Do the math, if you follow the basic rule and fish 30%-35% of your line weight in drag you will rarley ever even fish with 30lbs of drag. Screaming on the deck like that would not fly either. And swap out those graphite reels for some tiagras or accurates if you are serious about landing the fish you hook.

You guys messed up! It is very delicate process to catch a sword fish...Its mouth is really soft, and the hook can rip its mouth open and loose the fish. You can tell you put too much brake! Good fish though, it looked about 400Lbs. I cant beleive you didnt have the right tools when that fish was right by your boat! No excuse for that!

First of all, Swordfish are kept for food by almost ALL swordfisherman. Usually when you catch a sword it is at night, in 750 feet plus. When you catch a pup, and bring it up they almost always die from the pressure change. This is the Circle of life. No matter what anybody thinks..........things will not change as long as swordfish is delicious!!!

I popped it off after about 2.5 hours despite the skilled angler, crew, and the reel's smooth drag. (Felt like a Shimano. If it'd been using a Fin-nor, I would have let them gaff me. Just kidding!)
Even though it got away, I had a good fight, took some photos, have a good story, and great memories.

This should be titled "how not to catch a sword fish" could you imaging being a paying customer on tht boat, I would ask for my money back. How unprofessional can you get? no mistakes? never harness a Shimano TLD, graphite frames can't take it. Organize your cockpit before you leave the dock. No yelling. Lay off the fish until you're ready. Use tackle appropriate for the fish you seek. Don't embarass San Diego fishermen. Just imagine the mess if they would have gaffed it!

what a bunch of fools the title says giant well this fish looks like 100kg and they get alot larger like up to 500kg i caught one at 380kg when i was tuna fishing it took over 3 hours of playing the fish by hand to boat it, it was about 18ft long including the bill,And the most powerful fish out there is a 200kg+ southern bluefin tuna they can rearly smash up your gear which is like 300kg nylon,300kg steel trace and a big f**k off hook,smashed to peices...respect for the ocean and its creatures

Do the math, if you follow the basic rule and fish 30%-35% of your line weight in drag you will rarley ever even fish with 30lbs of drag. You cant hang onto 40lbs with a boat helping you into position? I fish yellowfin tuna from San Diego, whole different game, We dont have anyone to back down for us. Screaming on the deck like that would not fly either. And swap out those graphite reels for some tiagras or accurates if you are serious about landing the fish you hook.

You guys messed up! It is very delicate process to catch a sword fish...Its mouth is really soft, and the hook can rip its mouth open and loose the fish. You can tell you put too much brake! Good fish though, it looked about 400Lbs. I cant beleive you didnt have the right tools when that fish was right by your boat! No excuse for that!

First of all, Swordfish are kept for food by almost ALL swordfisherman. Usually when you catch a sword it is at night, in 750 feet plus. When you catch a pup, and bring it up they almost always die from the pressure change. This is the Circle of life. No matter what anybody thinks..........things will not change as long as swordfish is delicious!!!
