lol my science teacher jsut showed us exactly that today im tryin to figure out if there are other thing i can use to recreate that since i cant exactly get my hands on methanol
@atemme Methanol on a race track has an invisible flame. I had wondered if it created visible light in the dark. Figured it would be blue. The beginning of the combustion process reminds me of the cryogenic rocket engine.
Turn the bottle upside down, prop it up to a stand or something, and you have a pretty awesome rocket... One time we almost broke a light bulb on the ceiling of the lab with one of these. Good times.
good question. The opening of the bottle in this demo looks just like a rocket cone. This is what funnels the expanding gas and makes it leave at high speeds. We have set this bottle on its side and shot the bottle down the hallway as a land rocket.
@routhoula Absolutely, you can see the thrust created by this smalla mount of fuel just by the way the bottle pushes down, you might even be able to channel the exhaust gasses with a more efficient nozzle geometry. your biggest challenge would be produceing a fuel delivery system.
Yeah, we did that in our chemistry class! Then, because our teacher is insane, we did it in physics class too, to show propulsion! If you want to see the video of that it's under my videos.
ITS BUNGIES FLAMING HELMET!!

The slow motion girls sound. When a T-rex hears that sound, he thinks "There's a pretty one in the distance."

because guys can't scream lol i donno but it hurts my ears i agree with you

your title is wrong. It should say methyl alcohol or methanol

i use to do this all the time until the jug melted. All i used was rubbing alcohol.
batterbee2000 2 years ago
I've seen this in real life. It was a bit slower but we used isopropyl

LOL... a piece of the ceiling at the end

It's acting as a pulse jet towards the end. Watch the slow mo part

Its "methyl alcohol" not methanol alcohol. doi.

and that is why methanol injected cars are so freaken fast.

never try this at home but isopropyl alcohol will also work. It will burn more orange and yellow as it is not as pure.

i have (look on my channel) but with a 2 litre bottle if you get the mix just right (i put in 10ml of model car fuel) then they fly literally!

mmm hold it pointing down and see if you can fly

better to lay it on the ground and watch it shoot across the room. But this is demonstrating the concept of the rocket cone too.

Is it too danger to ignite pure methanol?
But it's cool.
EdwardNavu 4 years ago
Liquid methanol would just burn but not explode as you see in the demonstration. You have to let the methanol vaporize first.
gurgy3 4 years ago 2
but iff he had a lid on the bottle or the hole was too small for the energy to escape it would actualy explode big time
