I have a 1953 Kodiak Signature Series in 43#. I have had most of my life. My Uncle used to work for Fred and my whole Family received bows from him when we were kids. I still shoot mine atleast a few times a year. I have shot a fair amount of game with it. I know almost everyone that has bought these have paid over $150.00 for them since 2008.
You cannot be serious! I bought a couple of Bear bows on ebay and was only too glad to pay $150 and $180! How can one guy at a flea market be so lucky. By the way, last year (summer 2010) a guy at a flea market had a beat up Kodiak Hunter 45# and wanted $125 and would not budge when I told him I can go $90.
That's very true! Around 1998 (just before ebay really took off) a guy had a table with around 7 laminated bows that looked very attractive for $20 each, I was about to offer him $100 for all and then luckily, I notice they were all left hand draws. I'm pretty good with restoring, patching and polishing, so now I'm bidding on ebay for Kodiak Hunters with bad arrow rests, and drilled holes. I'm hoping to get one for under $100, doing it this way.
@terminal99 By the way, I forgot to tell you I have a Grizzly and Kodiak Magnum, I'm going after the Kodiak Hunter to finally "slam the lid" on all this Bear bow collecting. It's a real fetish with me since now that I'm 58, I want them now because as a kid, I couldn't afford these growing up in the 1960's.
That is a hell of a deal, and yes, the bear bows do hold their value, go on ebay and have a look, that kodiak magnum will go for a fair chunk of change, im am jealous, i cant believ you are gonna sell them
i bought a kodiak magnum for $200. it had 6 arrows and 2 diff types of arm guards, shooting glove, stringer, and a quiver. looking online i was able to find out that it is a 1967, 68, or 69 model year. it is in perfect condition and shoots well. so these arent really worth alot, but 20 bucks is a steal.
Nice find, I shoot a 58" 50# grizzly for bowfishing and its a great bow, bear bows can be hard to date but I've got mine narrowed down to between '72 and '78... I love it and your not going to be seeing me sell it any time soon.
Recurves dont hold their value, I want one but not too worried since I can jump onto ebay anytime and get one like that for $50 bucks. When you get into the higher poundage that's when they start getting pricey.
@Spywell You don't know the colletable market well. A quick completed auction search on Ebay showed Bear Kodiak recurve bows topping out at $500 with most around $120. A couple were cheap, but these were beat up.
@NeoAndersonn LOL I have this identical Bear recurve bow at 45#'s that I got for $50 bucks locally. It's in awesome shiny condition maybe a little less shiny than the one in this video but I am happy, shoots straight, fast and super quiet. My friend shot it, missed the target the size of a car and put an arrow into a metal shed with it so it definately has some force.
I would just like some higher poundage bows but that would cost $130-200 or more on ebay.
@NeoAndersonn I picked two up, both bear both 45#'s both in great shape, couldn't refuse I love recurve's for small game and target shooting. I always switch between compound and recurve whenever I shoot. These bear's are amazing but they are really small, I like them longer and heavier but they dont fit length wise into my pickup if they are any bigger than the bears lol.
Did you ever sell them on ebay? what did ya get for them? And, How did you ship them?... As you know from my last comments on your other videos, I have no idea on the best way to ship these long & large items.
That was a steal!!! I got my 48 magnum from EBay, mine is 50 pounds, but your seems to be in better shape... I paid $125 USD, and I considered myself lucky, your little 48 new goes for around $350... good luck !

@davisracquet Thanks - It's pretty rare to come across any recurve bows at a good price anymore. It pays to get up early!
