  • I can't tell how high the lowhead dam is cause it's from a heli. But my Uncle got caught in a 3 foot high lowhead dam. Nothing to hard for a 5 year veteran of Kayaking, ya he got caught in the current and died... he wasn't playing he was trying to pass the darn thing.

  • no one can see it on the surface, but underneath that calm looking rapid after the dam, is a circling current that if you get sucked in (Which even some profesional white water rafts get stuck in) Your pretty much dead... they are so amazingly powerful!

  • lowhead dams are not deathtraps, people are just stupid and go play in them. Lowhead dam is as dangerous as a balcony, or a kitchen knife; in wrong hands, stupid things happen.

  • @ZZombyWooff - a balcony represents an obvious danger for people who jump off, kitchen knives are obvious dangers, low head dams ARE deathtraps because they're deceptively dangerous. You don't see them as you're floating down the river, and the deadly hydraulics look deceptively benign.

  • @2011blueman stupidity is deathtrap. Evolution. Stupid people take stupid risks and die, and then they wont pollute the mankind with their genes anymore.

  • These lowhead dams are true deceptive death traps.

  • In Hamilton, OH a FD rescue team training at a low head dam became trapped in the hydraulic and 2 died. They had no business using a paddle raft for that kind of work. Truly sad.
