  • Tremendous, thank you for posting!!

  • The Moody Blues lip synching to a studio recording--still cool to see the "Mod" era

  • beautiful composition of john lodge s and even more beautiful voices harmony.

  • WOW,WOW,WOW, JUST SUPERB.

  • LOVE IT!.

  • this is the coolest video...i love it...

  • Comment removed

  • the vocal harmonies in this one are jaw-dropping, heavenly.

  • very good

  • That is SUCH an underrated song from them.

  • Oh my gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooddd I love the Moody Blues!

  • @moodybluepassions I completely agree with you!! <3

  • Man, I Wish I Lived In England At There Time And The Beatles. :D

  • @RadicalRay100 yes it was a fantastic time lad, groovy...

  • great song

  • I love this video, but I always found it on the completely absurd side of life. They are singing about ethereal and completely obtuse thoughts, while providing orchestral music that had never before been heard...dressed in suits on TV. I doubt if many people caught its true meaning on TV in its day. Some of us did find it from the records, and the numbers kept growing.

  • awesome house of four doors.loved it at 15, still in love at 60.genius moody blues.Happy 65th birthday mr justin hayward (oct 14)!

  • Exquisite and unique sound that takes us on a trip and then brings us back to earth. I will always love the Moody Blues. They were never to be copied.

  • lip syncing house of four doors

  • Maybee stephen king was listening to this when he wrote the dark tower series

  • I loved this song when I was in my teenage years. With incense filling the room, I traveled distant galaxy's and walked through each one of the doors...simply by listening to this song ...and never left the room.

Some of you know what I mean...alas....to be a kid again. But now with a clear mind, some 20 years later...this song is timeless.

  • I must say. Moody blues impacted my life. Being a sensitive guy No one knows how this kind of music couple be friend and impact that no one can muck with. I seen them 5 times more than any other band and I feel i have been blessed. Door are only Open If You See Um!

  • i usedn ton draw princesses with hats like that as a child...what century is it?

  • We need a band like this today~have times changed that much~you bet~timeless?~Thank you for the post!!!~j

    great artwork ~as is Styx(art)~~Moody B's where the best~art and sound~

  • Maaaaan I love that tune, I love The Moody Blues, I use to party and trip to them all the time, talk about deja vu.

  • They are dressed as the same in the album back cover.Great music.Nobody can even touch them today.Great long lost video.WTG whoever put this here.Keep it coming.MOODIES FOREVER..LOL...

    Michael

  • I wish it was house of the Lord instead!

  • I must check my Moody Blues albums to see what label they are on. They were my father's and I would never never pass them on to anyone as I listened to them time and time again on our old Heath Kit Ar 19 as I was growing up.

At age 49 you would think that i would know!

  • @Tull29in the US they were on london [ ithink thats british decca] deram/ threshold /then back on london

  • And they're not in the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" What a joke.

  • @thechessstick Yes, not just a joke, but an outrage and preposterous that they have not yet been inducted. Surely they will soon, I hope. Saw them (Graeme, John and Justin plus backup people and replacements) last week. They still can dish it out magnificently. Graeme announced that he had recently turned 70! Wow.

  • @fbenenati I actually believe that the Rock and Roll "Hall of Fame" takes payola to induct bands and people. I think that "The Moody Blues" have too much integrity to take part in this scam.

  • @thechessstick the fact that the Moddy Blues and Rush are not in the hall of fame makes the whole place a travesty. two of the greatest progressive rock bands with some one of the finest musicians and singers. the people who do the voting don't know DICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you're unfamiliar with the DSS logo label and other moodies releases, there are plenty of photos of the varieties on EBAY website ; you're right 'Childrens Children' was the first of the 'THRESHOLD' label releases although I think it was a deal which meant that the label was still distributed by DERAM / DECCA parent company, as DERAM was a DECCA label really that was a late 60s label for 'progressive' music type pop acts. Like APPLE label still had the EMI parent company for Beatles releases

  • @MoodyGirl67 You're right - I found a great version of RMSS. It has mistakes, so you know it's live, but the clarity is awesome.

I'm still looking for Departure. I saw them perform twice. They sang RMSS both times, but they did not sing Departure.

  • House of Four Doors, Legend of a Mind, Departure, and Ride My See Saw were all on this one album - and they are all great. If anyone has a video of the Moodies singing Departure and Ride My See Saw, I would love to see it!

  • @JSP1996 Not to mention what in MY view are even better than the brilliant tracks you mention (but just cos theyre my personal favourites !) : 'Voices In The Sky' , 'Visions Of Paradise' and 'The Actor'. Amazing songs ; one of my all time favourite albums and I've got a stunning Mono copy from 1968 that has a mustard coloured DSS logo on the white record label instead of the Stereo red one

  • @TheKenfig I have a stereo album, so perhaps it's a lot different from your mono one. The top half is reddish-brown, with "DERAM" in white letters. The bottom half is white, with the songs in black letters. So if I understand you right, the top half of your mono album label is yellow? That's great!

  • @JSP1996 Well yes & no ! The labels over the years have had two main variations for the label 'DERAM'. The first two 'new' Moodies albums DOFP & ISOTLC didn't have the design you mention ; they had a totally white label with 3 huge letters DSS on the top half of the label ; if they were Mono, they were Mustard coloured, if Stereo they were red. The 3rd album OTTOAD first had only the label you have, but mustard for Mono, red for Stereo ; no DSS. I had a Mono OTTOAD when it first came out

  • Incidentally, DSS stands for Deramic Sound System which was something that the label was pushing exclusively for The Moodies releases but they dropped that logo by the 3rd album 'On the Threshold'. Later copies from the 70s and 80s had BOTH designs for the 1st 2 albums (DERAM & DSS) although just DERAM for the 3rd album ; thats why your copy of the 2nd album 'Lost Chord' has a 'DERAM' label ; it might have had either. Sorry to bore you !

  • @TheKenfig You didn’t bore me! On the contrary, you intrigued me so much that for the first time in 15 years, I retrieved all of my Moodies albums to look at them. My copies of DOFP, ISOTLC, and “On the Threshold” are all stereo, and all have the same DERAM design that I mentioned earlier. “Question” and EGBDF are sterreo and have the Threshold swish (reminds me of Nike’s swish). I couldn’t find my “Children’s” album.

  • @JSP1996 Nothing like listening to the Moodies ! I NEVER tire of their classic music as they have such a range of great songs by so many different composers in the band. Well, I looked at your page to see where you are from and I think that maybe all U.S. DERAM releases had them out on the 'DERAM' label and didn't bother with DSS logo, although they are ALL DERAM releases really. In fact UK copies of the first 2 albums have a small boxed DERAM logo at the very bottom of the label AS WELL as DSS

  • @TheKenfig I guess you're from the UK, correct? I think that you're right - DSS did not appear in the U.S. I was in college when I first listened to the Moody Blues, and my three firends who were also avid fans had albums that had either DERAM or Threshold (depending on the album).

  • @JSP1996 Yep, I'm from the other side of the 'pond', Lol. My eldest brother 'brought me up' listening to great music as he is 10 yrs older than me and I was fascinated by the music from very very young ; like 3 / 4 years old. So in 1967 when I was just 4 then, we already had many Beatles records but my bro started to borrow all this 'new' stuff like Pink Floyd, Cream, Jimi Hendrix & The Moody Blues from school friends and I would listen with him at our shared bedroom ! ; good grounding eh ?

  • @TheKenfig My favorite early group was the Beatles (surprise!), then the Moodies, The Who (I saw all four of them in concert in 1975). I became "picky" regarding the other "British Invasion" groups: the Stones, Cream, later Derek & the Dominos. It depended on the songs - I liked some, and didn't like others. Some songs took years for me to like: 'Sgt. Peppers' in 1970; 'Dark Side of the Moon' in the 80's.

  • @JSP1996 Yes my fav group has to be The Beatles as they were something special and influenced my attitudes and personality as they did so many. I love the Who AND the Stones but I like so much too. I like lots of late 60s American music which I own, my favourites being The Byrds of which I have many albums. Then Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane, Capt. Beefheart, S & G, Dylan, CS & Y. I also love Joni Mitchell & Neil Young tho theyre not American of course. Like the Doors, 70s & punk too

  • @JSP1996 The moody blues pick the beatles as a favorite too

  • @spacepatrolman I didn't know that! The Beatles had a huge impact on music - both before and after "Sgt. Peppers"

  • @TheKenfig My taste in music is eclectic: my mp3 has 300 songs, ranging from true classics like the William Tell Overture, to Ray Charles, Motown, Simon & Garfunkel, the 4 Seasons, the Beatles, U2, plus musicals like Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera.

  • @TheKenfig Interestingly, I just found a New York Times article by Barbara Rowes dated November 24, 1974: The title is "A Requiem for the Moody Blues and the days of Future passed". The subtitle is: “They could sell a million records in 12 hours. Then something went wrong.” It was inside one of my albums, and I had forgotten about it. And while I’m typing this, I’m listening to the Moodies.

    Jim

  • @TheKenfig only read deram in the us john lodge sez if it reads redwave knight on the back of days of future past its rare but that was only rare on a 10" british album

  • @spacepatrolman Don't really get your comment. Are you talking about record label design ?. I didn't mention Redwave / Knight did I ?

  • @TheKenfig red wave knight is on the back cover peter knight orchestrated the music redwave is just a made up name for a publishing company

  • I love to come back to this song from time to time and just get lost in the House of Four Doors. I don't mind getting lost in this house. As long as I'm with the Moody Blues I'm safe and sound as a pound. Peace.

  • I remember seeing them in concert when I was young and it was fantastic. Hayward and Edge did great things with music and some of their solo work and work away from the Moody Blues was decent but never of the same caliber.

  • Why arfe they not in the rock Hall of Fame. Who can match this for this era 1967 and how many can speak this spritually.

  • is john's bass not plugged in?

  • @musicislife596193 Sorry..I meant the other way round, Singing is live, instruments are the album

  • Wow! Excellent quality video and the version of this song (or songs) I've never heard before. These are not quite the versions that are on the LP/CD. Where did this version come from? Love it!

  • @dbeatlefreak It appears to be live.

  • @toolongforyoutoread6

Definitely not live. At least, it's not 100% live. There are small parts of the vocals/instruments that are live. It appears to me that they are playing/singing to live mics, but with the studio recording as a very prominent backing track. It is very interesting to me the weaving back and forth from the studio recording to the live pieces. I also like that part 1 and part 2 are presented here as one song.

  • @dbeatlefreak It;s not plugged in. The BBC loonies brought the band into a Tv station, and had them MIME. brilliant thinking BBC. Now someon will tell me how difficult it would have been otherwise. Well you only cheated them and their fans, how much advertising did you get?

  • Absolutly LOVE the moodies! My favourite band of all time!

  • @bizzlemedia I seen um 5 times and know theyh are the greatest underrated band of all time!

  • @bizzlemedia Mine as well.

  • @bizzlemedia MICHAEL TSARION IS THE WORLDS PREMIER CONSPIRACY RESEARCHER/LECTURER/AUTHOR. DR. BILL DEAGLE, LEO ZAGAMI, JORDAN MAXWELL AND ALEXANDRE DUMAS PERE ARE HIGHLY INFORMATIVE AS WELL. P.S. MELTING EUPHORIA IS SIMILAR TO OZRIC TENTACLES AND GONG.

  • In their Splendor......

  • I was in the Navy at the time & their music was unbelievable! I still listen to it

    some 45 years later!!

  • I grew up as a kid listening to the Moody Blues and have all the early albums along with the lyric sheets but I have never had the chance to see them live. I did not know that there were video clips of the early days out there.

Thank you so very much for posting this!

I actually think its better, than Sgt Peppers.

  • The Blues are an awesome band. Concerts, are a life experience.

  • So gIad stumbled upon this site. These videos, and their quality, is Priceless!

    Appreciates MoodiesFan. =)

    THX so much.

  • and also it strikes me that so much of the Best talent is British.

    God I love these guys.

    THX so much.

what does house of 4 doors mean ?

  • I think Spinal Tap took this clip as inspiration for their early years segment of that movie!!!

  • The missing link between the Beatles and early Genesis and Yes.

  • I haven't heard this is so long, the incredible sensitivity shown by these musicians is something that in the last few years musicians in popular music seem unable or unwilling to show. Feel from the heart.

  • Oh, man! Still, what a great band!

  • The Beatles, The Who, the Moody Blues, the Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Easybeats, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, The Standells, The Doors, The Hollies, Hendrix, The Knickerbockers, The Renegades UK, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, etc. All from the 60's. I can't think of any contemporary band that comes close to them.

  • Just so we've all got this straight, this was posted 3 years ago and has 25 pages of comments. I love it! They are the best, no?

  • 1968 was the best year for music...........Moodies, white album, Steppenwolf, procol harum and many others............it all just took off that year. The Moodies were definitely something different..............and wonderful. I remember it like it happened yesterday. I must have listened to this a billion times. Each time like the first...........Moodies 4ever

  • @wolfdavid1 I think you're right--1968 to 1971 were the best years of rock music--it can perhaps be called the "post-psychedelic period." It's amazing how many singer-songwriters and groups did their best work in those years.

  • The Moody Blues and Pink Floyd are the bands I'll always want to see, this world or

    the next.

  • @mick50651 I wish I could have seen Pink Floyd. I've seen the Moody Blues twice, within the past two years. They still play and are as amazing as they were 40 years ago! Oh, and did I mention I am 22?

  • @uzi4u182 good for you ... great taste ... Moodies and the Floyd, 2 excellent head bands... Ive seen Floyd once and Moodies 3 times... The Moody Blues have been called the thinking man's rock band.

  • @uzi4u182 good on you mate for having such good taste!-- still not seen the moodys

and liked them for 30 years !

  • I love a lot of Moodys but this is diabolically suicidal

  • John Lodge was born prior to 1945, Justin Hayward was born in 1946, Lodge I believe about 43 or 44.

  • John Lodge, what a genius and only 16

  • @chocolatcats Lodge was born in 1945.

  • @chocolatcats

What do you mean? If Lodge was born in 1945, wouldn't he have been 22 or 23 when this film was shot?

  • @dbeatlefreak my apology; what ever age he was; they are the best at any age

  • My favorite Moody Blues song ever!!

  • Wow, I feel like I've waited about ten thousand days to see this video! Thanks so much! I've always loved this song and especially the Mellotron.

  • Wonderful to see the Moodies in 1968. The year when I had the good fortune to have my mum buy me their album. I was hooked at once and collected all their songs ever since. Dig the suits to, it is nice to knock the scoffers who nowadays say that they were all on acid and could not dress in those days. Well I never was and these guys are the best!!

    Best wishes,

    Tony.

  • *sigh* They are so amazing......

  • Piper at the gates of Dawn

    Sargent Peppers

In Search of the Lost Chord/

On the Threshold of a Dream

  • Creative beyond their years. STILL ahead of thier time.

  • Unice, this is a timeless masterpiece, they played i China -72 correct me if I`m wrong

  • God bless the Moody Blues...GREAT!!!

  • I have been blesssed to grow old with The Moody Blues and their craft. What an empty space I would had to fill without them as a part of my life.

I have seen most groups one can mention, and there is NO experience like seeing the Moody Blues...My favorites forever!! As a musician myself, what a blessing it must be to be a part of this music history...

I think the greatest group ever.....Hands down!

    Nice post again Moodiesfan!

  • 1 Moody Blues

    2 ELO

    3 Pink Floyd

    4 The Alan Parsons project

    5 Dire Straits

  • Strange. Everything in this video is the studio track except the flute. I think Thomas's backup singing is also live.

Very weird the way this band worked for its live performances.

  • Are these videos all available on a DVD anywhere??? Id buy it right up!

  • I JUST CANT PUT THIS SONG DOWN! It's like a musical hallucinogen addiction I can't write a good enough joke about, or something else.

  • never understood some of these songs what is this about? the ablum from beginning to finish is it 1 long story

  • Effing awesome piece of music. Although not played live, the video is still entertaining!

  • Quite a classic. I haven't heard this one in ages.

  • @Microsloth YOU DON'T FIND GROUPS NOWADAYS WITH THAT KIND OF HARMONY AMONG 4 SINGERS, AND SADLY PROBABLY NEVER WILL AGAIN

  • On a scale of 1 to 10 they were a 15.

  • in '68 i dropped acid for the first time. and listened to this album like a zillion times that nite. i can't begin to tell you how amazing that was. it's not PC to talk about things like that now. but it was a different time, and it was quite innocent if you can believe that. you had to have been there to understand it. but it was the most perfect music to space out on. the moody's have never been as appreciated as they should be.

  • If anyone is not down with the Moodies they need their asses kicked.

  • @SANTORIOBUSTANUT You are wery right about MOOIES, I`v played them 4

Swedish friends, from 12 years and up they are just sold on some tracks

  • @SANTORIOBUSTANUT I can't say it any better. Now, go bust a nut.

  • @SANTORIOBUSTANUT < - - thanks, you have proven yourself to be an idiot! You are the typical machismo fool!

You think you have a right to hurt someone based on your stupid perceptions!

    FUCK YOU CHICANO JERK!

  • @CAS1xtz Your mom lost the best part of you when she went to the john to clean out after that threesome.

  • But you got to love the door opening and sound effect.....this is the way they tried to convey the song.

  • Yes, I love the sound effects!

  • yes we all know that this is a publicity or back then they called it a promo video...

  • you don't like the song because the video is dubbed? All videos are dubbed, they just do a better job of covering it up these days. I thought the song was pretty great.

  • four doors, a passage through time

  • I put all my Moody Blue CD's onto my iTouch. I listen to them at work all the time.

  • Dang they look young in this video!

  • @caldragon7 Young in age...timeless in talent!

    Do Lodgey's teeth look different?

  • The Who "borrowed" this tune for their "Tommy" LP- give it a listen and see!

  • any particular track?

  • The Moody Blues are one of my favorite bands ever! Was My dad's favorite band next to the Ventures.

My Dad has been through these doors many times in the psychedelic 60's.

    A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+

  • They made taking acid a respectable option.....

  • I lived the Moody Blues...Their music brought me away from drugs...not toward..

  • My Top 3 ...

    1. The Moody Blues

    2. The Beatles

    3. Jimi Hendrix

  • @arthurkaliel Good choices but don't forget Pink Floyd

  • @arthurkaliel Wow! Over the Beatles, you sir are indeed a Moodies fan.

    Excellent choices.

    Cheerio.

    JBirdy

  • @arthurkaliel. Beatles are always number one consider these guys got their influence from them.

  • @Boganator4 ...maybe...not really...

  • @arthurkaliel i agree

  • @arthurkaliel What about E.L.O?

  • @arthurkaliel én nem tudnám ezt ilyen határozottan besorolni, én szívesen forgatom őket...

  • @arthurkaliel The Beatles? Srsly?

  • @arthurkaliel ya gotta through "The Who & Led Zep" in there too!!

  • He still keeps time with his leg like that! Saw him in concert in 2008. wow!

  • cool to hear the harpsichord tapes in the Mk 2 Melltoron

  • I totally agree with you Rodrico50, The Moody Blues are the best ever!!!

  • if the moody blues are not in your top three favorites;you need therapy.

  • AWESOME!!

"Lonliness, the face of pilgrims eyes was known

    As the door opened wide"

  • john lodge is cool as shit.

  • Rodrico50, you're so right. He is my favorite MB. I'm biased toward bass players. But anyhow, watch as he looks right into the camera. Are his eyes dialated, & maybe he's slightly high? He just shows such a mysterious expression. What was his basis for writing such epic lyrics? No one but him, I guess.

  • @mfinnster24 It was probably just a reaction to the lights on the camera.

  • This music was so bizzarre then, and its even more bizzarre now, GOD I USED TO SMOKE SO MUCH HERB AND PUT MY HEADPHONES ON AND JUST SPACE OUT!

  • Wow! I did the same thing and there was nothing else better at the time. Now, in my 50's, wish I could go back to that! Sadly, I can't!

  • What year is this ?

  • 1968...from "In Search of the Lost Chord"

  • Thanks!

  • 1968.

  • Outstanding album.

Mike Pinder refers to Leary in When You're a Free Man.. Seventh Sojourn

  • 35 years ago this song lifted my mind and soul without drugs and it still does everytime i hear it again
