This is the most common tactic of Scientology. Try to make you feel as if life without Scientology is hopeless. That all of your joys and loves are meaningless if they do not directly lead you to Scientology.

As an athiest I have no interest in christianity or islam but those religions don't worry me like scientology does. Scientology is highly aggressive, both in pursuing its agenda of "clearing the planet" and against anyone who gets in its way. The church of scientology is universally extremist as an organisation, brokering no descent or moderatism among members.

I agree many religions did a lot of damage in the past and I know many do dodgy stuff today too and I oppose that; I don't agree with the Catholics campaigning against condoms in South Africa for instance since this increases the spread of Aids. None of this makes scientology more right or any less deserving of censure. There are extremists in most religions but they are the minority, scientologists are pretty much all extremists because of the way the organisation works.
