you can make any car fast, ANY car, 01 Grand Prix GT/ L67 top swap, 3.5 pulley, vs cam, Build in process, Look out TL's. lol

the gt is a vert which will make it slower.. the tl has 258 hp stock to the GT's 260.. the tl has 233 ft lb of torque vs the GT's 303 and weighs 200 pounds more. explain to me how its faster?

LOL @ you. VTEC is simply variable valve timing - something a ton of cars have today. Sure, Honda was a pioneer.. but VTEC is not a miracle worker. I think you should learn about Honda before you make bold statements about VTEC. It won't help when your opponent simply has much more power.

actually you're wrong. Honda didn't pioneer the first cam lift technology. GM did, although it was a failed project and they eventually abandoned it after they started seeing problems in cars that were produced with the system. Honda took that concept to its motorcycles and saw success, then made their first VTEC system in the '91 NSX in the U.S. In Japan and Europe, VTEC was introduced in 1989 in the B16A in the Integra, Civic, and CRX.
